Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have liked to hear more of Pip's and Stella's wedding vows, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Several people on the previous thread, and probably the spoilers thread, have rhymed Vince with mince, so credit to all of you! As I start this thread, we don't know what's going to happen to Vince, and it's looking as if Sunday night is going to last all week, or a good chunk of it. Ah well. We have to put up with this kind of thing every few years. I cling to my belief that the SWs aren't going to kill off another of Elizabeth's partners in a horrific accident - but of course they could be toying with us!

Josh has returned from Patagonia sounding strangely changed by his time abroad. Hmm (Angus Imrie is presumably too busy, or perhaps fed up with the limited storylines given to Josh up to now, so the part has been re-cast.)

Will the Brookfield inheritance row start up again now? I do hope so. Josh has been very badly short-changed by his parents' decision to leave the farm to Pip (and Stella). Surely they could have taken the same approach as Pat and Tony and involved both children (with separate provision for Ben, who's not interested in a farming career)?

Over to you!

So Vince is conscious and with it enough to worry - but they don’t know what’s wrong with him… I mean, surely Elizabeth could have told us that he has three broken ribs and a gash down to the femur, for starters?
And they will have said “There’s been some internal bleeding but we think it’s stopped, we’re doing a scan to look for X and Y…” (or whatever).
It’s really off the way the script is keeping us on tenterhooks about his condition, when we know the cause of it already!

And still no mention of his DDs.

He and Elizabeth don't formally live together, do they? It might be his daughters count as next of kin, and that's why no one is telling Elizabeth anything.

I suppose this whole storyline has been set up to push Elizabeth over the edge and force the trustees to hand over to Freddie. If there's any justice in the world he will tell Lily he can't do it without her and they will run the place together.

Loving that idea very much

Mulledjuice · 22/10/2026 19:20

of course they had to shoehorn bloody Joy in this week. I was suprised it needed a separate storyline, though. Isn't she a qualified loss adjuster?

I thought she would accompany Lizzie to the hospital, to interpret all the medical terminology. Obviously, learnt when she was a nurse back in the day.

Good point. Though I’m not sure the SWs have thought of this or Elizabeth would have been saying things like: “No one will tell me anything because we’re not married,” They (and Elizabeth) seem to have forgotten Vince’s daughters and his mum.

sorrynotathome · 23/10/2026 06:57

Harrison’s accent seemed to go all around the North in the chat with Zainab.

I thought that. Elizabeth has no rights.

Ginmonkeyagain · 23/10/2026 07:46

I did love all the wailing - they won't tell us what is wrong with him. Well a tree fell on him so I am guessing broken bones and internal crush injuries.

or for Lily to run the thing herself (with Harrison chipping in) while Freddie holds the fort at Casey Meats, prompting sibling rivalry as the trustees look past Freddie again

TeenToTwenties · 23/10/2026 08:25

If Freddie looks after Casey Meats well it will at least prove he can take over Lower Loxley.

Poor Lily must be so scared her Mum will drop again - having a loved one with debilitating depression is and enough, let alone when it means you are left with responsibilities you aren't ready for.

CarlaH · 23/10/2026 08:26

I can't believe this nonsense. Elizabeth saying they have no idea what's wrong! As mentioned upthread no mention of his daughters or his mother being at the hospital. If they want to ramp up tension they really need to do better.

Presumably they just can't attract the quality of scriptwriters.

JanFebAndOnwards · 23/10/2026 10:01

Yes if the issue had been that she has no formal right to know, I kinda think she’d have mentioned that, plus “so I’ll have to wait until Beth and (married daughter) get here”.
Not that either of them have been living in Outer Mongolia, afaik…

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 23/10/2026 10:44

The Mincedaughters are Steph(anie) and Beth(any).

Madcats · 23/10/2026 11:21

Recollections may vary, but I seem to remember that it was Kenton, then Russ, who kept Lower Loxley afloat.

I absolutely refuse to believe that Elizabeth is running LL with just an army of volunteer tour guides and a couple of catering staff on the payroll. As mentioned upthread, there are too many ventures going on there.

Her accountant/Lily needs to get on the blower to a Loss Assessor to handle conversations with the Loss Adjuster. Did it sound as if Lizzie thought she was underinsured, or was that just Lizzie on the verge of a nervous breakdown?

Well at least there is a fighting chance to Friday’s episode will be taking place on…Friday.

I guess there is insurance and insurance.

Insurance to the buildings is one thing (and I wonder if there is a 'must be maintained' clause that could be an issue?)

Then insurance for immediate loss of business is quite another (which is something Bridge Farm didn't have).

Then there is the loss of business because people don't dare book with uncertainty as to when things will be fixed / they were a regular but find somewhere else to go in the meantime and don't return. I can see that could lead to a drop in takings.

Totally agree! BTW, love your name - J Trollope?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/10/2026 12:26

I did feel sorry for the yes, I know - imaginary people who were told at next to no notice that they couldn't have their wedding at LL. It must happen, but what on earth would you do in those circumstances?

It happened to the daughter of a friend for completely different reasons. They had a hog roast and a disco at the rugby club and said it was better than the original would have been.

EBearhug · 23/10/2026 12:34

If it's just the orangery, they will have options of outside caterers, marquee, the barn when it's not being used for Fallon's things. Don't they have a BCP at all? I know Elizabeth isn't thinking about any of it just now, but I don't think it's all doomed yet.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 23/10/2026 12:40

Didn't the Mincemother die?

@CaptainMyCaptain , the marquee or village hall weddings are great. I've been to some great ones.

Gladtimeslady · 23/10/2026 13:18

A relative's wedding was cancelled at the last minute - in their case because the Queen Mother died. (It's complicated.)

Some of the suppliers involved - caterers, florists, etc - had already spent money on supplies so negotiating with them for a later date was not straightforward.

Fortunately I wasn't involved in any of that. But I was decidedly miffed by the cancellation. As it was going to be a very smart wedding I had treated myself to an outfit and hat I couldn't really afford. When the wedding finally took place three months later the weather was completely different and my lovely outfit would have looked ridiculous. I never did get to wear it and eventually sold it at a very considerable loss. I've never felt the same about the Queen Mother since.

If only there were a hefty stately home nearby* (with a Great Hall, Dining Room (remodelled from 2 earlier rooms), smoking room, a restaurant, a bridal suite……

They might need to hire in some food trucks if the main kitchen is out of bounds, but it is all very doable with proper planning. Whatever happened to Ian’s pizza van, BTW. Is it just parked in The Bull’s carpark, gathering dust.

*LL is modelled on Hanbury Hall NT

sorrynotathome · 23/10/2026 16:04

I love Hanbury Hall. Just FYI the Orangery is very much a separate building...

LaMarschallin · 23/10/2026 19:19

Ooh!
I thought Vince was going to die of a PE while Lizzie was out getting her tea and that mysterious biscuit, a Penguin.
Poor Vince. Lizzie will go mad that they told him without her being there.
