I'm planning my wedding at the moment, and last night i got round to thinking about what our first dance will be. I haven't got a bloody clue!

I'm after a bit of inspiration, so what was yours?

We didn't have one. I would have been too embarrassed!

What sort of songs do you like?
Are there any songs that remind you of when you and your dp got together?

madmarchscare · 14/10/2005 20:38

Smoochies arent really are thing, we went for Ramones - Baby I love you.

allhallows · 14/10/2005 20:38

my first slow was when i was about 13. All Because of You, Barry White. I ended up with a terrible crush which was not reciprocated. confused lust with love. it was hell.

first dance at wedding is too corny to mention!

newmumhelp · 14/10/2005 20:43

Thats the thing, don't do corny. Was thinking of Al Green actually but it means nothing to us!!

Dp and i like Oasis, Razorlight, Killers and that sort of music. Not into slow ones and i can hardly imagine having our first dance as a married couple to something like that!

Yeah we like it too, but we have had no 'moments' with any song so i'm well and truely stuck. I know its a silly thing to worry about but i couldn't get to sleep last night for thinking about....yes am very very sad

We'd have Crazy Horses at ours. But only because we hate smoochers

singyswife · 14/10/2005 20:51

We had The song from Titanic. I had walked down the aisle to it being played on the piano so it meant something to us. You dont have to have a first dance though, just get straight on with the party!!!!

Van Morrison - Someone like you

Our criteria for choosing was :
Not too long
Not too slow
Not too fast
Not too vomit inducing
Doesn't mention divorce, loosing you, breaking hearts etc.

It wasn't 'our tune' or anything.
In hindsight I wish we'd had 'Dream a Little Dream' as that means more to me.

KBear · 14/10/2005 20:58

Taylor Dayne - I'll always love you.

madmarchscare · 14/10/2005 20:58

Theres no reason why not newmumhelp. I still cant think of any slow songs we like, that one, albeit it not really slow, only means something now because that is what we had IYSWIM.

Just pick one you both love and sod what everyone expects, its your day and all that...

madmarchscare · 14/10/2005 21:00

We had Death in Vegas - Gilrs to walk down the aisle to.

Gem13 · 14/10/2005 21:04

We didn't have a first dance as we had 'afternoon tea' with a pianist! No evening reception for us -we didn't want to force people to pay for hotel accommodation. Most had young children and headed home at 7!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 14/10/2005 21:08

This was ours......................

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh, wait for me, wait for me
I'll be coming home, wait for me

Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?

I need your love,
I oh I need your love
God speed your love to me

Lonely rivers flow to the sea, to the sea
To the open arms of the sea
Lonely rivers sigh, wait for me, wait for me
I'll be coming home, wait for me

Oh, my love, my darling
I've hungered, hungered for your touch
A long, lonely time
And time goes by so slowly
And time can do so much
Are you still mine?

I need your love,
I oh I need your love
God speed your love to me

Doesn't read very well, but it is a lovely song.

skerriesmum · 14/10/2005 21:54

I was at an amazing wedding three years ago where the couple's first dance was that racy one by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin (Je T'aime I think it's called.) It's about sex! But no one will know unless they speak French really well. It's not soppy in the slightest! Good luck!

newmumhelp · 14/10/2005 22:22

Cheers! I do like Robbie Williams Angels, BUT i'm afraid that i'll be the millionth person to have it so thats not going to happen.

Also really love Paul Wellers You do something to me

Really must have a think. The most suggestions the better!

we didn't dh can't dance, so didn't make him that been said he dragged me onto the dance floor at someone elses wedding last weekend during their 1st dance, as it was some rock number and then proceeded to try and do some sort of waltz (which it certainly wasn't) he's going to make a great embarrasing dad in a few years time

tiredkiwi · 15/10/2005 08:57

We had Lou Reed's "Perfect Day". Not too schmaltzy, ok to dance to.

hermykne · 15/10/2005 09:00

whizz
we had van too
its a marvellous night for a moondance
....

shades1 · 15/10/2005 13:58

We had "Always & forever" by heatwave, we actually decided on the Monday when we were getting married on the Friday, as "our song" is there's nothing I won't do by JX - thought it was too dancy, but I'd have much preferred Love will keep us alive by the eagles the words mean a lot to me, my friend had a man is in love by the waterboys which is fantastic and you can do a jig at the end

hermykne · 15/10/2005 14:31

shades1
a man is in love - thats so funny, my sister used to sing this to me but saying hermione is in love - my name obviously, but it kinda sounds like it on the waterboys ablum.
