Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle , Most of them are 'real actors'. Some have non-acting jobs too (Will and Adil work in schools, Susan works in academia).

Weaver's squishing happened under Ruth's watch, though, didn't it?

Ruth was asked to hold his lead, and let go of it. She is seriously useless.

Why, if Stella was soooo good at her job is it such a mess that Adam ( poor love ), is pulling his hair out.

Because she wasn't?

Bruisername · 09/09/2025 14:42

I feel like the Stella actress wants to move on and hopefully not having a job (leaving with no notice is hardly professional) and having a psycho gf to run away from will expedite her escape

Agapornis · 09/09/2025 16:24

Urgh
I shouldn't have shared the link 😂

Open to +1 invitations for those of you with spare tickets 😘 will trade for a firm flapjack.

Oh gosh - just looked up Ronny Jhutti/Adil, he doesn't even list being an actor on his LinkedIn! Doubt we'll ever hear him again beyond the odd phone call. Which I know some people will be pleased about, but I'm not.

TheCrasher · 09/09/2025 16:28

@Agapornis , I only asked for 1. Thought I'd be more likely to get one.

I think that once you have become known on an extremely popular soap like Eastenders or Corrie, then it can be hard to get work. The ones who get work tend to do so in a vehicle.

An actor I know was thrilled to get a part as an extra in EE. I didn't have the heart to tell her.

The son of someone I worked with had quite a big role in Corrie some time ago but the part was written out due to another actor's commitments. He was advised not to continue with the bar job he has as people idiots like to 'have a go' at anyone vaguely famous so he lost both jobs.

I'm really sorry, I did the same.

Don't worry, so did I! Luck of the draw. I'm sure there'll be some cancellations, fingers crossed.

BeatriceBatchelor · 09/09/2025 18:17

Adam to Ruairi: "you are doing this graduate training scheme, arent you?"

Ruairi: "what? <splutters> well er yes."

🤔

BeatriceBatchelor · 09/09/2025 18:18

And Adam talking about when Stella's been "replaced." I thought he was the replacement?

🤔

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/09/2025 18:54

If Adam doesn't think he is Stella's replacement, giving notice at Bridge Farm was rather short-sighted of him. He might not find it all that easy to walk into a job that meets his exacting requirements, as for instance being less then twenty minutes commute from his home, and having no requirement for him to do manual labour, which at fifty-eight he might not be the best prospect to do. I know employers are not allowed to be ageist, but I'm sure there could be other reasons, such as his churlish and demanding attitude, that meant he was not most people's first choice of employee.

Gonners · 09/09/2025 19:01

Adam is no doubt convinced that Brian will make a show of recruiting for Stella's replacement but that he will get the job. Meanwhile, some evil listeners are rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of Brian hiring Anyone-But-Adam. On the assumption that Alice realises that a degree in aeronautical engineering isn't going to help her (and remembers that last time she worked there she had an office full of empty vodka bottles) this could be an opportunity for - I dunno - Khalil? Mick? Or Clarrie could probably fit in a shift or two.

Lily, with her First (in Estate Management?) would be a particularly amusing choice. I know a couple of people with qualifications in Rural Estate Management from Cirencester (now a university and called something else) but they all went there because they actually had rural estates to inherit and manage.

TottersBlankly · 09/09/2025 19:07

I did wonder about Ruairi and the err, what course?

Currently both agog and aghast that Dane has yet another new voice …

Lalgarh · 09/09/2025 19:11

Wtf is all this Wally Treadmire buns discourse

TottersBlankly · 09/09/2025 19:17

What an odd tone that episode had … 🤔

Lalgarh · 09/09/2025 19:18

Are they about to retire Charlotte Smith from Farming Today and this is the consolation from BBC management is all I can think

The actor voicing Dane seems still to be Stavros Demetraki, but he is clearly, um, very versatile.

Nick Warburton wrote this week's episodes. No further explanation for the weird, the unprecedented or the completely disconnected is really necessary, I feel.

One of my other addictions is Ben Pentreath's Inspirations blog, in which English, New Zealand and now Scottish Flower and Produce shows are a recurring theme, and from that I have gathered that judges tend to be properly trained, equipped with strict rules and on the circuit and that display stands and plates are strictly regulated for fairness.

Not cobbled together by clueless nitwits the Tuesday beforehand.

So which is wrong, the BP blog or the TA SWs?

TheCrasher · 09/09/2025 20:07

@Gonners , Undergraduate Courses | Royal Agricultural University
Joy's is probably one of the alumni.

Me too re Ben Pentreath's blog, @DeanElderberry

ETA - I’d definitely be inclined to believe him rather than the SWs…..

Arf! "Places available on all courses through Clearing, email us now... or call us ..." Or perhaps just turn up on the day? No GCSEs? No problem!

One of the men I know who went there (and "graduated") in its Cirencester days was very prestigiously educated but couldn't pass what was then O-level maths. He had the good sense to marry an accountant.

Our village, population around 1200, had its equivalent to the F&P show recently. It was announced in the village newsletter that judges operated under RHS rules, which I suspect came as news to the majority of us.
