Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

I hope that she has given Emma a huge chunk of money. I doubt it, but it would be very entertaining.

DeanElderberry · 15/05/2025 17:53

Thank you @KnittedFerret , that is very kind. I actually have quite a lot of earrings, so you don't have to die just to save me from unadorned lobes.

But I feel sad when people seem to use the idea of inheritance to buy attention or compliance. With the exception of Peggy Wooley using her tentacles from beyond the grave, that would be fun.

Eastie77Returns · 15/05/2025 18:00

It’s odd that they know so soon. DF passed away in December and left his estate to his 3 children (me and 2 siblings). Our solicitor has only just got around to submitting the IHT paperwork and we still don’t know exactly how much we will receive.

I’m a bit bemused that the Accountant (and why the Accountant rather than a solicitor) chose to send an email simultaneously to the beneficiaries so late in the evening with that kind of information.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 15/05/2025 18:03

I really hope that Peggy has divided her estate unequally. It’ll be so boring if she’s just run out of money. There’s so much potential if she’s left it all to Kate or whoever so we have the fall out with Helen and Tom.

KnittedFerret · 15/05/2025 18:05

Sorry for your loss @Eastie77Returns .

Maybe the emails were the work of a scammer.

Godesstobe · 15/05/2025 18:15

My mother has no earrings to bequeath because she has no earlobes, absolutely none. (We were vastly amused as children to discover in a Victorian book on physiognomy that the absence of earlobes is an infallible means of identifying a murderer.)

EBearhug · 15/05/2025 18:22

I can understand checking the will immediately, in case there are funeral requests, but it's weird to have sorted out the money so quickly - I'm not sure we had registered the death and got the death certificates to start taking to the bank etc - and they need to see an official copy of the will. And my parents' wills were very straight forward on account of having just enough to cover the funerals and that's about it, what there was was divided between my sister and me. Even if Peggy's money ran out and there's not much to leave, it's still getting split between more people and that alone makes it trickier. But it's the timeliness alone which are unrealistic.

Bruisername · 15/05/2025 18:32

Just listened to last nights. More Welsh!!

I liked the escape room scenes. It was nice to hear the usual cast back!! And Brian/tony too!!

bit of an odd family night out without pat! I’m surprised Joy wasn’t available for babysitting

the email from the executor was odd

tony and Brian had the same unusual text alert

KnittedFerret · 15/05/2025 18:43

It was only the name of a book, which Welsh Pat was reading to The Girls.

In Y Gryffalo, does sgarff rhyme with jiráff?

KnittedFerret · 15/05/2025 18:51

Sorry if I've misled anyone. The book Welsh Pat was reading was Y Lindysyn Llwglyd Iawn.

EBearhug · 15/05/2025 18:56

Welsh is written phonetically, so if you know the alphabet, it's okay. I can read all sorts of Wesh out loud, though quite often I have no idea what it means (as proved in this week's Welsh class...)

Bruisername · 15/05/2025 19:09

The implication is that she is trying to bring the girls up with some Welsh speaking which we had been discussing upthread

Bruisername · 15/05/2025 19:15

Natural artwork - interesting!!

I love that Peggy didn’t want Alan! That’s totally in character. And I love the other vicar being called Crispin. Alan being a bit petulant too!

I wish Rex would stop moaning but Lynda was manipulative and not nice

Bruisername · 15/05/2025 19:17

And love the closing chat between tash and Helen. This is going to be fun!!

I'm enjoying the archers for the first time in a long time

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/05/2025 19:28

It's about time Natasha discovered Tom's extensive borrowing: she can use it as a reply if he ever complains about hers.

@EBearhug , Don't you need to learn the diphthongs, and the sounds you don't get in English?

Y Lindysyn Llwglyd Iawn.ppt

DCat found it fascinating, and I spotted a typo/spelling mistake.

Ooh, I like this. Helen at her best! Grin

Excellent, when it gets to next week's class, and we're asked what we've read, I can say something other than BBC news. (Actually, I read a couple of poems, too.)

Yes to the diphthongs, but they're still consistent once you know, and I'm guessing Pat did some Welsh at school, if nothing else.

Meanwhile, the vicar reminded me we had 3 vicars involved with various parts of Dad's funeral, and while there was only one officiating at Mum's, there were others attending. I realise we might be unusual.

DeanElderberry · 15/05/2025 19:45

Alan must know Crispin, surely? Two clerics of the same denomination working in the same part of the same Diocese - I can't imagine their not having met fairly regularly.

I was wondering that @EBearhug , it would be very common in Ireland to have several priests involved in funerals (all organised in two or three days, too).

If it’s a specific bequest, you can know about this as soon as the Will is opened. It’s only the Residuary estate that is imprecise. So when my DPs died, they left each grandchild £500 each. Because the entire estate was much larger, it was obvious they would get that. There were also a few other known bequests. As the DCs, me and my siblings got the Residue, and this came through in bits and pieces, although it was quite a long time before we got anything at all.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/05/2025 20:00

So the bulk will go to Lilian and Tony (and Jenny's children?) as Peggy decided after the last legacy kerfuffle.
P&T will no doubt commission their passive-aggressive haus and then Helen and Tomasha can be at each other's throats over who gets the farmhouse

thank you for that!
turns out I can recall the very hungry caterpillar word for word in English, when prompted by the pictures, pretty good after 30 years!
