Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Surely I speak for the whole thread in my reaction to tonight’s episode?

Harrison can live on the boat

Hopefully he will return "up north" never to be heard of again.
I bet the SW will have him stay though, although why anyone who has no ties at all to a small village where their ex wife lives would remain living there is beyond me.

Yes indeed, x1000.

One last night together is ominous!

Oh no! Just a clean break please!

Gonners · 24/07/2026 20:08

I assume Harrison is based in Felpersham or Borchester or somewhere like that. But it would make sense for him to apply for a transfer to wherever it was that he was viewed as such a marvellous colleague, never to be heard of (or mentioned) again.

One last night together is ominous!

Fallon is going to end up (if I may put it like that) pregnant. That's really creepy, though, one last night.

Gonners · 24/07/2026 20:55

Another unwanted pregnancy would be jumping the shark. I assume Fallon has the brains to have had a new IUD fitted ... if "fitted" is the correct word? I nearly wrote "installed". 😆

muddyford · 24/07/2026 21:15

What does "jumping the shark" mean, please?

Google is your friend. "Jump the shark" is an idiom used to describe when a creative work or a show reaches a point of unrecoverable decline, marked by an outlandish, ridiculous, or desperate stunt.

Thank you. Beautifully explained. Now I understand what you meant about Fallon getting pregnant again.

JanFebAndOnwards · 24/07/2026 22:14

I thought tonight was sad but very credible and well acted.
But I like Harrison.

not sure what will happen to him (occasional appearances re rural crime, “mebbe”?) but Fallon n Chris is now a big step closer.

BeatriceBatchelor · 24/07/2026 22:32

One last night? Oh ick!

Fallon's going to have her work cut out. Elizabeth is so high handed.

..this phrase was coined after an episode of Happy Days where Fonzie literally ski jumped over a shark.

Same here.

Agapornis · 24/07/2026 23:33

I also like Harrison, but I'm sad for Fallon that her status has been reduced to non-childbearer. (I'm of the same age and taking an extended dating break as most men seem to be looking for a womb & shared finances, no thanks.)

It would be quite fun if he occasionally appeared just to arrest Clive, Ruairi, George and/or Monty.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 25/07/2026 00:05

I don't think it has. She doesn't want children. She has a new job to look forward to. It's OK to not want to have children or to want to have them.

Whatifitallgoesright · 25/07/2026 02:00

Please god I can't stand any more of Tracey being such a martyr for charmless Bert the ungrateful old codger. I do sometimes feel sorry for him when his bewilderment and vulnerability are shoved clumsily centre stage but frankly I'd rather slap him across the face with a wet fish. Possibly frozen.

BeatriceBatchelor · 25/07/2026 05:58

Please god I can't stand any more of Tracey being such a martyr for charmless Bert the ungrateful old codger.

Me neither. Just let him move in with Susan and give thanks to be shut of him whilst knowing he's safe.

I like Harrison when he's not with Fallon. Is he going to stick around? Don't want him moping after Fallon like Chris mopes around Alice. Speaking of Chris, is this an opportunity for him and Fallon?

Nos4r2 · 25/07/2026 06:39

I can't understand one minute Harrison and Fallon are all lovely dovey and she is whooping at his speech and shouting "I love you!), then the next they are splitting up. It didn't make sense to me.
Not saying this hasn't been coming for ages and I think its Fallon thats gone off the boil, so to speak.
I hope Harrison finds someone who he has at least 2 kids with, because Fallon was very unfair when she told him, after they had been married a few years that she didn't want kids, no matter how Harrison felt about it. Oh and why should Harrison live on the barge and not Fallon.

JoelenesParrot · 25/07/2026 07:56

I do agree @Nos4r2! The ‘I love yous’ were incongruous given what came later. That bit didn’t fit. Having said that, they have had such a bad week sniping at each other, I’m grateful the SWs have finally to decided to call it a day. It would be very dull if Fallon discovers after ‘one last night’ that she is pregnant. Three Ambridge pregnancies- at least two of them unexpected- feels like overkill.

BeatriceBatchelor · 25/07/2026 07:59

Is it the old adage "if you love someone, set them free"?

Wonder what will happen to Woodbine Cottage.

Mumblechum0 · 25/07/2026 08:04

I agree that the conversation was unrealistically brief after a relatively long relationship but it is a 13 minutes episode.

i do think it is realistic however, to both love someone and also know that the relationship has run its course.

i think it was quite well written.

and yes, Tracey, just enjoy being Bert free for a while!

JanFebAndOnwards · 25/07/2026 08:20

Yes it would def be too much in every way if Fallon found herself pregnant in a couple of weeks.

TottersBlankly · 25/07/2026 08:55

Woodbine Cottage?

Assuming (everything crossed!) Harrison slopes off back undercover (having announced to the world that that’s what he does 🙄) or is encouraged to focus on rural crime outside Ambridge - and Fallon insists on buying him out, even though he’ll say she should just have the whole house - I guess Jolene and the Archer clan will rally round to ensure he’s paid off, so she can remain there.

Unless Elizabeth offers her a roof somewhere on the LL estate?
