Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to spend time with Martyn Gibson, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

In some haste as we are going out for the day. I was asked weeks ago to put I've Killed the Vicar in as the new title but I agree with more recent comments that Peggy's funeral feels like old news now. Great line, though. Sorry not to have used Markie Malarkey, though. I've settled on something that will only make sense to people who were also youngish in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Here's a clue. If a certain person appears in tomorrow's episode the title will be relevant.

Over to you!

Aagh! How could I possibly have forgotten Kate!

Wishful thinking?

I’ve been catching up (on the tribunal and the Archers).

I thought that when Kenton and Jolene went outside when they saw the sign on fire I could hear the drone that Ed was practicing flying. I thought we had been cued into spotting this following Mia and Amber’s exchange about the drone whilst watching the sun rise. I thought the cries of of ‘there won’t be any witnesses at this time in the morning’ was a pretty lame set up - ready for Ed’s later, shocking discovery that he captured the footage on his drone.

I came on here ready to read you giving the SWs a drubbing - instead, I am left thinking I must have imagined hearing the drone over The Bull. Or, perhaps I’ve just missed the posts discussing it 🤷‍♀️

well spotted! 🔮

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 30/07/2025 19:20

Indeed! Well done @Brainworm. 🏅

Interesting tonight - two philosophical conversations.

Are we being introduced to a future with Stella at Brookfield?

And really, it shouldn’t be impossible for George to proceed to academic or vocational qualifications once he’s free.

Gonners · 30/07/2025 19:30

I haven't yet listened to tonight's episode, but am already laughing at the prospect of two philosophical conversations. I think I need food and wine first.

Bruisername · 30/07/2025 19:39

I haven’t listened but is the markie sl being neatly tied up with the drone footage?

whilst I didn’t like the SL I hate the way they deal with legal issues. Like the coercive control being ended in her attacking him

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 30/07/2025 19:46

And now I’m wondering if Freddie has ever enjoyed a truly carefree day since his incarceration …

TheUsualChaos · 30/07/2025 20:58

Pushing aside the weirdness of Mia leaving mid meal to go and see Brad, that was quite a nice episode tonight.

How lovely for Mia to be close to her Aunt and Uncle. Reminded me of how I became very close to my aunt following the death of my Mum, although I was much older than Mia was. But having a close older female relative to turn to has been so important.

I then spent the remainder of my drive home trying to remember her mum Nic's name. It just wouldn't come to me at all and I had to look it up. How ridiculous! Isn't brain fog wonderful 🙄

TeenToTwenties · 31/07/2025 07:26

Oh thats who she was texting! Dur.
(Only caught half the episode).

TheUsualChaos · 31/07/2025 08:39

She was texting the new uni boyfriend but then decided she absolutely must tell Brad she is now taken because Amber convinced her that he isn't over her. It was just odd and overdramatic and not in character for Mia at all.

LillianGish · 31/07/2025 08:42

Are we being introduced to a future with Stella at Brookfield? I wondered that too - she sounded so at ease with David. Though no doubt not before she and Pip (and Justin and Brian for that matter) have had a big bust-up.

stilldumdedumming · 31/07/2025 08:56

If you ignore the Marky SL that was a fine episode. And Mia saying let’s look at the menu! Yes, the one vegan option Mia.

Abra1t · 31/07/2025 09:45

More Stella and David interactions, please!

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 31/07/2025 10:05

I dunno … I seem to have come to the end of understanding English. You have a long conversation with someone, where they confide all their existential anxieties - and then you end with Well, if you ever want to talk, we’re here for you.

It has been boggling my mind probably since Friends - but I’d been hoping I’d eventually grasp the point. I still haven’t.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 31/07/2025 10:10

@LillianGish - I have been worrying about you! Have you wrestled the BBC (or some earthly substitute) into compliance with your (shared but clearly masochistic) wish to continue listening to the Fall of the Houses of Archer?

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 31/07/2025 10:11

I find the farming stuff a bit boring tbh.

Edited

It appears that threats to remove the podcast have been greatly exaggerated and despite imminent warnings at the top of my page accompanied by various panicked posts on here from other expat listeners, typing the Archers into my search bar as I have always done brings up the podcast, just as it has always done (albeit with a massive advert across the top now).

I cannot listen to the podcast on bbc.com - it only works for a few minutes then freezes. From my experience they might as well remove it.

I now listen on Spotify with no issues - does not make any sense to me to stop expats listening on Sounds/BBC.com but push them to a completely outside service such as Spotify.

Although, to be honest The Archers makes no sense at the moment with no continuity and rewriting of the past I should not be surprised.

EBearhug · 31/07/2025 12:09

A friend in NL was able to reinstall BBC Sounds and can now listen as usual. But it's possible it may vary according to country - you can watch BBC 1&2 in NL.

SaffyRosie · 31/07/2025 12:53

Didn't Brad finish with Mia? So why are they worrying they he's not over her?

He did. And Because Plot; there is precious little other excuse for it.

SaffyRosie · 31/07/2025 12:57

Kate is absolutely awful.

So selfish, lack of self awareness and a bully.. Been handed everything on a silver spoon. I'll never forgive her for forcing Brian and the sainted Jenny to sell their house just so she didn't have to move her tinpot business.

She is an awful mother. Left one child in the UK to swan off to South Africa and when the going got difficult (she had a scuzzy affair) left her children to run back to the UK.

He didn't really want to though it was because they were going to separate universities and he thought it would be too difficult. That's the impression I got anyway.

JanglyBeads · 31/07/2025 14:22

It was Amber who suggested he wasn't over her. Amber.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 31/07/2025 20:03

Is it received wisdom or an actual now that Chelsea bullied Amber?
