'I'm sorry I haven't a Clue'. Who should take over from Humph then?

Said on the radio yesterday that they do intend to bring it back.

Who on earth could fill Humph's shoes??

rob bryden - for me he has that innocent charm needed for all the double entendres (sp?!) and worse to work!

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:16

I know Stephen Fry has been mooted, and of course he's a regular... but I don't know, he's too "big" a personality I think. DH and I were saying that David Mitchell would be good, he's got the same brand of sardonic deadpan putdown that Humph had.

Hard to imagine it without Humph

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:17

Hang on, how long have we had "Radio Addicts"!

Carmenere · 10/09/2008 13:18

They said they were likely to have guest presenters each week.

bosch · 10/09/2008 13:18

I know lapin, I may have to renew my mn membership (as it were)!

LargeHadronCollider · 10/09/2008 13:18

Not very long, Lapin. Agree Rob Bryden could be good. Not so sure about David Mitchell.

My first response to the title was no-one,

But Rob Brydon, yes, I could see that working...

PerkinWarbeck · 10/09/2008 13:20

I'm with you, bosch. I think Rob Brydon would be perfect.

But then we would miss out an him as a panellist, and he's so very good (at "one song to the tune of another", in particular).

HuwEdwards · 10/09/2008 13:20

hana, no I think Samantha would have to die with Humph.

bosch · 10/09/2008 13:21

oh, that's such a shame carmenere. I always hate it now when Have I Got News For You isn't presented by Alexander Armstrong...my favourite since thingy was sacked! (Am I allowed to mention tv on here? please don't excommunicate me)

TsarChasm · 10/09/2008 13:21

David Mitchell is a good suggestion. I wondered about Andy Hamilton.

Botbot · 10/09/2008 13:21

It won't be the same - I think they should let it die with Humph. They tried to carry on with Home Truths after John Peel died, and it just didn't work, did it?

BTW, my best claim to fame is that I once got a phone call from Humph - he'd dialled the wrong number!

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:21

Xander Armstrong

Did you all know that there is a Humph Night on BBC4 this Saturday night?

Have I got News for you isn't a good comparison, either, because Angus Deayton is a twerp and not a Great Man.

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:22

Botbot, don't get me started on Home Truths - or tat god awful thing with Fi Glover they commissioned to replace it

TsarChasm · 10/09/2008 13:23

Graeme Garden was implying Samantha would still be on it. I can't imagine it at all with Humph. Home Truths was never the same after John Peel.

Sorry Botbot...I posted virtually the same as you there!

OP posts:
boogeek · 10/09/2008 13:24

Oh I think it should be allowed to die too. It will not be the same. (We went and saw the live touring show just before he died and it was brilliant)

TsarChasm · 10/09/2008 13:26

So you've seen it live boogeek?! Tell us about Samantha or are you sworn to secrecy?

OP posts:
TsarChasm · 10/09/2008 13:27

Agree with you Lapin. I'm not keen on the Fi Glover thing at all.

I migrate to Radio2 on a Saturday nowadays.

Someone had suggested Judi Dench!
