Cromarty dogger.

I love the shipping forcast.

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 13/09/2008 15:04

Charlotte Green is the newsreader with the sexiest voice.

finknottle · 13/09/2008 15:17

Love PM. Eddie Mair - drool, don't care that he's gay, he's witty & clever & has a sexy voice.
Ed Stourton. Phaw.
The Today programme may have its faults but it's how I start my days & I'd be a right grump without it. Am ex-pat so am doubly blessed.
BBC7 has great programmes too, loved the latest Dorothy L. Sayers.

jeanjeannie · 13/09/2008 22:11

Dogger, Fisher, German Bight

Shipping forecast is marvellous. I'm usually feeding my 3 mth old when the Sailing By music comes on about 12.45am - bliss

Weatherman Thomas Schafernake and sports reporter Cornelius Lycett have the best names.

EachPeachPearMum · 13/09/2008 22:22

I Sailing By so much! I would have it on my Desert Island Discs

jeanjeannie- DD always used to feed at that time too! And then we used to drop off to the World Service after happy days!

I like Eddie Mair and Charlotte Green best.
Sigh- am struggling to listen to Today now Evan 'Fecking' Davis is on there- I can't stand him.

FanjolinaJolly · 13/09/2008 22:25

Oh I love Charlotte Green too.

Her voice is very sexy and melifluous (sp?)

tigana · 13/09/2008 22:26

South Utsire, North Utsire ( or is it north then south?)

Love R4 when it isn't doing a play, a book or the archers

jeanjeannie · 13/09/2008 22:49

Ah, eachpeachpearmum am also struggling with Evan Davis - he sounds so uncomfortable.

R4 plays, they're a disaster

littlebrownmouse · 13/09/2008 23:12

ooh, Eddie Mair, I love him. I like to shut the kids out of the kitchen and cook the tea while listening to his lovely voice.
I have a shipping forcast tea towel....Oooh, I've come over all unecessary at the thought of Finnisterre!
I also rather like that nice sounding man who does the links between programmes on R4. Don't know who he is but he has a lovely deep voice and a strongish accent. mmm

EachPeachPearMum · 13/09/2008 23:14

LOL- JJ- when DD was small- I would always try to listen to the afternoon play, for her to squeal/squawk/yell over the last 2 minutes so I always missed the outcome/ending - I gave up

womblingalong · 13/09/2008 23:19

Noooooo!

I love Evan Davies, but don't really like old Eddie Mair, he sounds snide and full of himself IMO

I would alos have sailing by on my desert island discs. I just love it and the distinctive rhythm of the shipping forecast. DH and I used to drop off to sleep to it when we first got together at Uni.

womblingalong · 13/09/2008 23:21

Charlotte Green has a fab voice, but have you seen what she ooks like?I imagined her as a sexier version of Cherie Lunghi, an uburn haired vamp, and she looks like a frumpy schoolteacher - v disapointing

pooka · 13/09/2008 23:34

Radio 4 plays are hysterical!

DH and I listened to some absolutely incomprehensible radio quiz that had Scotland vs Ireland vs Wales vs England and seemed to involve someone giving a clue and then people just barking out weird responses.

Like "think of extra teatime" "current buns" "not quite but is edible" "cake" "getting warmer, what do you get on cake" "ICING! Icing on the cake" "nearly, but I'm giving you a lot of help" "CHERRY"

Mad. Made me PMSL because reminded me so much of the Mitchell and Webb radio series where they have mock radio progs like "Imagine That" or "Imagine a hat".

Earthymama · 14/09/2008 00:33

Pooka that's the joy of R4,don't go looking at photos, then you can imagine what they look like. My R4 is peopled by glamourous and cool people, (which I think is probably far from true).

I met some of the Archers cast a while ago and when I next listened it was 'my' version that I saw in my mind's eye, not the real people I'd spoken too.

minorbird · 14/09/2008 00:36

I listen to radio 4 plays. I wrote one earlier this year.

edam · 14/09/2008 00:39

wombling, I know, could have knocked me down with a feather! I was not expecting Charlotte Green to look like a suburban librarian.

(Nothing wrong with suburban librarians, btw, just not the image CG's voice conjures up).

Earthymama · 14/09/2008 00:43

minorbird, which one, do tell!!

minorbird · 14/09/2008 00:46

You wont remember it! Twas part of a series about a Leeds takeaway over the decades. I've been commissioned to write a new one. I'm scared though, this is a solo effort!

Earthymama · 14/09/2008 00:57

Was there an Asian family and the son got involved with some shady characters?

minorbird · 14/09/2008 01:11

Oh that was one of the eps, mine was a jamaican family! Week after I think. x

TisaWildLife · 14/09/2008 01:15

I don't have a favourite.

But.

The shipping forecast deserves its own special slot.

If it wasn't for their amazingly good work, I would have been fucked shipwreaked many years ago.

Earthymama · 14/09/2008 01:16

I remember it, well done you. I look forward to hearing your new one do post and let us know when it's on.

But don't include any pics of the actors or you'll spoil our inner visions

Off to bed now, good night x

TisaWildLife · 14/09/2008 01:17

oh arse. shipwrecked

that is why your eyes are confused, not because you are befuddled by my maritime presence but by my misspellingtyping

Tortington · 14/09/2008 01:21
