Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Harrison to hasten home, or other unusual views.

Thanks to John Donne for the title inspiration. The funeral of the century beckons. How much of it do we think we will hear? Kate confirmed tonight that Shula, Debbie, Noli and Sipho are all coming. If we hear one peep from any of them I'll be amazed. Bets on Hazel turning up?

Loved it when the door shut after the repellent Amber left and Will simply said "dear god in heaven".

I don’t think Harassment Bhas done anything that would relate to the warning, which iirc related to talking about details of cases he was involved with. All he did tonight was tell the fool Kenton that he’d royally fucked up, without sugar-coating it.
Yorkshire clearly isn’t agreeing with Burns: he’s getting even more Lancashire in self defence. They really should put the thick, boring git poor sod out of his misery.

Right well I’ve listened - skipped Amber parts in the main. She sounds so much older than George and doesn’t sound like she went to his school somehow. In fact she sounds middle aged

I really don't understand why they keep trying to give us actors and actresses trying to pretend to play up to or down to an age by more than a decade.

Us boomers (and I think I might be too young to be a boomer) have coped with telephones and radios for long enough to have a bit of a clue how old somebody might be when they open their mouth, even if the SW's have been too busy scribbling. Amber is a decade older than George and certainly sounds like it!

So when she knew him at school and he was a cool kid she didn't think she had a chance with she was a teacher? That makes more sense than anything else.

I'm going to echo Will and say Dear God in Heaven. That was appalling.

The actor playing the execrable Amber has just left Coronation Street - 393 episodes, according to IMDB, which seems a lot, given the dates are 2020-25. In real life she is 30 or 31. George is 20. Angus Stobie graduated in 2022, so is probably slightly older.

Agree it's a way of getting rid of Harrison, a character I like.

Amber was horrendous and unintentionally very funny.

Boop Emma, Will and Ed. My husband, who does know this stuff, was listening by accident and says Harrison is talking rubbish.

Amber was both hilarious and chilling.
Emma should have stood up for herself, the family and even for George, who is simply being used as a prop for Amber’s “life” which exists entirely online.

I've enjoyed Will over the past two episodes. He was such an unpleasant man when he was married to Nic but is really growing as a character now. Well, he would if he got a fraction of Joy's airtime.

Amber the Influencer was badly written and acted.

Omg would never have recognised Amber from Corrie. She played a huge rule for the five years she was in it.

I wasn't. I genuinely thought it was just Ed but I clearly wasn't paying attention.

I don’t mind Amber being older than George (if that’s the story they’re actually telling?). Let’s not forget he has always shown a leaning towards older women.

And aren’t women who become ‘prison groupies’ often rather older than the men they obsess over? (Happy Valley again.)

The only thing is that that type of woman doesn’t seem to gel with the ‘influencer’ persona they’ve invented for her.

Anyway, on the whole I’m finding George’s love live quite a refreshing story! Slightly hilarious - and if it brings Will back to our ears it’s all to the good.

I miss him so much as a careful, professional gamekeeper having serious conversations with Brian; woven into the rhythm of seasonal country life - never thought I’d have to be grateful to hear him simply as a concerned parent.

I’d like Will to have a love interest … something non dramatic but showing how people can move on whilst always loving someone they’ve lost .

But she’s not older than him - she got the car for her 18th and it’s implied it’s rather new so she must be either his year of school or the one below. But she sounds old enough to be his mum

so are we to believe she was the unpopular kid who turned it around after leaving to become this outwardly confident cow?

by drawing her in we are also going to end up stuck with her family. I’d just like to have a bit more time spent on the existing characters tbh. It’s been nice to hear will again and I’d love it if he went back to gamekeeping. Hating the dross nonsense but at least it’s got a bit of history to it.

While I'd like Amber to disappear fairly quickly and definitely don't want her family to join the cast I would love to know what her parents make of her 'relationship' with George.

Oh, I’m definitely confused about her age! It would be better if they portrayed her as being quite a bit older than George. But maybe the SW is also confused …
