Anyone else hate the stupid “facts” that Ellie is coming out with on Vernon Kay’s show?

I’m not sure why it irritates me so much. Don’t get me started on Sara Cox’s new show

I used to listen to Virgin breakfast a lot but I can only manage about 15 minutes these days. Chris Evans and his holier than thou lifestyle just start to grate on me. Often I switch over to Chris Moyles for the contrast. He may well have lost a load of weight but he’s not remotely interested in all that healthy living from what I can tell. Don’t get me wrong, I exercise 4-5 times a week and am not remotely overweight but I don’t need a healthy lifestyle rammed down my neck every morning. I also think his show has gone right downhill since Vassos left. In the same vein as trying to promote Ellie on R2 as some kind of personality, Evans is doing the same with 2 Aussie women on his show. I find both of them deadly dull and have to switch off once he tries to get them involved.

I agree with all your points actually. I miss Liza and Shaun K needs a decent slot. When we rule the world, eh?

I moved away from R2 about two months ago and apart from Tony Blackburn occasionally on Saturday, I've not been back.

Vernon and Ellie really got on my tits with their stupid giggling, plus voice notes, the register and so on. Far too much waffle and inane yapping.

Now listen to BB6 music or Virgin and sometimes Radio Caroline.

I'll go back when Trevor Nelson returns for his show but that's it.

@Hotafternoon if you like Trevor Nelson (as do I) you might like DJ Spoony who is currently filling in on Trevor’s afternoon slot.

Sara was great at drive time but really has not had a great start to breakfast.
Cannot stand Vernon. God knows how Ellie got the job.
Don't like Jeremy.
Spoony is fab, also love Trev, though do not like the music they play.

Cannot stand OJ, Jason Manford, Ellie Taylor... drive time is a shocker now.
Miss Paul, Liza, Simon (and obv the mighty TW). I only turn over to R2 now when avoiding adverts on Radio X.

I listen to Craig Charles on 6 between 1 and 4 currently. I didn't mind Spoony but do prefer Trev.

I've enjoyed the past werk as we've had Gary Davies and Mark Goodnier instead of Sara and Vernon. Can't stand their inane style and yapping.
When will they announce a permanent Drivetime host? At least I can look forward to a month of Gary.

I sent an email to Radio 2 when 'uncle Joel ' was presenting the afternoon show. Dear God he sounded like he was talking to preschoolers not adults who might be driving home from work. I had to turn off! They don't seem to care or not enough people are telling them they're tuning to a different station. I can't listen on Saturday because I loath Romesh and hate with a passion that Sally Traffic woman who has the whole day shift 😭 Today I listened to Greatest Hits 80s (that tells you my age), zoned out the ads and thoroughly enjoyed singing along with tunes from my teenage years.

Think I am going to give Radio 6 a try after your post because I agree with everything else you have written!

I miss Liza as well. Her music choice was fantastically diverse. You could never predict what she was going to play next.

I posted a similar thread a few weeks ago. I have really tried with Sara on the breakfast show, but the show just irritates me beyond belief! I really miss Scott Mills, he had settled into the show and had just the right amount of chat and music. Having Garry Davies back on has been music to my ears!!

I too miss Liza and Sean and hardly bother with radio 2. Someone decided that as speech podcasts with comedians were popular (possibly lockdown related) they should obviously just employ comedians on music radio.

Does anyone have alternative recommendations as I have gaps to fill

radio 6 Saturday and Sunday Morning Radcliffe and Maconie (heard to refer to the now defunct radio 2) absolute radio drive time Bush and Richie Absolute radio breakfast - Dave Berry can be a bit OTT but the stand in Ben Burrell is very good and on next week

Sara Cox is dreadful in the mornings. I now switch off and listen to BBC sounds. I might try 6 music.

I don't like Vernon and his stupid rabbiting on.
It's been great this past week as neither have been on. Gary and Mark Goodier are so much better presenters.
Romesh on Saturday's is awful. I now spend a lot of time listening to BBc sounds.
I can't stand commercial radio, so will definitely give 6 music a go.

I like Spoony and Trevor Nelson. Shaun Keaveny is good too. Bob Harris is back this afternoon which is great as I have missed him.

I can’t get on with Sara in the mornings either, I’ve really tried but it’s all too jarring, loved her at teatime though. I need a gentle start to my mornings!

Why did Liza leave radio 2?

I think they might have been planning Trevor Nelson for drive time which is why it's not been filled yet.

Radio 2 has hardly ever been a part of my life. What I read in this thread makes me feel I should not start to listen in.

We have been major radio 2 fans for years. It was on alllll the time as default we enjoyed the saturday line up from morning till end and i really liked scott mills when he took over from zoe. I found zoe so luvvy everyone sickly sweet nice. Scott had an edge to him and it made me laugh.
Ive actually never been a SC fan her style is too silly daft for me.

Ive not listened to the breakfast show since she took over and were switched to a mix of commercial stations and when i drive home i catch up on the jeremy vine show via sounds.

According to the latest RAJAR figures for the period 6 April to 28 June 2026 (when did SC take over) Radio 2 Breakfast: Reached 6.37 million listeners, showing a 3% increase year-on-year.

Overall radio 2 figures were down just 2%

Edit SC took over breakfast since 6th july so will need to find the next report next quarter to see if any overall impact or change... id say the listening numbers will be down when we next get the figures

I was glad when Liza Tarbuck left as I didn't like her presenting style or the music she played.

I haven't listened on a Saturday morning since Graham Norton left. Can't stand Romesh or Claudia before him. Too much waffling on and interviewing people I'd rarely heard of.
