Anyone else hate the stupid “facts” that Ellie is coming out with on Vernon Kay’s show?

I’m not sure why it irritates me so much. Don’t get me started on Sara Cox’s new show

Ken left because his contract (they're all on 2/3 year contracts) was coming to an end and the BBC wouldn't talk about renewing it, so he had no choice but to leave. The BBC does treat people very shabbily sometimes (CF Shaun Keaveny leaving his breakfast show).

I did always enjoy him being short with Ritchie tho haha.
I'm sure I heard Ritchie in for Trevor one week? But had noticed he hasn't been around much.

I do enjoy listening to people who are actual experienced DJs much more than TV presenters who are doing radio, I have to say. They haven't nurtured enough talent and here we are.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/10/2026 16:07

Oh my. I didn't realise Ritchie had been quietly dropped 😮. But then I barely listen to R2 any more as it's impossible without running in to Gary Davies, so not much chance of me noticing anything much.

And they spent so long promoting Ritchie too. I wonder what the story is there?

@hockeyfun Another one that writes Chris Evan's. It's EVERYWHERE! It's on here, it's on Facebook - why does this happen? Autocorrect I imagine.

@ShowOfHands Gary Davies and Mark Goodier weren't on the radio in the 70s. They both started out local radio at the very end of the decade.

@LocalHobo I agree with everything you've just said.

Radio 2 is full of people fooling around and showing off, mostly those with poor interview skills and lack of DJ experience (though they may be seasoned presenters it is not the same). I read somewhere today that when Angela Scanlon starts on the drive time show, the station will have just under 70% of excitable, silly presenting content during daytime. I

Well I didn't say they were on the radio in the 70s. I said they had "70s style efforts" and your two sentences directly contradict each other. GD started on the radio at the end of the 70s. He's the same age as my retired parents and consequently, grew up with 70s radio. And it shows. I don't like his style in the slightest. He's old fashioned and I find him irritating.

wtf is the "Woo Gary Davis!" thing about. I switch off whenever he's on.

It's ironic I think after all this time.

Anjelika · 07/10/2026 10:56

I’m sure it used to be “Ooh Gary Davies” and for some reason it’s been changed to “Woo”. As for “Woo Wednesday”, WTAF is that all about? At the moment I can only bear to
listen to Trevor & Jo Whiley.

RaraRachael · 07/10/2026 11:04

I like Gary Davies because he's from my youth.

If Vernon says "On the tools once more I'll scream. A phrase never heard IRL.

2026onwardsandup · 07/10/2026 11:43

I hadn’t heard that Angela Scanlon is taking over the drive time show . I actually do like her , but not sure I will on radio as fear she may be a bit too much . I like Sara Cox too but couldn’t really listen to her in that slot either . I hate the zany , look at me I’m mad and the silly tricks / wind ups .
I would rather listen to radio 4 in the mornings . I have to physically turn over if Vernon Kay or Paddy Mc Guinness come on .

I hated Chris Evan’s on radio 2 with a passion . So clearly don’t like that genre at all - but did watch him on TFI Friday - like the music , interviews but not the silly wind ups .

probably just old and am not the target age group I suspect .I miss Liza Tarbuck and Graham Norton . I liked Claudia too.

Now I will listen to Jo Whiley and I also like Rylan - but not his music . I quite like Romesh too but again not his music .
I like Gary Davies and had hoped he would get the drive time slot .

Edited

I've only heard Woo Gary Davies, I wasn't listening in the 80s. I saw something on Instagram where someone said they only listen to one show in the day and listen to the others if it's one of two 60-something blokes with bus passes covering.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 07/10/2026 18:33

I miss Steve Wright.

indigorising · 07/10/2026 22:50

And I wish the corporate hashtag wasn’t ’Radio 2 family.’ 🤢 I could tolerate ‘community’.

What does this on the tools stuff actually mean? What does the register mean? Why does his producer put up with him calling her daft names? I've lost the plot with Vernon, I don't know who he's aiming at.

accidentalmillionaire · 10/10/2026 16:54

Am I the only person whose ears hurt when I hear Gary Davies’ squeaky voice?

SleepingisanArt · 10/10/2026 17:38

I was a teen in the 80s so listened to Gary Davies when he was on Radio 1 (along with Steve Wright, Bruno Brookes, Mike Read, Simon Bates, 'Kid'Jensen, Simon Mayo, Dave Lee Travis et al). I still like Gary and am always pleased when he's sitting in for someone else! I don't feel Radio 2 is aimed at me anymore and I don't know which BBC station is so when I station hop I go to Greatest Hits 80s as I can sing along whilst getting on with my day.

I don't understand why the BBC love Romesh so much, don't find him funny and I can't stand his drivel with that 'Sally Traffic'. He appears to be the face of the BBC appearing in all the 'what has the BBC ever done for me?' adverts.. Well Romesh they pay you a huge salary but are currently driving me into the arms of the competition! Sorry - that was a bit of a rant!

LindorDoubleChoc · 11/10/2026 20:47

Sorry @SleepingisanArt - how can you feel Radio 2 is not for you any more when Gary Davies is on every single day?

Try engaging with R2 if you cannot stand him! It's impossible. He crops up every where.

LindorDoubleChoc · 11/10/2026 20:49

And Romesh is on once a week (if that), regular slot, easy to avoid.

Perhaps on the radio, yes, but every time you switch the TV on up he pops!

I was decorating yesterday afternoon and had Greatest Hits Radio on. It was seriously good and I even started thinking about signing up for the no-ads version! This would have been between about 2.30 and 5.30pm.

PrancingPanda · 11/10/2026 22:24

I like Ritchie - am I alone there? I didn't know he'd gone 🙁
I'd have liked OJ for teatime though
I like Trevor Nelson but I do miss Spoony's dulcet tones. Hope he sits in when Trev's on his holidays 😍

Doobiesista · 12/10/2026 07:01

Richie hasn't gone. He's just been away. His show is still in the schedule andhes still on their socials etc

ForAmberPoster · 13/10/2026 20:35

I thought they had Josh widdicomb lined up to take over on drive time after strictly finished

I'd never have listened again if that had happened. Not sure if I'll like Angela Scanlon.

I miss Steve Wright.

I miss Paul O'Grady and Brian Mathew on sounds of the 60s. He was already in advanced middle age by that stage of the 60s and his presenting style was almost ancient BBC announcer era but it WAS SO different to what you get now. Not better not worse. Just a change

RaraRachael · 14/10/2026 12:52

I loved Paul O'Grady on a Sunday. We'd listen to the first part while we were cooking dinner then the second part when we were eating.

Of course the BBC came up with the great idea that he'd have to share his show month about with (I think) Rob Becket and that was the end of it.

Why would you take a popular presenter doing a great show and half his air time? Madness.

Yes, and then Rob Beckett was often off because of his TV and touring commitments and THEN left the job after not very long any way.

I don't for one second believe there is a single person in the country who prefers the current R2 schedule to how it was 3 to 5 years ago.

PangolinPan · 14/10/2026 23:16

I listen in the morning and then the afternoon and had to switch off both shows as I can't stand the stupid sounds quiz on Sara's show, nor the pub quiz on drive time. I do miss Sara's drive time show with totally teavoted and the random games. Why do we need games/quizzes anyway! I went over to Magic Musicals for a bit!
