Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

It’s all so much DRAMA.

Stella’s vows were lovely… but I found it hard to believe they applied to Pip. Better suited to Cleo.

Better suited to cleo 😄 😂

Madcats · 19/10/2026 10:55

I'm bracing myself for the repeat at 2pm. I hadn't considered that the "wedding day" might last all week. I'd high hopes that the pair of them would be off on honeymoon for a couple of weeks.

They can't dead Chelsea (I'm not overly bothered about Vince).
There are so many "retired" older actors who might well appreciate a valedictory.

Deading Jill and Leonard would have solved the issue of what to do about a widower (is he in Brookfield or in his pad in Borchester?)
Aunty Chris must surely have run out of money for the upkeep of her flat in The Laurels by now
As for Oliver, it is ridiculous that he is still running Grey Gables and his death would mean that the Grundy's either inherit a house they can't afford to keep or they would be made homeless (though I suppose some/all of the other Grundys could all move in)
Jim has been inter railing(?) since June (and inheriting some/all of the house might enable Alistair to retire)

Then we have Shula and Johnnie, both of whom left about 4 years ago.

Ambridge is a village of two extremes. Residents either die young (often in close proximity to David) or they live well into their 90s and beyond. See also dogs.

I hope this wedding drama isn't going to be one of those days that last all week like the flood.

I was thinking the same while I was walking the dogs. As a dramatic device it doesn't work when it's supposed to be 'real' time, more or less. If I tune i. this evening and the ambulance or funeral directors ' van has just turned up I'll be livid!

I've heard the trailer and I think it was on the Today programme Saturday about 57.30 mins in. @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g but there was a different one too.

Edited

Thanks, it was there. A bit underwhelming, but then so was the episode. I don't really want it strung out all week. I wonder if we'll start tonight in the Brookfield kitchen with everybody eating flapjacks and discussing Chelsea and Vince just escaping death. (Utterly ludicrous that Chelsea didn't have her kit with her, as has already been said, btw.)

Don’t they dare do anything to Chelsea. Or Vince for that matter. After those weird gulping sounds from Pip tonight (worse than usual) it’s her that deserves a dedding

I so agree. Have I ever mentioned that I can't stand Pip?

I ❤Chelsea.

If anyone was not listening to the Today programme, you might want to listen to a few minutes starting at about 7:44.

FullOfLemons · 19/10/2026 11:41

Back in 2005, there was a tornado in Birmingham with wind speeds reaching over 100 mph.

Rest of country was unaffected !

Unusual weather events happen in the Midlands.

BeardieWeirdie · 19/10/2026 11:46

The only woman Pip loves is Pip.
Are we meant to forget the way she threw herself at a series of unsuitable lads for years and strung along Rex?

Sidebeforeself · 19/10/2026 12:01

Haven’t listened yet but I can’t stand Chelsea.

Darker · 19/10/2026 12:04

Pip and Toby were an odd couple. that whole time that they continued living together after they had split up.. I had hoped Toby would be at the wedding.

I thought Pip and Rex would have been good together.

But generally… I wouldn’t pick Pip as relationship material.

TottersBlankly · 19/10/2026 12:24

The SW really squandered their opportunity. I too had hoped to hear Toby at the wedding, and just a word or two from Rosie!

And what they did to Claire and Eddie is unspeakable. Will, Ed and Emma would have bought Clarrie a new frock - and they made her drag turkeys through a storm in it? Why? Money was probably expended on dry cleaning Eddie’s One Good Suit. And the two of them completely separated from the celebrations - to what purpose? What new thing were we supposed to understand from that story?

Sickening and infuriating.

I find her delivery just as irritating as Pip's, just in a different way. So many...noises.

Thanks. Gosh, unrecognisable! I thought she spoke very well. £1.5m, the cost of the new studio, must be a tiny fraction of the BBC's budget. As Ms R says, paying the production team's travel costs to wherever they end up recording would wipe that out in no time at all. She also mentioned something alluded to in the earlier article about this linked upthread - if I understand correctly, there was going to be a tie up with Birmingham City University, which will be based in the same site, to offer their media students placements and training in radio/podcast production. That must now be looking a lot less likely.

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . I was only half-listening at the time (was reading) but noted the time so I could listen again. She sounds completely different to the character.
If you go on Youtube and search for 'The Archers trailer' , they have some recent clips from the 75 anniversary tour.
I found them when looking for the trailer for yesterday's episode before I searched Today for the actual trailer.

@TottersBlankly , it will all come out in the wash, as it were.
I couldn't believe that Eddie would have missed the slap-up Orangery meal even though it was a buffet.
Strange that Toby wasn't there, he is Rosie's father and it was a big deal for her.

TottersBlankly · 19/10/2026 15:23

I guess the Grundys would lose a good proportion of their annual income if the turkeys all died of turkey pneumonia.

But it was just so unnecessarily cruel to Clarrie and Eddie - when we might instead have had a re-union of the Fairbrethren reflecting on how, despite neither of them owning a farm, they’re each now the father / stepfather of a farming heiress. (They wouldn’t say ‘an Archer farming heiress’ - but it’s in my head.)

I wonder who the tree belonged to… could anyone be sued for poor tree management?

Only if it can be shown that they knew it was in a condition where it might fall. Otherwise it's just one of those things.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 19/10/2026 16:03

It's an 'act of God'.

Madcats · 19/10/2026 16:22

Yes, it is a shame about Toby and an opportunity missed to have his dad involved in a catastrophic accident. Toby and Robin could have been hit by the tree driving down from Stratford in a hurry. [Anthony Head died a few months ago, so it would make sense to have Toby and Rex inherit the business and his assets].

Toby could have been wracked with guilt at his momentary lapse in concentration whilst driving...Rex could do something less dull...Pip could ponder why she didn't marry Toby...Stella could find herself a new soulmate...

Where is Ben these days?

There is a tree in Ambridge which has it in for people: it killed Mark Hebden, tried to kill Ed and Emma, and now this!

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 19/10/2026 17:56

Show Pip the tree please.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 19/10/2026 18:02

I aim to please. Can the tree do so too. After those nauseating vows, Stella can go as well.

Darker · 19/10/2026 19:08

JOSH!

Darker · 19/10/2026 19:15

I think we’ve been teleported to Casualty.

macaroon8 · 19/10/2026 19:17

Crikey that was traumatic. I think Chelsea needs a bafta, or what ever the radio thing is
