Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to administer Bert's mucus medicine, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5538836-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

There's a fair amount of stuff going on at the moment but I don't feel inspired to say anything more about any of it for now. Over to you - I hope you all have more enthusiasm than I do!

Huh? Jolene has form for falling to pieces completely unless she has A Man to tell her what to do. (Then she foments nasty fights and unpleasantness with the man, but since he is Kenton it's hard to blame her.)

I quite like Chelsea these days, adenoids and all.

Non-Germans/Austrians seem to have a surprisingly limited idea of what sausages can go with. Just sayin'.

Things sausages go with: bread/buns, with mustard or other sauces. Onions. Salads, including potato salad and other salads, e.g. Greek salad. Sauerkraut. Potatoes in whatever form, including mash, chips, jacket, salad, etc. etc. Pasta, though generally cut up and mixed with other stuff. They don't really go with ice cream or other puddingy items, although I'm sure someone has made sausage-flavour ice cream by now.

That was a nice bit of strength of character from Chelsea this evening: It's down to me and nobody else. She is her mother's daughter!

Just what I was about to post. Someone taking responsibility and not blaming it on others.

Martyn would probably be getting his own back about being spelled wrong nine times out of ten. I remember Lynda getting downright stroppy even by her standards when Susan insisted all the staff in the shop had to wear nylon tabards with their names on the front so people could call them by name, and Lynda's was marked "Linda"; Lynda asked who that was because she had never met her.

Oh god, I'm having flashbacks to
(...goes and checks spelling...)
Ruairi-gate

I only know how any of these imaginary people spell their names if I have seen them in writing somewhere, and until radio dramas come with subtitles, that somewhere is almost certainly going to be here. So if I spell someone's name wrong, it will be someone else's fault 😂

I don't understand why Chelsea left a load of expensive kit in her hairdressing bag in the lorry that was parked right outside her house overnight. I mean, the literal purpose of the bag is to keep all the portable stuff together, and make it easy to carry around. A previously-knackered old horsebox is not the place to keep all your tools! I had palpitations a couple of weeks ago when the postie hid a parcel containing my dog clippers, two of my favourite scissors, and a couple of blades so well that it took me about 10 minutes to find it. Poor Chelsea, she didn't really deserve to learn this lesson the hard way!

Since sausage flavour ice-cream has come up (not a sentence I ever imagined typing out) - my dog gets a small amount of vanilla ice-cream sometimes on a day out. As the ice-cream usually gets scooped off someone else's cone, we tend to put it in the small plastic container that I bring his posh M&S cocktail sausages in. So presumably the ice-cream ends up being sausage and madagascan vanilla flavour. He doesn't mind, as long as it's proper ice-cream and not that dairy-free dog friendly muck 😂

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 05/08/2026 23:56

@PuggyPuggyPuggy , Lynda used an anagram of her name as a pseudonym - Dylan Nells. Also, she just isn't a Linda. Martyn Gibson isn't a Martin either.

Seeing as you mentioned it, there was more to the misspellings of Ruairi than there is to a name like Tracy or Lilian, which is why some of us minded.
Had the misspelling been Rory or Ruairidh, I might have commented, but if you read multiple bad spellings (e.g. Ruarhii) it looks like taking the p*ss.
Some of us have names that aren't 'English' and have had abuse about them.

Most of the characters are listed on BBC Radio 4 - The Archers - Characters. If you want to avoid seeing photos of the actors, the cast is published in the Spoilers thread, The Archers spoilers thread #12: Can't wait for 7.02pm? Join us here! | Mumsnet (link takes you to the page showing the cast for June 14 to 19).

Agreed! Sweet potatoes have their place, but I'm not keen on them replacing ordinary mash. Sausages and salad is just wrong. Do they not even have a packet of frozen peas?

I would like to defend sausage and salad.

A friend invited me for lunch one day and served salad, sausage, baguette and some wine.

It was delicious, and to my mind, rather sophisticated!

TherapistInATabard · 06/08/2026 11:33

Lynda used an anagram of her name as a pseudonym - Dylan Nells.

That was my MN username for a bit, then Susan referred to herself and a ‘therapist in a tabard’ and I was instantly inspired to name change 😂

There is a slightly out-of-date list of the more usual mis-spellings of Archers characters at https://ambridgereporter.org.uk/Spellings_of_Proper_Names.html

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 06/08/2026 15:05

@TherapistInATabard , I don't blame you. it was a memorable line.

I did use a similarly memorable line as a username but managed to log myself out and had to think of a new one. Current username is from 'and everyone else who knows me' from local radio song requests.

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , there's a nicknames list (not Archers Nicknames, Phrases and Abbreviations) where I, under previous usernames, was mentioned a few times.

WitcheryDivine · 06/08/2026 21:41

urgh, the reduced movements were a bit of an unfun storyline, but at least we had George’s squashed hand to cheer us up.

Do you think we’re supposed to read something into the fact that he hurt himself twice in one day? Clumsiness?

I dunno. I was shouting at the radio that actually, it was down to the thief or thieves.

TottersBlankly · 07/08/2026 06:00

Is Poppy the thief?

Tree surgeons can't afford to be clumsy. They don't tend to last long in the job if they are.

George isn't a tree surgeon is he?

George isn't a tree surgeon is he?

No. I think he's helped out a couple of times, but nearly dropped a branch on Ed?

How long does his driving ban last, and does it include tractors on private land?

muddyford · 07/08/2026 08:28

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/08/2026 08:09

George isn't a tree surgeon is he?

Sorry, my mistake. Sounded like Ed but got totally confused there.

BeatriceBatchelor · 07/08/2026 10:42

It did sound like Ed and was confusing the way he was saying "come on, George!"

ExitPursuedByABare · 07/08/2026 12:54

It was, until I realised he was talking to himself. An affectation I also adopt when I’ve fallen over.

See, i say things like, "c'mon legs," "keep going, feet," which will confuse others less, though probably still confirm my insanity.

Eastie77Returns · 07/08/2026 13:43

Brad and Amber didn't sleep together did they? I hope there is no re-run of the Will/Ed/George paternity drama. The comment about the nurse mistakening him for the father made me wonder.

Why is Eddie so concerned about this supposed feud between George and Kiera. It's quite normal for siblings to not get on but in any case Kiera quite obviously does care and worry about her brother. It seemed a bit out of the blue, similar to the sudden revelation that Poppy does not like Amber.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 07/08/2026 14:13

What's happening with Brad and Amber?

Is something brewing?

muddyford · 07/08/2026 14:44

I was a bit concerned when Brad said, smugly, that the midwife had presumed he was the father...

A few months ago they were declaring undying love for one another. Then George was hit on the head and Amber discovered she was pregnant. She decided to stick with George.

ExOptimist · 07/08/2026 15:45

There will always be an undercurrent with Amber and Brad. Depending on what the actors are doing in about 5 years time, I reckon they'll get together.

JanFebAndOnwards · 07/08/2026 15:56

Brad wasn’t smug he was embarrassed but with a slight hint of “Could we ever go there again or even refer to those conversations?”

I think that situation will blow up or at least start to bubble around the time of the birth.
we can all imagine what use G will be as a father, Amber will start regretting her choices.
