Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Harrison to hasten home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to John Donne for the title inspiration. The funeral of the century beckons. How much of it do we think we will hear? Kate confirmed tonight that Shula, Debbie, Noli and Sipho are all coming. If we hear one peep from any of them I'll be amazed. Bets on Hazel turning up?

Over to you!

I want Meriel for Ruairi.

RegimentalSturgeon
There was a brief bout of extreme nastiness, aided and abetted by Lily, when it became clear that both of them saw the pickers and Lexi as lesser, disposable beings.

I disagree with this interpretation: it became clear that LILY saw the pickers and Lexi as lesser, disposable beings, whereas Phoebe (who was one of the pickers herself, and liked and admired Lexi) was outraged by Lily's odious attitude and tore her off a mighty strip for putting the blame for the pregnancy test Roy found in the bathroom onto Lexi rather than Phoebe having had a ONS with Constantin (whom Lexi described as "a busy little boy" because of his sexual incontinence).

After Roy had just found the test, Phoebe (whose test it was) didn't manage to say anything while Lily launched into the set of total lies about Lexi and Constantin, because she didn't actually want to talk with her father about being afraid she might be pregnant from a ONS.

i assume Brodie is Scottish?

Deerhound, Border terrier, Golden Rteriever, Smooth Collie, Skye terrier?

The last would be brilliant, they have amazing ears and people could comment on them to assist our building a picture in our minds. Though the Golden would make a more reliable role model. A Shetland sheepdog could keep the sprog rounded up and under control once it's mobile.

I have taught a human Brodie but have never met a canine Brodie.

WombatCowgirl · 13/06/2025 17:54

Just listened to the dull funeral - if they had done it while the Peggy actress was still alive to enjoy it, she would have enjoyed it!

ExitPursuedByABare · 13/06/2025 18:03

Yes @Buxusmortus thats what I meant. I was going to get a pen paper and draw out the family tree but knew it would be easier asking you lot 😉

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 13/06/2025 19:25

So Phoebe, who can’t have seen her South African half-sister and brother for yonks, spends the entire day with Kirsty and doesn’t even take her siblings along to admire her legacy? Hmm (And there’s no way they’d have left Ambridge immediately.)

RegimentalSturgeon · 13/06/2025 19:27

You have ‘met’ Noluthando, @TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden ?
Well, then.

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 13/06/2025 19:32

A BOOP for the tremor in Kristy’s voice when she was congratulating Phoebe.

(Honorary Aunt, indeed.)

I don’t know if we should be imagining delighted reunion hugs between Noli and Freddie - or not?

Mashbutterfly · 13/06/2025 19:48

Good grief. I can't take any more Peggy funeral.

WitcheryDivine · 13/06/2025 22:16

Phoebe called Kirsty “kirst” (cursed)? 🫣

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 13/06/2025 22:51

There was some terrible acting tonight.

DeanElderberry · 14/06/2025 06:05

It reminded me why I never took to Phoebe even when she was around. Terribly dull (and to me rather unpleasant) voice.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 14/06/2025 08:27

Poor Kristy - she really wants a baby doesn’t she (or even a grandbaby!). She really sounded like she was having to swallow jealousy over Phoebe’s baby and the
honorary auntie bit was somewhat of a bitter pill. Maybe she’ll get promoted to godmother.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 14/06/2025 08:30

ExitPursuedByABare · 13/06/2025 14:28

My brain is a bit frazzled so forgive me asking, but will Phoebe’s baby be the first of a new generation?

It's interesting how the generations have panned out between the 2 matriarchs. Peggy had 3 children, 8 grandchildren [Adam, Debbie, Kate, Alice, James, John, Helen and Tom] and 11 great grandchildren [Phoebe, Noli, Sipho, Zander, Martha, Mungo, the Starry Twins, Johnny, Henry and Jack].

Jill has 4 children, 7 grandchildren [Pip, Ben, Josh, Meriel, Lily, Freddie and Dan] but only 1 great grandchild- Rosie- assuming the never heard from Meriel has no children.

For the Peggy dynasty Phoebe's child will be the first great, great grandchild and of the great grandchildren Noli and Johnny are now old enough to be parents.

For the Jill dynasty, there's no possibility of a great, great grandchild for at least the next 15 years or so. So far as more great grandchildren Pip doesn't seem to want another child; Ben, Josh, Lily and Freddie don't seem likely to have children in the foreseeable future. Dan is awol so far as the SWs.

JoelenesParrot · 14/06/2025 08:37

Jill is younger than Peggy and so her grandchildren are younger too. Give them time…Ben has already had one near miss…

Jill is only 6 years younger than Peggy. Jill was born in 1930 and Peggy 1924.

Madcats · 14/06/2025 08:58

Thought for the day: Why isn’t Kirsty dating?

There are bound to be a few single dads in Felpersham/Borchester.

I see on X that they had to rejig Friday’s episode because “Tony” was unwell. I hope the actor is okay.

Justin is goinh to edge Kirsty out of the rewilding, isn't he?

muddyford · 14/06/2025 10:58

Just heard, on the Trooping of the Colour, one of the soldiers has just become a father to Brodie.

Bruisername · 14/06/2025 14:58

Helen is a legit bunny boiler

agree it’s odd that Phoebe wasn’t spending time with her siblings

BeatriceBatchelor · 14/06/2025 16:15

A BOOP for the tremor in Kristy’s voice when she was congratulating Phoebe.

I so much want Kirsty & Rex to get together and adopt young siblings.

Bruisername · 14/06/2025 16:19

Yes - perhaps near jacks age and they will become friends and do something really naughty which was jacks fault but will be blamed on the ‘troubled’ adopted kid and Kirsty and Helen will fall out

BeatriceBatchelor · 14/06/2025 17:26

No! Whenever adoption is mentioned on MN, posters who have not adopted insist that all adopted children are troubled and have issues now or will have further down the line. I know this isn't true and would like my experience to be reflected in a TA storyline.
