Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that like George you like your steak very well done, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Mulligan mostly makes me think of John Finnemore's Souvenir Show. This is good, and tenuously connected to a recent TA storyline

Over to you!

I mean I put my chocolate on a high shelf but it doesn’t stop me eating it
I forget about it and it stays there until I clean the cupboard.
I recently threw out some Creme Eggs from about 2001.
I've got some mince pies from last Christmas. Reckon they'd be edible?

Edited

I reckon the creme eggs would survive an apocalypse!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/11/2025 17:49

I'd eat the mince pies if they looked and smelled OK.

MinnieBaldock · 13/11/2025 17:56

I couldn't leave creme eggs on top of the cupboard as they would use thier siren song calling me. Food noise is real believe me.

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 18:00

The Creme Eggs looked a bit scary.
The mince pies are unopened. I might give DCat one. If she survives, I'll share the others. If she dies, I'll be too sad to eat and I'll feed the others to HCat (Hated Cat). Would the other way round be better?

Didn't she also grab the steering wheel whilst George was driving this causing the car to swerve off the road, or am I completely imagining that bit?

She tried to get out of the car in order to be sick. I don't think there has been any suggestion she tried to grab the wheel: if what she wanted was to be sick outside her car, why would she lean further into it?

If George had stopped when she first said she felt sick and wanted to get out, instead of telling her she had to wait because they were nearly at the bridge, the accident would have been averted, too. He really was behaving in a totally stupid way that night.

(Synopsis for Sunday 5th May, 2024)
They are nearly there when Alice suddenly says 'stop', and then that she feels sick; George, alarmed, tells her she can't be sick in the car, and she takes him at his word and starts to open the door. He is frightened and tells her to leave it alone: they're nearly at the bridge and then she can get out, but she can't get out when they're moving.

Mind you, in my car she wouldn't have been able to open the passenger door anyway if they'd been going faster than about six mph; it locks all the doors automatically at that speed.

MinnieBaldock · 13/11/2025 18:04

Before you feed your cat poison mince pies look on the post we're the OP was up last night while her cat had 5 kittens.
It will make you think twice.🤣

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 18:21

I don't understand. DCat loves mince pies and is spayed. HCat is male.

Lalgarh · 13/11/2025 19:08

Urgh near squelching

Agapornis · 13/11/2025 19:55

Hazel?!? Surely the will would have stipulated not to invite her. Ruairi is definitely paying for this booking himself 😅

Agapornis · 13/11/2025 19:57

Brefugee · 13/11/2025 13:03

yeah, i remember that ad about "Mr X who died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family" and the camera pulls out and he's nodded asleep and crashed his car.

Forgot to say, was quite impressed that George went to meat the dragon in his den. I think the dad was slightly impressed by that too.

Your typo made me cackle - any episode where George goes to 'meat' a dragon should probably be broadcast later than 7pm...

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:10

Does dragon meat taste a bit like chicken?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/11/2025 20:14

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:10

Does dragon meat taste a bit like chicken?

I think it's probably a bit like crocodile.

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:22

Is crocodile a bit like chicken?

echt · 13/11/2025 20:24

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:22

Is crocodile a bit like chicken?

Yes. I had a crocodile burger, or was it a sandwich? at a crocodile farm in Queensland.
Cue -I want crocodile sandwich and make it snappy!

Bruisername · 13/11/2025 20:26

I am told crocodile is like fishy chicken

i imagine dragon is like smoky chicken

echt · 13/11/2025 20:28

When Kate was concerned about Phoebe's health and the beaver enclosures I'd immediately thought of all the signs up round petting farms about pregnant women and sheep.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/11/2025 20:30

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:22

Is crocodile a bit like chicken?

So people say. That was rather the point of my post....

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:52

It was a light-hearted post on my part. Probably because I couldn't think of anything to say about TA. Amber seemed more keen on George tonight. Confused

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/11/2025 21:38

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 20:22

Is crocodile a bit like chicken?

No it's a bit tasteless. I had crocodile in Namibia.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 13/11/2025 21:54

Crocodile is pretty gross, and I’ll eat most things. It has the texture of fat and is (fish) oily and I don’t remember anything chicken like about it at all. Maybe I had a bad bit but that was enough.

Bruisername · 13/11/2025 22:10

Crocodiles creep me out. They just lie there so still and then are so fast when they want to get you. And then the death roll. and they are just pure killing machines.

i mean wild dogs are brutal but at least they are cute!

Bruisername · 13/11/2025 22:11

Sorry. I forgot o was on the archers thread!

so we are thinking a dragon in the castles dungeons? I wouldn’t put it past these sw. Perhaps they are going to channel sleeping beauty with phoebes newborn. Who will be despatched to rescue them in 100 years?

ChersHeart · 13/11/2025 18:21

I don't understand. DCat loves mince pies and is spayed. HCat is male.

Raisins are poisonous to cats!

BeatriceBatchelor · 14/11/2025 03:30

I don't care about Amber's reconciliation with her mum. I would like to hear Elizabeth (remember her?) talking to her daughter about her plans for her year in Australia.

And I'd like to hear Josh talking with his Dad about taking over the tenancy at Meadow Farm (is that what its called?) and David being supportive and offering advice.

And I'd like to hear Kirsty and Rex realising they are meant for each other - no on air snogging though!

I don't want to hear whatever Joy is planning for the village Xmas event.

I don’t understand why we get brand new characters, and characters having relationships off screen (like Phoebe) when we hardly hear from existing characters and they don’t seem to ever move on in their lives. Like Freddie, for example. They must’ve been setting up his succession storyline for his whole life and now we don’t hear anything about it for years while we get random new characters we’re supposed to care about.
