Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that like George you like your steak very well done, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Mulligan mostly makes me think of John Finnemore's Souvenir Show. This is good, and tenuously connected to a recent TA storyline

Over to you!

He’s not exactly a catch either though - he’s just so beige. And he doesn’t seem to have any drive or ambition.

the whole thing about Amber being an influencer feels very forced. She leaned into dating a convict but now he’s out why isn’t she involving him?

Maersk · 12/11/2025 07:56

echt · 12/11/2025 07:42

Harsh.

Brad is not a loser.

I can see Brad as a future Martin Lewis or Tim Harford!

TottersBlithely · 12/11/2025 09:04

Why isn’t she involving George in her influencing thing?

Maybe because the SWs have reached the limit of their knowledge or interest?

I do feel sorry for George - it must be obvious that Amber ought to have been instagramming the hell out of the bougie restaurant proposal.

Bruisername · 12/11/2025 09:16

Yes it’s bizarre - I know enough to know that these influencers post everything except their daily bowel movements (ok some probably do) and she must have had big plans for when he was out of prison. There must be some farm work he can be doing on Grundy land she can film him doing for eg!

SisterTeatime · 12/11/2025 13:02

George was doing influencer-ish stuff before. He could create a nice niche for himself. Amber should have been all over it

ChersHeart · 12/11/2025 14:01

George's influeza work was drone or Bartleby related. Bartleby has gone to the green green grassland in the sky and who'd want George operating a drone over their property.

Maybe the fancy restaurant wasn't the right sort of bougie.
I did feel sorry for Geowurge. Excepting Neil, his immediate family have done him no favours. The actor is great.
I think the SW will get mileage out of Keira.

Lalgarh · 12/11/2025 14:12

Haha ha the brush off for the proposal

Rightly or not, most people view addictions to alcohol and drugs as self inflicted, entirely avoidable illnesses.

Rightly or not, most people judge women who continue to abuse alcohol and drugs during pregnancy, thus directly harming the foetus. Some people see this as a form of child abuse.

Alice’s alcoholism (like anyone’s) has a terrible impact on family, friends and anyone else caught up in the wake. I know many here do not share this view - but if she had not been hopelessly drunk in charge of a motor vehicle none of this would have happened. George made a series of unjustifiable bad decisions but so did she - with none of the mitigations. that youth and a lack of education can bring up.

Puts on hard hat!

I agree…

ChersHeart · 12/11/2025 16:32

She had parked the car off the road. She didn't cause any of it. I'm not sure if it would be considered being 'drunk in charge' as I don't know if the car was in a public place.

Bruisername · 12/11/2025 16:37

Wasn’t she in a lay-by?

anyway, she must be due a relapse?

She was on land accessible to the public so she was drunk in charge.

You can also be charged on your own drive way if the police believe you have/intend to drive the vehicle. You can also be charged while asleep in the car. She put the key in the glove box but that would not be sufficient to avoid a charge.

Well it was clearly right on the road for George to have seen the car given it was dark

ChersHeart · 12/11/2025 16:52

It's debateable. She was effectively out cold, and was abducted by an opportunistic car thief.
Had she been found and reported, she might not have been charged, or if she had it would have been a fine and 12 points.

Was it that dark, it was on the 6th of May, so it might not have been pitch black. The car wasn't on the road, she'd pulled off it.

Bruisername · 12/11/2025 16:55

I don’t think it’s debatable that she fell foul of the drunk in charge but given she wasn’t found by the police at that stage nothing happened with that

ChersHeart · 12/11/2025 17:01

I mean 'it’s debatable that she fell foul of the drunk in charge'. Obviously, she was in charge of a car and steaming drunk, but Road Traffic Act 1988

🤢 to Joy suggesting strip poker for the Archers family trip to Scotland. That would make Jacob’s buttocks clench..

Bruisername · 12/11/2025 17:21

She suggested strip poker for a family holiday activity? Okaaaay

Old Amber (or pre-ick Amber) would have definitely let out one of her trademark squeals at the proposal and ring.

I think the cheapo ring wasn't Insta-worthy.

TottersBlithely · 12/11/2025 17:52

The narrative does seem a tad confused. What we originally heard was that she became impressed with George via his SM, and was both outraged by his imprisonment and socially elevated (in a street cred way) by having a boyfriend in prison.

Then we heard she was attracting lots of sponsorship and free stuff for the wedding.

So surely, now George has been released, he ought to be central to her SM? Both in terms of publicising his difficulties post-prison, but also, relatedly, in getting more free stuff - a suit and wedding transport etc, etc. Otherwise what’s the point of it all?

ChersHeart · 12/11/2025 17:58

There's no mileage in the relationship for her any more.
He's not imprisoned, so the novelty has gone.
Poor Georgie.

He's blown £££ on a flash unappreciated meal and cheap engagement ring, and proposed again without the insta-worthiness for her.

She's probably seeing him with a fresh pair of eyes. Wink

FullOfLemons · 12/11/2025 18:26

The strip poker suggestion was complete bonkers.

I wonder if they are using AI to write the script. No human would have thought of it … as an alternative to playing “I spy”

Bruisername · 12/11/2025 18:38

I guess more is going to come out about Joy 🤔

TottersBlithely · 12/11/2025 18:57

The next BBC scandal, @FullOfLemons?

I missed last night, did she actually suggest that?! God she's a repulsive woman. What on earth would induce a woman in her sixties to suggest such a thing. Does she actually think that parents and children, aunts and uncles, want to bet each other to take their clothes off? Would she, Mick and Rochelle play it, the mind boggles as to what she thinks is normal.

TottersBlithely · 12/11/2025 19:16

Comedy … what is it … cockney?

Appalling.
