Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

Somehow missed new thread

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/07/2025 19:21

So when did Markie's mate go on trial, to know that Kenton had grassed him up? Or do the police tell suspects that they have been identified, and by whom?

stilldumdedumming · 11/07/2025 19:36

Clarrie pulled a sickie (to check on Amber).

Amber is off work with stress.

CrashThere · 11/07/2025 19:39

Liz John – I'd say 50s. Going by writing for "Doctors" and other radio and TV since 2001.

RegimentalSturgeon · 11/07/2025 20:20

In short, all the SWs are old enough to know better (not that youth would be an excuse).

DeanElderberry · 11/07/2025 20:27

Why do they have to torture poor defenceless animals all the time? They could have poisoned Kenton or Jolene if they wanted to make a drama. We might have pretended to care.

But not a little cat.

Bruisername · 11/07/2025 20:49

I’m glad I didn’t listen if an animal was harmed in the making of the episode

Lalgarh · 11/07/2025 20:54

Yes and it seemed a Bit Basil Exposition in outlining what type of ailments the meds in question were for

DeanElderberry · 11/07/2025 21:02

Also if I want cat vomit I can get it at home. Not because I'm a poisoner but because I get suckered into cutting bunches of grass for the little rotters darlings.

Bruisername, she is currently safe under Alastair's care, but they still shouldn't have put her in harm's way.

WombatCowgirl · 11/07/2025 21:07

They don't like cats. I've remarked on that before with regards to Hilda.

Gonners · 11/07/2025 21:08

Tortoise (ridiculously undignified name) must have the mental acuity of Kenton if he or she was tricked into swallowing a pill.

Or Amber.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 11/07/2025 21:19

I do like Alastair. I didn't think I'd ever say this but poor Kenton and Jolene.

Gonners · 11/07/2025 21:33

I agree about Alistair, as long as we no longer have to hear about his sex life. Poor Kenton and Jolene ... not so much. Kenton is an idiot and I have never understood why Jolene (who isn't) puts up with him.

But not a little cat.

That was my immediate thought.

I gave up listening for quite a while after the "buy a child a puppy for Christmas"" storyline, which I found sickening.

How did they put her in harm's way? They didn't do anything wrong.

DeanElderberry · 12/07/2025 07:46

She is a cat. If anything happens to her it's their fault. That's the rule.

Even if the thing involves the cat eating a pill concealed in cat treats left - somewhere, I'm not sure where.

Just as it's my fault that a cat (who shall remain nameless) declined to eat a worm pill concealed in a cube of his favourite deLuxe chicken parfait with sweet white wine last week. I am wracked with guilt.

Most cats or dogs won't take medication you want them to have never mind eat it voluntarily.

DeanElderberry · 12/07/2025 08:10

I've never had a problem with dosing a dog.

ExitPursuedByABare · 12/07/2025 08:56

I keep mishearing Tortoise as Sawdust.

Bruisername · 12/07/2025 08:58

My older dog manages to eat the treat it is hidden in and just as I think I’ve tricked him he spits the pill out and we have to go through increasingly valuable treats until he has it

my younger dog is so greedy we have no such problems

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/07/2025 08:58

ExitPursuedByABare · 12/07/2025 08:56

I keep mishearing Tortoise as Sawdust.

I turned on a bit late and thought they were talking about an actual tortoise at first.

BeatriceBatchelor · 12/07/2025 09:31

I've just listened to Friday's episode and thought Susan's outburst was well written and beautifully acted.

I think Clarrie is enjoying being Top Grandma and her budding relationship with Amber.

I think the lawyers would have been served with copy witness evidence, including presumably one dealing with the identification.

BeatriceBatchelor · 12/07/2025 09:51

Poor Kenton. Poor Pirate. Poor Tortoise. Poor dogs who Markey's lot were trading. This SL is too Eastenders for me.
