Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Rupert Vansittart (the Lawrence actor) is 67 according to the search I did.

FizzingAda · 08/09/2025 15:41

At least with the voices that irritate you know who is speaking - I still can't tell the difference between Rex, Josh and Ben. Only just started recognising Tom!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2025 16:50

We're hearing so little of Josh it's no wonder nobody recognises him when he does turn up.

Denise is moonlighting in The Guest at the moment, so that partly explains why we haven't heard anything from her for ages.

By the way R4 continuity was plugging The Archers Podcast which is promising a reunion between Nigel Pargeter and Freddie with the inference of THAT scream being heard again

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2025 17:49

Gosh, that's weird! The two actors will never have met in The Archers recording studio before.

Here is the 'secret' link, even if posting it reduces my chances of getting a ticket 😅

Thanks for the tip off! Was anyone else successful? I'm going. Smile

Yes actually they said that. Some sort of meta deep dive into lore

Nothing yet 😬 when did you hear?

I quite liked the Nigel & Freddie official brown-nosing episode. Nigel died about a year after I started listening casually, I didn't know anything about his Mummy. Was their relationship as entertaining as they made it sound?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2025 18:37

This morning. I hope I haven't deprived you of your chance!

I really enjoyed listening to Julia Pargetter. Her relationships with Nigel, Elizabeth and Elizabeth's family were gloriously awful.

No doubt it will be broadcast as an official podcast special!

TottersBlankly · 08/09/2025 19:16

Whoop!

A reserved whoop though …

(For Ruairi’s return.)

DeanElderberry · 08/09/2025 19:42

Cleo sounds adorable, she shouldn't be let near the ghastly canicidal Archers.

TheCrasher · 08/09/2025 20:15

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g , me.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2025 20:20

So at least 2/100 from MN! Not a bad result. Green carnation in the buttonhole?

All this "but Row-zeeee!" business is nonsense. Pip doesn't want Cleo in the house because she doesn't want a dog. Rosie is just an excuse. Stella rightly thinks this is nonsense, because she has made it pretty clear that she has no wish to move in with Rosie - or rather with Pip. And who can blame her? Pip's voice alone (vaguely reminiscent of Jill's, post-deafness, in its hooting quality) is enough to drive a person to distraction/drink, and that's disregarding the wittering stupidity.

It was good to hear Ruairi, though - the only gay in the village actor in TA who doesn't feel the need deliver his lines as though he were playing in a 1960s parody.

DeanElderberry · 08/09/2025 21:01

Excellent to hear Ruairi. I hope he demonstrates very competent farm skills and gets prevailed upon to stay.

Do remember of course that Stella's record with dogs isn't good either.

Pip's objections are risible- are they setting this up for a split?

Adam was totally weird.

JanFebAndOnwards · 08/09/2025 21:16

The whole episode was completely weird!
And why on earth can’t they work out who got paid!

Weaver's squishing happened under Ruth's watch, though, didn't it?

I was wondering whether all the Brookfield Archers hate dogs, but of course Ben has the lovely Bess.

Ooh who is she in The Guest? [What a load of tosh that is]

Just googled her. I didn't realise "Denise" is played by a real actor as opposed to someone who only does The Archers. Clare Perkins has an impressive CV.

That was on last Friday.

Ria's friend Sharl's Mum. Yes, it's utter tosh, but I enjoyed it.

Why did Adam not want Rauiri to help. Why, if Stella was soooo good at her job is it such a mess that Adam ( poor love ), is pulling his hair out. Is Adam worried that Rauiri might take over and Brian might get rid of Adam again.
Pip is awful, every single thing is centered around Rosie and in her eyes everyone must adore her as much as she does. I think she is going to have the perfect child syndrome that Emma suffers from. I hope Stella gets this new job and she has to move away and she takes Clio with her.

LillianGish · 09/09/2025 09:14

Ruairi - right on cue! Invited back by the other disruptor Kate, who forced the sale of the farmhouse so she wouldn't have to move her tents. And Adam is overwhelmed by managing the farm and looking after Xander - compare and contrast with Pip - having given up the job he took to make life easier (as Ben reminded him). Alice is silent for now, but we all remember Brian's conversation anointing her as the chosen one. The stage is set...rubs hands.
