Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

Thank God Chelsea has survived! But for Elizabeth to lose another partner to a freak accident..... Will they really do that?!

muddyford · 19/10/2026 19:24

That was better than last night. Though anything would better than the saccharine word salads in lieu of proper vows that Stella and Pip drooled out (were they even legal?). Hope there is an air ambulance available. But all too reminiscent of late DH's cardiac arrest three years before he died, doing CPR in the garden and telling him help was coming.

Trivium4all · 19/10/2026 19:26

Possibly Ben will now have an opportunity to be heroic?

Indeed - that’s what I was thinking as a reason why Vince might survive. Kudos to to the actor playing Chelsea - that was a very believable bit of acting. Josh on the other hand …

I hope Vince makes it.

Sidebeforeself · 19/10/2026 19:27

@muddyford So sorry to hear that. We forget that every drama probably is a real life story for someone.

Raera · 19/10/2026 19:40

Good work Chelsea actress.
Other than her, a bit meh?

Madcats · 19/10/2026 19:45

They made a big thing about having Stella and Pip switch to driving a tractor with a big lifty/scoopy thing on the front, didn’t they? There is still scope for David to mince Vince before the week is out.

Welcome to new Josh, with a Kiwi(?) girlfriend.

Hercisback · 19/10/2026 19:50

George and a chainsaw will save the day.

Chelsea actress was brilliant. Vince was also really good at being stoic whilst injured. Accurately acted imo.

Darker · 19/10/2026 19:51

Yes to the tractor! A pretend unicorn would be no use at all in this scenario.

BeaLola · 19/10/2026 19:56

I wonder who the tree belonged to… could anyone be sued for poor tree management?

Perhaps it will be a shambolic ill conceived scriptwriter story that Emma and Edward had pollared it earlier in the year but not enough ???

Hendiadys · 19/10/2026 20:18

From the (relatively) little we heard of New Josh, he sounded worryingly like Tom. To my ear, anyway.

I didn’t realise it was new Josh! I thought he sounded exactly the same. But I have never been a huge Josh fan so perhaps I just zoned out..

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 19/10/2026 20:42

Chelsea will be Mrs Josh Archer. I knew that before the episode.

Oh dear god, if Grundys are faced with yet another failure in their attempts at pulling themselves out of their unskilled destiny I swear that will be it for me with TA!

On Vince, I think he won’t die because Chelsea and Josh are going to be the heroes of the hour keeping him alive until help arrives. I certainly hope so anyway.

Apart from the fact that I like how Chelsea has turned out and don’t want her to be traumatised by seeing him die, what’d be the point in Josh being there if he’s not going to do anything very useful anyway?

Hercisback · 19/10/2026 21:00

Josh had a phone and he was very good on the phone to Ruth. Relatively calm and told her what needed to happen.

BeardieWeirdie · 19/10/2026 21:05

Anyone else amazed that Ruth deigned to phone Josh back?
“Oh it’s only Josh, it can’t be important, I’ll call him tomorrow” would have been in character.

BeatriceBatchelor · 19/10/2026 21:06

Oh no - not new Josh sounding right out of RADA!

echt · 19/10/2026 21:10

I liked the the Chelsea and Vince dialogue - very well done.

MissKittyCat · 19/10/2026 21:43

I wonder - while Vince is recovering from his injuries, Freddie steps in to run Casey Meats, therefore proving his ability to run Lower Loxley...

slughater · 19/10/2026 21:51

and Chelsea discovers her vocation as a paramedic

I’m so sorry about your DH Flowers

TottersBlankly · 19/10/2026 22:12

Do people still ‘ship’ people? 👀

Anyway, thank God for that! I was at an evening class between 7 and 9pm and usually keep my phone in my bag. But by 8.20 I was almost delirious with anxiety about Chelsea so as soon as the tutor started moving around the class I scrabbled for this thread - just to check she was alive.

I like NewJosh! And he and Chelsea sounded wonderfully natural together …

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/10/2026 11:21

Thanks, it was there. A bit underwhelming, but then so was the episode. I don't really want it strung out all week. I wonder if we'll start tonight in the Brookfield kitchen with everybody eating flapjacks and discussing Chelsea and Vince just escaping death. (Utterly ludicrous that Chelsea didn't have her kit with her, as has already been said, btw.)

Almost as ludicrous as Vince announcing he’d not had a drop of alcohol all wedding so was able to drive Chelsea. He wouldn’t have even had to be a designated driver as his partner lives at the wedding venue!

TottersBlankly · 19/10/2026 22:20

Also appreciated the hasty re-write (after the SW presumably read last night’s thread) inserting a mention of Toby into the script.

Still don’t understand all the awestruck praise for Elizabeth. She runs a well established, luxury wedding venue. She has staff - presumably trained professionals - to do everything. She wasn’t polishing silver and whisking cream herself. For 200 people.

LillianGish · 19/10/2026 22:28

Lots of potential for heroism now from wedding guests - Ben the nurse, Azra the doctor, Ed and Em to clear the road with some tree surgery (and the aid of that wedding tractor), Harrison seems to be taking charge, Joy will no doubt have some hitherto unrevealed expertise that will save the day. There must be some reason why Eddie and Clarrie stayed home, I just can’t work out what it is yet…It does appear that the wedding night will be lasting all week.
