Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

If they kill off Chelsea I'll stop listening. Stupid storyline.

Fully agree.

Sidebeforeself · 18/10/2026 20:42

As Pam would say “ Is. That. It?!”

NoctilucaMalefica · 18/10/2026 20:54

I cannot bear them. It’s like Pip has multiplied. The smugness, the bitchiness of Pip, her snide passive aggressive ‘oh they would have to stop and help someone wouldn’t they?’ comment shows how ghastly she is.

echt · 18/10/2026 21:08

They had better not ded Chelsea. Or else.

<You have to imagine some Les Dawson matriarch, grim-faced and with arms folded under a formidable bosom>

i don’t think they’d dumped it but it blown off - they didn’t sound like they were fly tipping just securing the turkeys in the shed

Thank you! Eddie certainly wouldn't dump a roof in the road. It would be an enormous chunk and anyway he wouldn't do it. He cares about Ambridge.

BeardieWeirdie · 18/10/2026 21:16

I hate to find fault in the plot (ahem) but surely the mobile hairdresser would have her kit with her? And there’s no way in hell that miss fancy pants Lizzie Pargetter wouldn’t have a hairdryer, straighteners and posh serums on her dressing table upstairs.

Darker · 18/10/2026 21:48

Well! None of my predictions came true.
Pfft.

slughater · 18/10/2026 21:55

very underwhelming
all we can hope is that their are some repercussions which somehow tie all the red herrings together

but SO MANY missed opportunities

LillianGish · 18/10/2026 22:06

So the reason the wedding could not take place at Brookfield was because it would have been too easy for Chelsea to nip back to the bungalow to pick up her stuff. If Vince is deaded would that speed up Freddie’s inheritance or would he step in to run things at the abattoir? I can’t think of any point in killing Chelsea after developing her into such a great character and especially when there are so many other characters waiting to be killed off.

What a load of old toot. Pah.

true

BeatriceBatchelor · 18/10/2026 22:58

Oh the vows were excruituating.

I feel cheated by that episode.

And I know we have to give the SWs some leeway but ... a hurricane?!

InADilemma26 · 18/10/2026 23:13

This episode gave me flashbacks to my own first (doomed) marriage - he was a farmer, we had to fit the wedding in between harvest and ploughing, so chose 10th October 1987, it rained all day and then we were on honeymoon in Devon during the Great Storm. It only lasted a year before he went back to his mum and we were divorced before our second anniversary. Nobody we knew was squished by a falling tree, admittedly, but so many parallels…

Hope Chelsea survives, it’d be a waste of her horse box conversion otherwise, but sorry Vince, not fussed about you so much.

Hendiadys · 18/10/2026 23:20

What in the name of God were the weird whinnying noises the WFL was making in the scene with Chelsea right at the start?

I'd like Vince to be mince but sadly I fear he'll just be lightly bruised.

JudyCoolibar · 18/10/2026 23:21

If Vince is deaded, maybe Elizabeth will have another breakdown and Freddie will step magnificently into the breach, keeping both the abattoir and LL running. Inheritance issue solved at a stroke.

Ha ha - I've just listened again and see what you mean!

And I laughed at the ending. Again.

There was a hurricane in 1987 but it wasn't forecast in the way this one was . In fact we were assured it wasn't going to happen.l by Michael Fish no less. It was a rare event and I've experienced nothing like it since.

muddyford · 19/10/2026 08:03

Perhaps the shock will jolt Chelsea's adenoids so she'll speak normally and not as if she has a mouthful of phlegm.

ExitPursuedByABare · 19/10/2026 08:58

Well that was a massive damp squib. Went to bed, got snug with my neck brace and spaniel, switched on, almost fell asleep with the hair preparations, open mouthed eeuuugghh at the vows, wondered how many turkeys you can fit in Eddie’s van and then underwhelmed by whatever tragic occurrence took place. Don’t really want either Vince or Chelsy dedded. What a wasted opportunity.

Darker · 19/10/2026 09:04

It’s all so much DRAMA.

Stella’s vows were lovely… but I found it hard to believe they applied to Pip. Better suited to Cleo.

LillianGish · 19/10/2026 09:33

I hope this wedding drama isn't going to be one of those days that last all week like the flood.

accidentalmillionaire · 19/10/2026 10:04

Don’t they dare do anything to Chelsea. Or Vince for that matter. After those weird gulping sounds from Pip tonight (worse than usual) it’s her that deserves a dedding

I just don't buy them as a couple. Nor Pip as a lesbian (or bi), really: I don't recall any indications before she suddenly declared an interest in Stella.
