How many marriages have you known to last?

I'm just curious, because I know of none.

I'm basically wondering how many couples you know that have remained in their first marriage past the age of say 45?

I should add that none of my friends are married yet, apart from one. We are all in our mid to late 20s.

almost everyone i know. divorce and separation are incredibly rare in the people i know.

My own parents were divorced after 10 yrs of marriage, but my mum and stepdad have now been together for 25 years.

DH's parents were togetehr for 40 years when he died. Me and DH have been together 10 yrs and are still going strong (touch wood!) and DH's brother has been with his wife for 19 years and they are still together and happy.

There are some happy marriages out hthere, although yes - I know a lot of divorcees!

I'm in my 20's so my friends are only just starting to get married but both sets of grandparents stayed in their first marriages til death (though one pair probably should have divorced), as did DH's grandparents. My parents have been together since age 15, married since 24, now in their mid 50's. One Uncle is on his second marriage, the other still on his first (married for 17 years).

DH's family aren't as fortunate, his parents both divorced each other then divorced their partners from second marriages too. I think all three of his aunts have divorced. His two uncles are both in two lon term realtionships, one of which is not married to his OH though because seeing the rest of the family has put him off marriage!

Of my parents friends, I think definately more than half are still in their first marriages

My parents - 40 years
My grandparents - 60+ years until my grandad died
Not one divorce in my family, except for a great aunt I think.

Inlaws are divorced.

All our friends have been married about the same as us which is 10 years.

i can count the number of couples i know that have divorced on one hand...

mil (given that her xh had disappeared and she was remarried to fil 41 years ago...)
dsis first marriage, now remarried.
a friend in our circle who got married at the same time as us about 15 years ago.

i can't think of anyone else. Grin

oh, recently there have been two couples at the school who have split up, but tbh this was news as it doesn't generally happen.

i could name probably 100 marriages that have stood the test of time in people i know. i would probably even count mil and fil in there too tbh, as they've been married for 40 years, even though it was her second marriage.
