Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

I would expect to pay to get into an agricultural show or Highland games. I woukd not expect to pat to get into fete, and if I did, a nominal £1 a head, donations welcome.

ExOptimist · 26/07/2026 12:34

The fete in my village has had an entry fee for decades, it's £3 now. You can watch the procession of floats for free but to get onto the field where all the stalls are you have to pay.

What about Harrison and Hannah? Their names go together well and they are both from The North. As we know, thats all that it takes for a successful marriage.

They both hate George too!

Good point! C’mon SW’s…

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 26/07/2026 15:42

Please don't. Hannah might hate George but like pigs but she deserves better.

I assumed Fallons enthusiastic support during Harrison’s speech (and his speech) was part of the performance they have been putting on, for each other as well as everyone else. I’d imagine the penny dropped for Fallon as soon as she closed her mouth.

Edited

I agree. I didn’t find it that far fetched. I’ve got a friend who went on one last holiday with her ex husband. The end of the marriage was a mutual agreement and they wanted to give the kids a good week before they had to tell them.

I’m not sure I could stick a brave face on it for one last time but people do.

Jolene and Kenton were awful tonight.

I think Jolene was more upset that Fallon stayed at Lynda’s than anything else.

I agree. The interference and second-guessing Fallon and Harrison's motives were out of order.

Imagine the racket they'll make when Fallon tells them she's leaving to work at Lower Locksley. It'll be audible from outer space.

BeatriceBatchelor · 26/07/2026 23:10

My heart sank when Jolene said "maybe this doesn't have to be the end"

echt · 26/07/2026 23:11

Same here. And all the persuasion will be done in a pirate-stylee voice for added annoyance.

JanFebAndOnwards · 27/07/2026 00:17

I can’t remember, did everyone know about the miscarriage in the end? And certainly Jolene and Kenton knew about Harrison wanting a child? Strange that they in no way referred to those issues tonight. Anyone who’s been through the child bearing (or not) years knows those are massive issues for any relationship.

ExOptimist · 27/07/2026 00:32

If your forty something daughter's taken the massive decision to end her marriage, why on earth would you try to persuade her to get back with her husband? Apart from your own selfish upset of course. I expect Fallon knew Jolene would be like that so that's why she stayed at Lynda's.

Brefugee · 27/07/2026 06:12

The Kenton actor's delivery is so bad. I can barely stand to listen to him.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/07/2026 07:14

Kenton's behaviour in rushing round to threaten Harrison was beyond ridiculous. If I was Fallon I would be furious at his interference. No wonder she didn't want to stay there.

Gonners · 27/07/2026 07:25

Not to mention the fact that Harrison is a policeman, and probably reasonably physically fit ... as well as being about 30 years younger than Kenton. They're probably about equal in the stupidity stakes, though.

DeanElderberry · 27/07/2026 09:48

I dunno, a few decent gentlemen horsewhipping cads and bounders would be an excellent assertion of proper standards.

Trouble is, we're spoiled for choice when it comes to rotters, but Tony, Jakob and Robert would be kept very busy. I suppose they could start training the kids.

WitcheryDivine · 27/07/2026 11:45

I really enjoyed Kenton going round to tear a strip off Harrison! Nice to see the SW remember his history and he had Harrison bang to rights with making the whole split much more drawn out than it had to be, to be fair. And it was in character for him both to rush round and then swiftly to devolve into “poor bloke he’s so upset”.

No parent wants their child to divorce and in mild defence of Jolene this was out of the blue for her. She needs to stop now though.

I know we’re all waiting for Freddie and Chelsea to get together but what about a Freddie and Fallon partnership in the short term? She could help him move towards seeing himself as an adult.

Darker · 27/07/2026 12:00

Kenton seemed to assume it was Harrison’s ‘fault’ which was extremely presumptive of him. Fallon had already said it hadn’t been working for a long time.
I think both F & H are pretty devastated. They do love each other but are not on the same page. They are doing the right thing.

Darker · 27/07/2026 12:02

It was weird that Fallon was the one to move out - but I presume that was to highlight her decision to steer away from her mum.

I’m hoping this is the start of great things for Fallon.

TottersBlankly · 27/07/2026 12:10

I can only imagine the SW was high on something when they wrote yesterday’s episode. Utterly appalling. Surely mature adults don’t behave as Jolene and Kenton did? So excited about Fallon and Harrison going away for the night? So stricken and ridiculous when she gave them the news? Didn’t stop for one second to reflect on why Fallon had preferred to go to Ambridge Hall than to stay with them?

The whole thing was gross.

TottersBlankly · 27/07/2026 12:13

So anyway - she now seems first in the queue for any vacant houseboat!

Darker · 27/07/2026 12:26

If they own the house they might have to sell.

I can definitely see Fallon on a houseboat.

That would be a substantial age difference.
