Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you fancy Mucky Mick, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

The scars from Scambridge week will take some healing. Most of us felt we were the ones scammed - where was The Archers we know and (very occasionally) love?

Anyway, onwards and - almost certainly not - upwards. Will it be the best Christmas ever in Ambridge? Do we still care? Over to you!

I'm wondering if/when La Rochelle meets Kate. Kate will suss her out (even if she was implausibly clueless about Freetown Christiania) and whatever cult she's escaped/been evicted from.

Bruisername · 31/12/2024 15:25

Rex’s party sounds horrific. I would not want to be in a gazebo next to the torrents of the Am in December

Ficklemind · 31/12/2024 15:41

Sounds like people will need to wear wellies to Rex's party as well as warm clothes.
Is there a mooring platform by his boat or a walk through a field?

Are we going to have some NYE drama tonight with Rochelle at the party?
Joy's commented to Rochelle 'Is that wise?' when she said she was going, perhaps all will be revealed tonight in a drunken outburst.

Bruisername · 31/12/2024 16:00

Maybe Joy will fall in the am and we’ll be done with her. Rochelle can have the house

DeanElderberry · 31/12/2024 16:23

I want to see Pat and Tony comfortably installed in a Huf Haus or similar prefabricated passive bungalow that is blissfully comfortable, much better than the farmhouse or the other place, and for them to flourish there (possibly with Johnny) for another 30 years. And to spend all their money buying it.

Bruisername · 31/12/2024 16:27

And for the boiler and oven to break down shortly free Helen takes possession of the farmhouse

KnittedFerret · 31/12/2024 16:38

Broomhall was but Sunningdale wasn't.
They did, but did the partnership decide on how the assets were owned?
@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

I'd be quite happy for Rosh-hell and Mucky Mick to flow down the mighty Am never to return.

(Someone might say they were from somewhere more impressive or more well-known than the actual village they were from.)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/12/2024 17:16

KnittedFerret
Broomhall was but Sunningdale wasn't.

The civil parish of Sunningdale included and for all I know still includes Broomhall, even after Windsor subsumed both of them.

Listeners' fears confirmed after character fell off roof in 60th anniversary episode

14 years! How quickly time flies when you're having fun. Hmm

Idiotic decision to kill Nigel off. Totally agree with those above lamenting the shift away from Home Farm too.

Yes it was short sighted - as was Brian and Jenny losing the house. The potential long term consequences of his death/losing house have not been as good as the consequences had they not happened

KnittedFerret · 31/12/2024 18:27

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime , Think what you like.

KnittedFerret · 31/12/2024 19:23

Happy New Year Ambridge!

KnittedFerret · 31/12/2024 19:30

I can't believe the party went with such a splash. That Mick must have been a big bloke. And Joy. I had no idea she was like that. Like a complete character change. Shock

Ficklemind · 31/12/2024 19:45

I enjoyed that episode.
Happy New Year fellow addicts! 🥳🍾🥂🥂

Gonners · 31/12/2024 20:00

Yes, that was quite entertaining - okay, so I'm not a very demanding listener these days (that way lies madness) and my expectations are low, but at least it moved the Joy/Rochelle plot on, though possibly deception/downright lies was/were involved.

And the Hannah/Neil/Susan scene made a change. I suspect I'm in the minority in that I quite like Hannah.

WagnersFourthSymphony · 31/12/2024 20:05

I may be misremembering, and there have been a few gaps in my listening, so didn't Neil and Hannah get off to a rocky start? That is clearly resolved now.

Nice to have a bit of piggery for a change, though it baffles me why they don't padlock the gates if there's no ROW.

Gonners · 31/12/2024 20:23

Yes, though I think Neil and Hannah's problems may have been resolved by his recognition that she was right about George's sausage roll wrapper.

Yogaandchocolate · 31/12/2024 21:14

Delurking to ask if anyone else thought Neil was going to be a goner this episode (when he went off to get the sow, and later the extra wine)? Maybe I’m just still traumatised by Nigel’s New Year’s death!

Ficklemind · 31/12/2024 21:32

Yes I did Yoga when Neil went in the kitchen to get another bottle of wine, very glad he didn't!

WombatCowgirl · 31/12/2024 22:58

I also thought there would be a crash of bottles from the kitchen ( glad to be wrong!).

JanglyBeads · 31/12/2024 22:58

What's that about Mick being a big bloke?? Don't get that post at all, sorry.

So we now know Mr Joy walked out and Joy had a breakdown, which she obviously got good treatment for at some later stage, otherwise she wouldn't have been so good with Ben. R presumably went off the rails... leading eventually to her children being removed, at least by Benny. She does not sound very maternal.
Happy New Year all! (Please don't take offence at each other, life is too short.)!

Nettleteaser101 · 01/01/2025 05:40

I still don't care about Rochelle and I think she is very immature. You would think after all this time she would have Told her mum whats been happening, but as I have said before Joy needs to back off with the questions. I think Joy would like to see the back of her again incase she does say something Joy doesn't want anyone to know.
The party sounded cold and muddy.
Happy New Year all.

JanFebAndOnwards · 01/01/2025 07:09

Good point above about Kate sussing Rosh-hell out when and if they meet.

I also thought there would be a crash of bottles from the kitchen ( glad to be wrong!).

And I thought that too.
