Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Harrison to hasten home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to John Donne for the title inspiration. The funeral of the century beckons. How much of it do we think we will hear? Kate confirmed tonight that Shula, Debbie, Noli and Sipho are all coming. If we hear one peep from any of them I'll be amazed. Bets on Hazel turning up?

Over to you!

the whole point about Miranda being kicked out, i feel, is because her mum had just died, and 4 months later "wicked stepmother" swoops in and kicks her out. That is harsh in anyone's book

i don't think Brian was awed by the grounds/house, just appreciative and admiring "the pile"

i quite enjoyed hearing that elder generation talking like old friends

Bruisername · 19/06/2025 19:16

Why go to the Serengeti when you can go to ambridge🙄

I can only hope the sw aren’t dumb enough to get rid of a chunk of farming to replace it with eco lodges

Shareholder value anyone? He’s blatantly going to spring it on the board tomorrow

So Miranda is being lined up as a Wicked Stepmother to Brian and Jenny's children. Not subtle, by any means. I do hope Miranda doesn't go on the holiday. I couldn't stand a squishy clinch in the villa pool, or a rerun of the Sid and Jolene shower scene. Perhaps the strain will kill Brian; he's been sounding frail and all the 'love' chatter must be a prelude to yet another death.

Sidebeforeself · 19/06/2025 19:52

Ooh it would be a good storyline though…Brian’s kids reacting to having a wicked stepmum..

StillWeRise · 19/06/2025 19:55

yeah, I think Brian is going to die, but possibly after he has married Miranda and/or changed his will in her favour

(is it still the law that a marriage invalidates a will?)

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 19/06/2025 20:00

I actually know, from a professional viewpoint a fair bit about what Justin was banging on about and he's totally lost the plot.

muddyford · 19/06/2025 20:02

And I do too. Another poorly researched SL.

I think it is, yes. Unless it includes the words "In contemplation of marriage" and naming the intended spouse, in which case I think it is valid.

Bruisername · 19/06/2025 20:05

I really don’t think Brian would be that stupid

muddyford · 19/06/2025 20:08

Brian was being pretty stupid last night!

Poppins2016 · 19/06/2025 20:19

WitcheryDivine · 19/06/2025 15:29

How’s the baby @Poppins2016 ?

Just about to turn 14 months! She's a cheeky little character (and is keeping me busy, along with her 2 older brothers and a part time job, which is why I've not caught up with TA yet, although I made a good stab at it earlier while WFH and only have a few episodes to go)!

How's your little one? I think our babies are fairly close in age, aren't they?

Unless the plot isn’t MOAR rewilding! LUXURIOUS ecotourism! MAJESTIC beavers stalk the meadows of Ambridge! but rather ‘the men in white coats come for Justin and Peggy’s charity won’t help because it’s the wrong sort of cognitive decline’.

UnintentionalArcher · 19/06/2025 21:37

I’ve taught multiple Brodies. There are at least three (male and female) that I can think of in our school at the moment!

Possibly, but Charles Collingwood on the BBC Archers podcast recently was saying that he would go on as long as he could. Of course, he may have no choice in the matter! I found it the most interesting podcast episode so far.

BeatriceBatchelor · 20/06/2025 05:26

I really don't know how Stella can stand Pip. First of all banging on about Fat Rosie, then demanding Stella talk about something she's said she no longer wants to discuss.

And I'm not a fan of picnics!

muddyford · 20/06/2025 06:14

I don't see what Stella gets out of the relationship; I love picnics but if I were having one with Pip, I would be forcing her head through the neck of the trusty Thermos flask.

Nettleteaser101 · 20/06/2025 07:16

I can't understand why Stella hasn't mentioned Justin's idea for re-wilding to brian, couldn't understand what he is going on about and how BL would make money out of it. (I think I would rather go on safari than stay in a hut in Borchester.)
You would think as Stella loves her Job she would rush over to Brian straight away to tell him. Oh and she is a mug being with Pip.
Oh course Brian is going to say Martha is marvellous and Alice is the best mum in the whole world. I think Alice should feel guilty about all the drinking she did whilst she was pregnant, it's easy to say " I didn't know I was up the duff at the time", but she is an Alcoholic no matter when she was drinking. Also she didn't stop drinking when Martha was born either. Nearly dropped her at her Christening.

Bruisername · 20/06/2025 07:59

Let’s say Justin’s idea for eco lodges has legs (I’m not convinced) - he implied they would be targeting people who love nature.

now safaris in Southern Africa are my favourite things to do and I love the nature etc etc but I can’t see myself going to one of these ecolodges for more than a long weekend tbh.

and what price bracket is he going for?

it just seems so stupid I can’t see how he thinks a shareholder would support him. You wouldn’t see a profit for years if not decades

MissMarplesNiece · 20/06/2025 11:20

Are the SWs thinking about the rewinding project at Knepp where people can camp or stay in Yurts or Shepherd's Huts? I think it's taken Knepp about 20 years to rewild their land (3500 acres) to the point where people would want to holiday there for the wildlife.

Also they own that land, don't they? So they don't have to worry about finding the rent every year. which the Ambridge Rewilding Project does.

Bruisername · 20/06/2025 18:57

Heard the end of the Matt force comedy yesterday and Anna soubray really upset me with her comments on kids with sen.

maybe it would be good to have something realistic on how hard it can be

Bruisername · 20/06/2025 19:18

Moral support 🙄. Agree with Kate - Natasha and Tom are a bit wet!!! Is it because they have the first twins in the world.

Adam too tired 🤣. Isn’t he always!!!

Justin becoming an eco warrior is pretty tiresome. No surprise he lied to Stella about not mentioning it and then dropped her in it. But there’s definitely something wrong with him because he’s totally lost it

DadDadDad · 20/06/2025 20:03

Is there any link between this character Justin Elliott and the ruthless head of a City investment firm that arrived in Ambridge about ten years ago, also called Justin Elliott if I remember correctly?

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 20/06/2025 20:10

None whatsoever. They just coincidentally happen to have the same name …

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 20/06/2025 20:38

What a load of tosh. All of it.
