Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that Clive sounds deeply misunderstood, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Fete over, cricket season over - can the Flower and Produce show be far behind? I don't think I've heard a mention of it this year. Have I not been paying attention?

In any real village, preparations for the Christmas show would already be under way, but not in Ambridge, of course. I am probably in a minority of one in regretting this.

With any luck, though, by Christmas this incredibly protracted tale of Alice, George and the crash will be behind us at last. Do we think Clive's really gone? I don't believe it. We won't be rid of him that easily. Will he go to the police himself? Will he attempt to blackmail his family or extort money from the Aldridges in return for information that would secure Alice's acquittal? Do we care? I find I don't really, unfortunately. I did enjoy hearing Clive for those few brief exchanges but I've had enough now. Unrelieved nastiness is not really what I want from TA.

Over to you!

If he loses his job because of a violent assault she certainly won't be happy about it.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 16:55

she certainly wouldn’t be visiting him in prison!!

but I think a violent assault won’t happen now

fingers crossed he went onto the computer when he overheard charges were being dropped and that’s how he loses his job, and then marriage

David Archer turns 65 later this month. At what point will he start planning for retirement?
Jill will be 94 in October - at what point will there be a story around her health? (I know they've already done a cataracts story)
I know Auntie Christine is now a silent character, but they'll have to kill her off at some point; she must be in her nineties, too.
Surely there will be a Brookfield storyline around one of the above soon, although I suppose Auntie Christine's death won't make much impact.

And for that matter, Peggy Wooley is only a couple of months off her 100th birthday. Are they going to celebrate it with Peggy as a silent character? They can't ignore it.

I might have missed it, but was there any passing reference to Grace Archer, or "this episode is dedicated to" at the end of an episode, after the Actress who played her passed away in July?

Ysanne Churchman: The Archers star whose storyline shocked nation dies age 99

Ysanne Churchman's character Grace was controversially killed off on the same night as the launch of ITV.

Bruisername
but I think a violent assault won’t happen now

I think it already has, and on air.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 17:34

Did he touch him? He was certainly threatening but I was only half listening

GuestFeatu · 10/09/2024 17:42

I can't wait to hear Fallon lose her temper and tell Harrison she wouldn't have kept ma bebbeh anyway if she hadn't miscarried, a point that doesn't seem to have occurred to PC Plod so far...

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 17:50

She did imply it and from the weedy whimpers he made it seemed he got the point

She mentioned it once and he was horrified. Of course she'd have had a TOP.

You don't actually have to lay a finger on someone for threatening behaviour towards them (which it certainly was) and violent abuse of them (which it certainly was) to be an assault on them.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 18:31

Interesting. Well if he loses his job all the better!!

i do think if he had actually thumped George then Fallon would definitely end it

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/09/2024 18:33

I suspect that going into George's home premises to do it would make the offence just a little worse, too.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 18:35

Would it help or hinder George’s reputation in the village if he were to report Harrison?

LillianGish · 10/09/2024 18:36

Jill will be 94 in October - at what point will there be a story around her health? I think this might be part of the reason it's all gone a bit quiet at Brookfield - it must be getting increasingly awkward to write round Jill's absence because in reality she would be so present with family fussing round her. Patricia Green sounds increasingly frail, but it feels as if the SWs are reluctant to kill off any characters prematurely or write in any illness or declining health unless it happens off stage (which is fine once characters are retired to The Laurels, but harder if they are meant to be at home). Jenny's death felt premature in comparison with all the other oldies who are waiting in the wings, but at least a decision was taken instead of trying write unrealistically around the absence of a key character. These are the characters who should be axed in a Hollyoaks cull to allow the new generations to move forward, move up the seniority line, fight over inheritances and generally move on.

ClockwiseHoneysuckle · 10/09/2024 18:50

Perhaps the loss of Harrison’s beybe, having forced him the face up to how much he really wants to become a father, will eventually result in him fathering a brother or sister for Martha.

Nooo, even Alice doesn't deserve that. Surely it would drive her straight back to the bottle?

Mind you, she could then be driven to murdering Harrison because he'd go bonkers over the prospect of her drinking potentially harming the precious Baybe. With any luck she'd get away with justifiable homicide, or manslaughter under extreme provocation.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 18:54

I’m sure his boss would be a defence witness

Oh god Bad Lieutenant Harrison and Alice making up as Bestest Friends last night was so cringe.

He's going to go rogue sperminator isn't he

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 19:15

I really don’t need to hear about Brads early days at uni and wish he had gone away for uni!

At least they talked about George - would have been weird otherwise

cant believe how they are decorating Jim’s house to be more ‘Denise and Alastair’ - a feature wall? Sounds awful. ANd why should jim have his room crowded up in his house!! Sending Robert round was odd - just to discuss litter again? Alastair totally out of order

fallon was spot on - he totally makes it about him!! He’s finally realised he’s a shit police officer - so now he’s quitting. Is this to ease them into the pub?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/09/2024 19:37

He definitely isn't fit to run a pub, with his anger management issues.

KeepBritainTidy · 10/09/2024 19:40

Fallon, ask Alice who her divorce lawyer was.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 19:49

I’m sure the anger issues will mysteriously disappear…

... once he's got Fallon up-duffed.

Bruisername · 10/09/2024 19:51

Worst case scenario - he quits his job and decides he’s going to help Fallon in her vegan venture

a couple of hours before his ‘I’m not cut out to be a policeman’ whine, Fallon had been telling him all the bad things that would happen if he were sacked. So his natural reaction is ‘why wait for that to happen, I’ll do it myself!’

And what about Rosie’s sunflower? She will go full uniKitty.
