Othello syndrome - survivors?

itsamystery · 06/03/2011 15:08

Anyone out there living with or has lived with a DP with Othello Syndrom (sexual jealousy)? I'd be interested to hear thoughts, experiences, stories, outcomes, etc.

Thanks.

OP posts:
Mamaz0n · 06/03/2011 16:34

genuine how? as in she really does wish to know our thoughts on this syndrome?

well i think she has them. That this is yet another silly name in an effort to catagorise every inch of human behaviour.

Underachieving · 06/03/2011 16:37

"I'd be interested to hear thoughts, experiences, stories, outcomes, etc."

That's a seriously bloody unfortunate turn of phrase there if the OP is genuine. I'm not finding it likely.

Longtalljosie · 06/03/2011 16:39

Desdemona had a mobile phone? Shock

SpeedyGonzalez · 06/03/2011 16:53

Ilythia, that syndrome can also be found listed under W, for Williams, Zoe.

OP, why don't you try that other bastion of last-minute online research: Wikipedia. Grin

SpeedyGonzalez · 06/03/2011 16:57

I think the OP will come back under a different name, defending the OP and telling a fake story of surviving Othello Syndrome.

At least, they would have had I not exposed them with a preemptive strike Grin.

UrsulaBouquet · 06/03/2011 16:58

Bear anyone?

HeartSkipsABeat · 06/03/2011 16:59

I'd like to suggest Chandler Bing Syndrome - the affliction which causes the sufferer to fail to deal with emotionally taxing issues, and instead deflects his true feelings by making inappropriate jokes.

IngridBergmann · 06/03/2011 17:01

Well by all means take that assumption and run with it.

If she's not genuine she probably has your replies all copied and pasted onto a blog by now, it happened to me the other day.

squeakytoy · 06/03/2011 17:17

In which case, she will have a whole new range of syndromes to go playing with on other forums. And I guarantee if she does that, there will be someone on there who will have one of them. Grin

SpeedyGonzalez · 06/03/2011 17:19

Gasp! Do you know something we don't, Ingrid? Grin Well if the OP has done so, the worst crime we could accuse her of would be unoriginality. Posting on a web forum isn't so different from posting on a blog, now, is it?

So what happened to you on someone's blog the other day? Pray tell.

IngridBergmann · 06/03/2011 17:23

I'd rather not link but someone posted a series of very unlikely looking OPs on here, with links to their blog, and they were received with zero enthusiasm as you can imagine.

Cue strange person copying an entire thread onto said blog, plus several private messages I'd sent her in good faith, in reply to private messages she had sent me asking for help in how to post.

I didn't realise she was doing this till the next day and asked her to take them down, and she agreed to but didn't. But we sort of reached a truce.

I just don't think it's worth taking the piss out of an OP{ without any evidence that they are taking the piss out of us, iyswim.

just pointless.

Mouseface · 06/03/2011 17:29

Where has the OP gone?

IngridBergmann · 06/03/2011 17:32

Well she's either fucked off because she realised we won't provide her with any assistance, or...she's fucked off because she realised we won't provide her with any assistance.

Depending on her motives for posting, that is.

garlicbutter · 06/03/2011 17:35

Don't know, Mouseface, but if she's off flirting with another forum I want to know about it! Faithless wench!

Mamaz0n · 06/03/2011 17:37

Ingrid - i think that all material on this site is copyright of MNHQ so you should have informed them of the blogger. they may have been able to step in on your behalf.

she sounds a bit mentalist.

ShavingGodfreysPrivates · 06/03/2011 17:38

The way the OP is worded certainly sounds like someone doing research.

It could be that they are a student rather than a journo but if that was the case I would expect them to say so.

If she'he has a DP suffering from this syndrome I would have expected a more 'personalised' post saying how it relates to them. Having said that, it could be genuine.

IngridBergmann · 06/03/2011 17:41

I wondered about that, Mamazon, but journos lift stuff from here 24/7 so I wasn't sure it would apply.

Might be worth a try though. Thanks. Though considering my messages were genuine and apologetic and nice, and she was pointing at them and laughing at the dreadful aggression of MN Hmm with all her friends, I'm not sure if I mind it standing...kind of like wonky feedback on ebay, when anyone sane reading it will know who the nutter is Smile

Mouseface · 06/03/2011 17:47

Grin - you did it see Shaving, like it!

Ingid - has anyone reported this thread if they suspect it's not real/journo?

ShavingGodfreysPrivates · 06/03/2011 17:51

Mouseface

Yes - the moment was lost that night but the next morning I couldn't resist!

I gave full credit to Leningrad in my first 'namechanged' post though Grin

IngridBergmann · 06/03/2011 17:51

Do you mean this one or the one the other day?

that one (several) and her posts on some sensitive threads (including her link which had no relevance) were all reported and then she posted the email from MNHQ as well, on her blog.

She totally got off on the wrong foot.

I still don't know what her game was. she kept on about her seriously ill child in every single message. Obviously if it's real then Jesus, she deserves every sympathy, but the aggression with which she came across was really off putting.

have a look but please don't post on it. I don't want another 300 unsolicited PMs.

lenak · 06/03/2011 18:10

Liking the made up syndromes.

Othello syndrome has been around since the mid-50's though.

UnlikelyAmazonian · 06/03/2011 18:39

Yes I am a journalist.

I know ho0w journalists work.

I recognise a journalist when I bump into one pissed.

hairylights · 06/03/2011 18:43

Aka posessiveness. Never end well. Get rid.

itsamystery · 06/03/2011 19:35

Hello. I'm back. I am not a journalist. I am a mother of two and posted the original question in the hope I could come back to it at a convenient moment to review the helpful responses. Kids are now in bed, hence convenient moment. I am somewhat disappointed that my thread has been hijacked by piss takers. Thanks.

ingridbergmann, genuine thanks to you for at least having some faith in my post.

I have only just today read about the term "Othello Syndrome" on the web and assumed people that had suffered it (either as the person with it or the person living with the person with it) would recognise it by that name.

OP posts:
IngridBergmann · 06/03/2011 19:39

Hiya Smile

Glad you came back. Sorry there was some anarchy on your thread. I think usually an OP gives a bit more background to their question which might be why some people took it the wrong way.

anyway - I'm sorry I don't have any knowledge of this - as far as I know. Do you know someone who has this condition?
