'I'm sorry I haven't a Clue'. Who should take over from Humph then?

Said on the radio yesterday that they do intend to bring it back.

Who on earth could fill Humph's shoes??

Well, apparently she was held up that night - the show's producer kept bringing apologetic notes from her...

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:34

boogeek, us too! At Brighton. Twas FAB (even though we knew all the jokes because DH has pretty much every episode form the last 10 years taped).

Went to 5 recordings as well over the past few year - fantastic!

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:36

TsarChasm, they gave us all kazoos

TsarChasm · 10/09/2008 13:38

I am soo Especially at being given a kazoo. I do like a kazoo

OP posts:
boogeek · 10/09/2008 13:38

Yeah! My DD loves the kazoo.

LapinOnTheEventHorizon · 10/09/2008 13:41

LOL yes, my DS has nicked mine - and can play it better than DH

jeanjeannie · 10/09/2008 13:58

I vote for Alexander Armstrong.....*phworr I see someone else here feels the same!

I could see Rob Brydon working - I'd not thought of him. Although they're both a bit young...maybe it needs a older chap...Leslie Phillips could do a fine 'double entendre' I'm sure H-e-lllooo!

noolia · 10/09/2008 14:33

Oh no, not Rob Brydon! He is all fakey niave annoying. Alexander Armmmmmstrong mmmm, maybe, he has a naughty look in his eye. He is good on HIGNFY. I think I'd rather just listen to repeats though.

TsarChasm · 10/09/2008 19:47

Or even Ben Miller. Nowt wrong with him either.

Not many people come back over to radio though once they've become successful on the tv.

Ben Miller and Rob Brydon are the same person, surely

johnworf · 13/09/2008 10:18

Oh no! Tragedy....can't let it die. I couldn't survive without Mornington Crescent nor Cheddar Gorge. Btw not sure why it wouldn't survive without Samantha as (coughs) she's not real.

I have a few suggestions for 'take over' people; Paul Merton, Nicholas Parsons (only cos I like him on Just a Minute), even Ronnie Corbett?? Would say Angus Deayton but can't stand him. Agree that Rob Brydon just doesn't cut it though. Heard him on Radio 2 filling in for (was it?) Ken Bruce couple of weeks a go. Was ok but find him a one trick pony.

Remember going to watch it being recorded a few years back in Bradford and it was an absolute hoot. The bits they took out were perhaps the best ones

Jux · 13/09/2008 10:52

If Corbett did it I'd never listen again, and I've been listening to ISIHAC since the 80s. You need someone erudite but self-effacing. None of the names mentioned here fit that, and I can't think of anyone either. I think they should have at least one series where they have guests. Paul Merton would be more fun on the panel than in the chair.

Wotsisname Sargeant might be OK.

David Mitchel -yes.
Rob Brydon -better contestant
Angus Deaton -EEEEugh
I thought of an older man the other day but that it's gone

Jux · 13/09/2008 11:09

Sandy Toksvig was mentioned on the ISIHAC forum (don't think so, myself).

Can't see a woman sat in Humph's chair at all. Sandy's good on the panel but wouldn't be much cop as chairman/woman.

David Mitchell is a good canditate I agree. Like John Sargeant but he has gone down in my estimations now he's doing the dancing show (moron telly).

I like the idea of Michael Palin though

johnworf · 13/09/2008 20:48

Clive Anderson????

jeanjeannie · 13/09/2008 21:59

No - definately not a woman, that would be all wrong. Not sure about Sandi - ok on the News Quiz but even then she still feels a little smug.

David Mitchel seems to be walking off with the spoils.

Jux · 14/09/2008 00:23

Not a woman. Clive Anderson is too full of himself. I think Mitchell is a bit full on. Can't stand Palin's voice.

Am toying with the idea of Phill Jupitus... That american comedian from QI might be quite good - he's very dry.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 14/09/2008 01:25

I'm not sure who would do. They never permanently replaced Willy Rushton, did they?
I really don't like Rob Bryden. Needs to be someone who can do put-downs without seeming arrogant and he doesn't quite manage it... David Mitchell ok but is he too young?

johnworf · 16/09/2008 20:42

Having thought about it, Stephen Fry would be a good candidate.

Jux · 17/09/2008 12:10

On another forum, Stephen Fry was mooted, but most seemed to think it would become The Stephen Fry Show.

I think someone pretty obscure would be a good idea. A hitherto unknown talent!
