Series 1, Episode 1 - Abu Dhabi. Not sure how many series they are going to schedule.

BBC Radio 4 - Cabin Pressure, Series 1, Abu Dhabi

A cat, a thermostat and Bristol combine in the ups and downs of a tiny charter airline.

Norwich

The lemon is in play.

Every now and then DH and I will turn to each other, adopt a serious mien, and say, "Hey... Chief..."

Ipswich is the episode which nearly caused DH to drive off the road laughing, but my personal favourite is St Petersburg, especially the conversation between Douglas and Martin in the cockpit after the goose strike because it says so much so subtly about how they've both changed, and also how protective everyone is of Arthur against his awful dad.

ladymalfoy45 · 08/01/2025 20:50

Clear nail varnish.

Beebsta · 08/01/2025 20:59

I loved Cabin pressure! By far the funniest thing I have ever listened to. Enjoy!

Turophilic · 08/01/2025 21:03

DS1 recited some Qikiqtarjuaq dialogue to me from memory and I was in hopeless giggles again.

"Q-without-a-U" and "Les Bears Polare"... Classic.

Thank you so much for this.

I've listened to the first episode again today. Arthur's contribution to Brian's of Britain coincided with the car slipping on ice and me almost crashing the car into the kerb Grin

DontCallMeBaby · 08/01/2025 21:40

Fun fact - it sadly didn’t make it into the Apple TV series, but there’s a game of Yellow Car in the fourth Slow Horses book (apparently Mick Herron is a fan).

Fave episode - Ottery St Mary. Recently said at work I couldn’t even imagine 5,000 teaspoons and colleague responded it was only 50 per otter, so how hard could it be?

HerculesTheBerkules · 08/01/2025 22:34

Brilliant!

cariadlet · 08/01/2025 22:50

Did anyone watch the YouTube videos that Arthur posted in Lockdown?

They were brilliant!

I know what you mean! And I agree it's just the best radio comedy ever. John Finnemore's writing is brilliant! (See what I did there).
I have all series plus Molakai on audible and relisten often.
This was the first year my dd was not at home on Christmas morning as she's moved out. But I knew I'd done a sound job parenting when she messaged me first thing Christmas morning "Get dressed you merry gentlemen!"

I really hope you enjoy it @Lottapianos !

My two have sung this at us every Christmas morning for the past two years.

As my name might suggest, it’s a favourite of mine (and my bassoon). The whole family loves it, especially DS - he has T-shirts stating “here I am don’t tread on me” and “always playing yellow car.” Just this evening he alerted DH to a “possible storm warning” after catching me swearing at a stuck kitchen drawer.

Every week! And we did all the challenges/puzzles etc.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 09/01/2025 00:08

Thanks. Haven't listened to them in ages, shall enjoy doing so.

For those who didn't read them at the time, Mr Finnemore wrote little blog posts for each one.
This is Abu Dhabi - if you scroll down to the bottom past the comments full of spam and use the pointy button you can go all the way through to Zurich.

I love this blogpost that he wrote while procrastinating early on. It became the idea for… well, you’ll see! johnfinnemore.blogspot.com/2008/05/i-am-supposed-to-be-writing-sitcom.html?m=1

DreadPirateRobots · 10/01/2025 07:55

Haha wooooow he must have been so gratified when he realised he could use his otter-related procrastination for his actual sitcom

cakeorwine · 15/01/2025 22:45

We could go to Bristol, I believe people do.

You'll like Bristol. It's got a suspension bridge.

DS and I use a lot of Cabin Pressure lines in our conversations.

Miloarmadillo2 · 15/01/2025 22:51

At least 50% of what my family say to one another consists of a Cabin pressure reference. Long car journeys are measured in terms of ‘how many episodes’? It is pure genius.

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2025 23:10

Boston is available now, I'll look forward to listening to that tomorrow

I listened to it yesterday in my way home from work. It's the only thing that makes me honk with laughter. God knows what the other drivers thought I was up to Grin

I wonder what the cause of death would have revealed on the autopsy?
And Easy Jet missed out on Martin!

ItIsEverywhere · 16/01/2025 07:55

I didn't realise it wasn't generally available - I totally binged it via public library e-audiobooks (worth a check if you have a service).
Now I want to listen again!

There's a podcast with questionably legal copies of all the episodes.

This is an important message for people hoping to travel to Nottingham: Raise. Your. Ambitions.

OnlyWhenILaugh · 17/01/2025 07:27

I saw him in Brighton yesterday evening and the show was indeed brilliant!

It was a lovely relaxed show, just him and Lawry Lewin doing sketches from the Souvenir Programme plus an episode of Double Act. Very funny and John himself was just as warm and funny as you'd expect. Thanks again @peppermintgreengrass for the heads up.
If any fans live near Oxford it looks like there are still some tickets for the matinee tomorrow. I'd thoroughly recommend.
