would you / do you have sex with babies/toddlers in the room?

Am new to this board (usually partake in the Education threads but still just lurking everywhere else...), but would really like some thoughts and experiences on this one.

I know curcumstances can be tricky, but how common is it for mummy and daddy to be engaged in a bit of day time frolics while the 8month -> 18 month old is wandering around in the room and around the edge of the bed?

How much do they see/hear and how much do you think is appropriate?

Thanks for your views!

no i dont think a child would be damaged for life if they came in by accident. what i was trying to say ( not very well clearly lol)
is that it can be confusing for a child if they are left running round teh room while mummy and dad just continue

no i know not everyone makes pornstar noises lol

it just shocked me as it seemed like this was seen as ok and would be done regularly...which yes i think would in the long term be concerning.

my kids have come into my room and seenthings that i would prefer them not to have, but if they were seeing it all the time then i would worry

Papillon · 20/10/2005 12:45

Well that is how I got pregnant with no. 2. DD was sitting on the bed - got pissed off at lack of attention and throw a small glass bottle at my forehead. Sex stopped and I had concussion for 3 days. She conceived the child not us.

So MNetters be aware of the dangers to yourself with a toddler in the room!

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 12:58

must have been great sex if you had concussion for 3 days I knwo they recommend (female) orgasm for conceiving , but that is ridiculous

Papillon · 20/10/2005 13:20

As I said she conceived the child not us - if its a boy we are calling him Jesus

frannykenstein · 20/10/2005 19:55

I am glad this thread has turned a bit more balanced. Some people should be more careful about how they phrase their opinions as there have been some very judgemental and offensive posts so far. I am still waiting for Tegan to come back and explain why having sex when your kids are asleep is "sick".

daisy1999 · 20/10/2005 19:58

no no NO - absolutely unacceptable

Tortington · 20/10/2005 20:10

sure no problem - but them i'm catholic and by default a goer.

hatstand · 20/10/2005 20:11

similar-ish story here Papillon (though no concussion) - dd1 was asleep in her cot but we obviously woke her - when I opened my eyes after the deed was done she was standing up. thus dd2 was conceived.

daisy1999 · 20/10/2005 20:13

I find this thread very disturbing and am appalled that anyone would even consider it.

hatstand · 20/10/2005 20:14

even if they are asleep?

daisy1999 · 20/10/2005 20:18

yes fgs surely you could use another room

Tortington · 20/10/2005 20:19

oh its always gone on throughout history its only relatively new views on things thats changed it - where did the poor irish mum and dads f*ck? next to their other 5 kids in their one roomed house am sure

daisy1999 · 20/10/2005 20:21

yes but we have more than one room. What's next - let the kids watch porn? I bet these are the same parents that complain about their kids seeing inappropriate material on soaps.

KristinaM · 20/10/2005 20:26

But if they are a small baby asleep in a cot/crib Daisy? Hardly see how that could be compared to letting a child watch porn!

hatstand · 20/10/2005 20:29

in that particular instance no, we couldn't use another room - we were staying away. I don't personally like the idea if they're awake nor if they're old enough to pretend to be asleep but genuinely don't understand what the problem is if they're asleep. what is it that is problematic?

daisy1999 · 20/10/2005 20:41

people are talking about toddlers not just small babies.

daisy1999 · 20/10/2005 20:51

the worst thing a teenager can imagine is their parents having sex. They will really hate you if they remember seeing you at it!!
sex is between two people (usually), not for an audience, and definately not for your toddler to see.

frannykenstein · 20/10/2005 21:44

Daisy, do you have a lock on your bedroom door? What's to stop your children wandering in? What exactly are you doing that would be so traumatic for your children to see?

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 20/10/2005 21:58

interesting to compare this with the other thread about arguing in front of your children.
i cannot imagine for the life of me what would be damaging about having sex when your baby is asleep or if your toddler accidentally walked in on you engaged in an act of love.
btw i did once witness two people having sex in a park when i was abt 6 yo.
i very clearly remember thinking - hmm, interesting. no post traumatic stress counselling was reqd.

frannykenstein · 20/10/2005 22:00

Oi, are you mumsnetting from hospital hc? You should parp yourself from this thread for the sake of your bp (and take me with you, I think...)

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 20/10/2005 22:05

i am indeed. a marvellous thing called patientline which costs a mere billion pounds per hour. the keyboard is abt the size of a peanut and my fingers are too fat.
am hoping for the chance to say vulva on this thread tho. its been a while.
also, possibly, clitoris.

frannykenstein · 20/10/2005 22:08

Who is it costing a billion pounds an hour? You, or us honest tax payers? I'm not paying taxes so you can sit on your (swollen) behind and type vulva, missy!

frannykenstein · 20/10/2005 22:10

Also, I hope if you are going to type clitoris, that there are no children in the room, awake or asleep, or indeed in a 100 metre radius. Are you near the children's ward? I'm alerting social services.

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 20/10/2005 22:13

keep your tofu on darling - it is a profit making enterprise. you can watch tv and ring all your mates and tell them abt the state of your birth canal for a squillion pence per minute.
btw guess what my bp was today - 175 / 125! everyone got very excited.
god it takes ages to type on this thing. can bearly be bothered to type
clitoris

hatstand · 20/10/2005 22:18

jst being nosey - why are you in hospital - are you ok?
