Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

That's it! Did we in fact hear from him once or twice? I doubt he was actually French.

Wasn't he fake French? Ridiculous accent when doing Lillian's do

Gonners · 11/02/2026 18:54

There's a bloke in the village who lives in an absolutely stunning black van. It has a full-size bed on a platform at the front with seating and a table underneath, a small shower/loo, cupboard space, a kitchenette. The roof pushes up for headspace and the cab area is entirely separate. It's all immaculate and surprisingly cosy and the whole thing's about the size of an ambulance. He's youngish (maybe early 40s) and when we first had a chat he said he was just sick of insecure rentals. He parks anywhere legal, everyone knows him and nobody from The Authorities bothers him. He does casual work to keep afloat - no benefits. I'm quite envious.

<on edit ... this is what I meant to say before I got carried away!> I can't imagine it working as a mobile hair salon, though! Water would be the problem.

LaMarschallin · 11/02/2026 19:17

Was that George and Lilian at the end?

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/02/2026 19:18

Who answered the door? It wasn't Jazzer was it?

Also, I lost my DAB signal in the middle. Did Amber ever shut up and listen to George? It was very annoying.

I listened to it again and the person knocking was saying "Lilian I know you are there". I think in the context of the episode it must have been George, sounding a bit posher than usual.

Jazzer was separately opening his door for a delivery of his Lager I think. Very confusing!

It's hard enough to get decent/consistent warm water in an actual hair salon!

Thanks, @Topofthecliffs
That's what I thought I heard but wasn't sure.

No she didn't and yes, it really was.

I actually felt sorry for George, briefly! Amber was being so irritating.

I didn't understand who answered the door, either.

TeenToTwenties · 11/02/2026 19:36

I thought he was at Tracey's. I'm assuming he has remembered jazzer (who found him?) and thinks was him. So it won't have been him, despite him being cagey on the night. Jazzer might hit in anger, but not sneak up on someone imo.

FiveShelties · 11/02/2026 19:37

I thought it was Lillian who answered the door to George.

TeenToTwenties · 11/02/2026 19:42

Just listened again. Yes definitely Lillian not Tracey's. I must have stopped concentrating.

It wasn't Jazzer's voice answering the door to George. Jazzer was expecting a delivery of lager but the frantic knocking on the door was juxtaposed with a different door opening answered by, apparently, Lilian.

MorningCoffeePlease · 11/02/2026 19:56

Amber sounded very panicky tonight talking over George and trying to distract him - does she suspect her dad?

She knows something and was very keen to put the blame on Markie's mate.

Gonners · 11/02/2026 20:16

It was definitely Lillian, which I assume means that it wasn't her who did it. I mean, she is less than 100% sane and was probably drunk, but she would have needed to stand on a ladder and would probably have fallen off.

MorningCoffeePlease · 11/02/2026 20:21

Pity Chelsea's not in France, she could have fun with chevaux/cheveux.

And she could just be sensible and buy a Citroen 2CV (chevaux, cheveux ... sorry!)

echt · 11/02/2026 20:27

I've just re-wound it. Definitely George, though when he said: Can I come in?, his accent slipped. Yes, it was Lillian.

What on earth was Amber up to? Or the SWs to be more precise. She was badgering George and deserved being told to keep quiet. Is this to show him being angry again? The whole premise, his behaviour the night before, was over-egged. As for her coming to his counselling - the very thought.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/02/2026 20:37

Brefugee · 11/02/2026 10:34

am confused...

My comment was a reply to the post before, which ended "then it could be like the Sherlock Holmes story Silver Blaze!" That would be another bleedin' 'omage, and it was Sean O'Connor who thought he was really clever for knowing some old literature to homage about. And he, thank goodness, is gone.

Sorry it confused you!

I only knew it was Lilian answering the door to George because the spoiler for the day said "Jazzer’s got the bit between his teeth, and Lilian has a rude shock." and Lilian hadn't appeared in the episode until then.

Rude shock is right: how mannerless to hammer on someone's door and bellow threats through it.

Sinittaadancers · 11/02/2026 20:40

I didn’t think it was George - you wouldn’t go from banging the door down and saying ‘you can’t hide from me’ to calmly asking to come in. But I don’t dint know who it was

Gonners · 11/02/2026 20:41

So am I right to assume that we can now take Lil off the list of suspects? Does anybody even care any more?

Eastie77Returns · 11/02/2026 21:05

I’m beyond caring but I assume Amber thinks it was Brad and she is covering up for him by misdirecting towards Markie. Surely he would have an alibi for New Years Eve (Markie that is)? I don’t think there is any concrete evidence tying him to the attack so don’t really understand how his case has gone to trial.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/02/2026 21:12

I think Markie is in prison and his unspecified "gang" are carrying on his revenge-attacks in his absence, They just aren't very good at it without orders from the criminal mastermind who was arrested for selling knocked off meatballs, out of a van in a pub car-park.

Gonners · 11/02/2026 21:12

Yes, in the scriptwriters' minds, Markie is a Real Criminal and has Minions to do his bidding!
