I dislike the sport & traffic on 5, but I loathe the presenter bullying & "no time to explain anything so just say soundbites" atmosfr on 4.
I switch between them all day long, when dd isnt tantrumming for Planet Rock, anyway.

Agree, best avoided on TV. Head too big for his shoulders, but good and funny and a bit unpredictable and sometimes preening on the radio. An excellent and unreliable mix.

ahundredbiros · 12/09/2008 17:47

Yes Jane G very wry wasn't she. I like her on Woman's Hour though, but haven't heard it for ages.

seeker · 12/09/2008 17:48

Nicky Campbell is inclined to read out my texts - I must have a similar sense of humour

And how can people not like Simon Mayo - he's fab!

twinsetandpearls · 12/09/2008 17:48

mostly 4, sometimes listen to simon mayo on 5 or if there us a big news story I would like to here discussed.

peanutbutterkid · 12/09/2008 17:51

I like all the female presenters on 5, only that Northern Irish guy gets on my nerves (sometimes).

wtf is planet rock
My DAB radio is shite - always cuts out for long periods so I listen on FM
Love radio 4
Even you and yours {old before time emoticon}

ahundredbiros · 12/09/2008 17:54

I got Policywonk on R5 once. I gave her my top tip Seeker!

Yes all women good, but not Derbyshire. Don't like that programme. Don't like the way she speaks very earnestly and emphatically about very uninteresting things.

moonshine · 12/09/2008 17:59

Simon Mayo is my favourite as well! Especially love the Friday film reviews with the 'Doc'. And have come to really like Richard Bacon - loathed him for the first few months but really like his tongue-in-cheekness.

pagwatch · 12/09/2008 18:01

simon mayo and mark kermode are great...

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 12/09/2008 18:03

Another vote for Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode. Can't stand Victoria Derbyshire tho' which is a shame because I am usually in the car when she is on. Did she steal Fi Glovers's hubby?

ahundredbiros · 12/09/2008 18:03

Richard Bacon a fool imo.

Ledodgy · 12/09/2008 18:04

I like LBC.

poppy34 · 12/09/2008 19:32

ledodgy are you a cab driver ? actually I think lbc may have been displaced by talk sport as the station of choice

seeker · 12/09/2008 20:07

Talksport's no fun any more without James Whale and Charlie Wolff. Does anyone remember Tommy....Boyd was it? He of the Happy Hour?

Snaf · 12/09/2008 20:13

Radio 4 all the way.

However, I still mourn the demise of GLR, so feel free to ignore me...

FrazzledFairyFay · 12/09/2008 20:16

Another vote for LBC here, with occasional forays into 5 Live. I don't like R4

foxinsocks · 12/09/2008 20:21

I love 5 live. They have now started calling me for comments (though haven't done anything with them since the summer holiday so it will stop again) because I used to text in so much!

I love the traffic and sport (though it never seems to be traffic for where I am)

BUT

I too cannot bear the smug Nicky Campbell. I like Simon Mayo. Love the review programmes.

So generally I switch between 5 live, Jackie (local radio - v v good for travel which I need) and Virgin/Capital/BBC London.

foxinsocks · 12/09/2008 20:31

and when I listen to Richard Bacon, I feel about 60 and want to tell him off and ask him to talk in logical sentences and not to laugh nervously and actually engage his brain in a discussion - I think he comes across as very young .

ipanemagirl · 13/09/2008 00:01

I love Kermode/Mayo so much.
The RockanRolla review was hysterical! I like it when Mayo gets all grumpy with Kermode too.

pardon · 13/09/2008 20:45

I love 5 - listen to it all day in the week, but turn off between 7 and 10 when it is all sport. Mayo is great and Bacon makes me rofl with his 'texter'.

Spidermama · 19/09/2008 16:38

I switch between them. I like Victoria Derbishire and the news shows on 5. Asma Mire is a bit dull.

I find Sony award winning Simon Mayo very dull and Bacon is a arse.

mummypingu · 14/11/2008 20:24

i do lots of swapping between 4 and 5 too. however since i got a dab i listen a lot to the birdsong channel (bonkers i know but ds2 loves it..and you hear the occasional horse harummphing in the background!)

sometimes i cant bear to listen to john humphries or thought for the day

constancereader · 14/11/2008 20:31

I am strangely addicted to the Today programme, despite finding the interviewers almost totally irritating. I don't know why I put myself through it each morning. Quite like Simon Mayo, esp when Mark Kermode is on.
I turn off 5 the minute I hear Peter Allen, I can't stand him. He is the most biased presenter I have heard on the radio, even when I agree with him it pisses me off.

duckyfuzz · 14/11/2008 20:35

usually 4 in the mornings, 5 when I leave work early to do school run, 4 in the evenings

wrinklytum · 14/11/2008 20:39

I'M a R4 girl I'm afraid, though YAY and that poncey prog with Melvin Bragg does my head in.The Archers I love and hate in equal measures.Adore Newsquiz and JAM.Pine for ISAHAC.Afternoon plays dire. Some of the comedy a bit hit and miss.I love it when I hear a prog that sounds as if it will be dullsville but actually turns out to be fascinating.I wake to Today prog and normally sleep when I hear "Sailing By".I also enjoy WH and like JG,when I get chance to listen. Also like the book prog with Mariella Frostrup.Jeez,I'm a bit sad aren't I?DP always changes to R2 if he is washing-upMust get out more.......
