Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more of Harrison's strange little moaning noises, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @OverArmour for the title suggestion!

Over to you.

Chocolate digestives I think and perhaps Custard Creams. I haven’t eaten one of those in years.

It seems from Joy’s drooling over John that he is very athletic and good looking as many suspected. Just makes Denise’s pursuit of Alistair even more incomprehensible.

I assume from Jazzer's reference to 'the chocolate ones' that they were pondering a brand of biscuits that come in chocolate and non-chocolate varieties, my money would be on HobNobs. I agree. You can get non-chocolate Digestives but only a masochist would eat those.

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/07/2024 09:42

Damn. New thread

DeanElderberry · 11/07/2024 09:56

@MereDintofPandiculation, I have responded to your error - nay, your heresy - on the new thread.

I assume from Jazzer's reference to 'the chocolate ones' that they were pondering a brand of biscuits that come in chocolate and non-chocolate varieties, my money would be on HobNobs.

Of course, it could be that he was just eyeing up chocolate biscuits in general, but I choose to think not.

I got the impression Denise picked several different packets. It would make sense for them to have a few in stock at the surgery. Did she go back for them after ending her marriage?

Indeed. These are the big picture questions that we need answers to. I can live with the tension about the marriage surviving or not, but there are some threads that just need resolution.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 11/07/2024 14:52

The biscuits were far more interesting than Deni-stare, Pall and the doomed Palletienne saga, and I say that as a creature unmotivated by biscuits.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 12/07/2024 11:05

This isn't the latest thread. Completely unrelated to biscuits, or the main thread, so I'll post here.

Earlier this week, I was at a party where there was a free bar (Wehey!). I lapped up a couple of G&Ts (large ones obviously - Lilian would be proud), others were drinking cocktails, shots, beers, sambuca, tequilas etc. Food was good too. I wolfed down lots of veggies and vege/vegan food before waddling off home.
Very happy occasion - 3 lions on a shirt...it's coming home...vindaloo, vindaloo

One of the crowd was voluntarily drinking - der der deh - Fruit Cider. Voluntarily! Confused

LikeTalkingToLassie · 12/07/2024 12:07

On the main thread, @CaptainMyCaptain is right about them Lotus biscuits. Horrible scratchy cat's tongues as my human calls them. Cat's tongues. 🐱
If they were worth eating then they'd be the dog's bollox wouldn't they.
Speaking of which, that George Grundy seem to think he's the dog's bollocks.
It's about time he was taken down a peg or two. Him, his mum and his nan will have egg on their faces. Serve them right.

Come on Uncle Chris. Piece together the mystery of the fruit cider bottle.

I don't think Denise went back for the biscuits. Joy would have taken them to the vet's surgery. She's nice like that.
Ambridge women seem to discard their spouses/partners quite easily.

Gonners · 12/07/2024 12:13

@LikeTalkingToLassie Ambridge women seem to discard their spouses/partners quite easily.

When you look at their spouses/partners, who can blame them? NB - this also applies to Ambridge men.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 12/07/2024 12:43

Oh come on. The discarded men seem OK to me, or at least they're not awful.
Shula & Alistair
Helen & Lee
Alice & Chris
Denise & John
Emma & Will (for Ed)
Pip & Toby
...

Gonners · 12/07/2024 13:18

Alistair - dull and wet
Lee - wet to the point of practically liquid
Chris - he's fine; shame about Alice, eh?
John - seems okay so far, but Denise is ghastly
Will - formerly psycho and now thinks he's a leading financier
Ed - poor Ed. Seriously dim and henpecked by 'Orrible Em.
Toby - not awful? Really? Narrow escape from Pip, though.

EBearhug · 12/07/2024 14:13

Rex?

Gonners · 12/07/2024 15:37

Is Rex one of the discarded men? I can't remember him ever having a girlfriend. But then I can barely remember him at all!

iratepirate · 12/07/2024 15:50

Rex had the vet last who moved away but pined after Pip for a while.
nisha? Anisha?

Gonners · 12/07/2024 16:04

Oh yes. Sorry, Anisha, but you made little impression on me. Was she the person who invested a load of money in what was then Alistair's practice and then wanted it repaid when she left, and that's how he ended up selling out to Lovell James (clearly a nationwide estate agency firm)?

LikeTalkingToLassie · 12/07/2024 16:05

Poor Rex was dumped by Anisha the vet.
The women who get dumped are Cursedy and Hannah.

It does sound like an estate agents. The ones round here have single word names, along the lines of Skeldale or Scunthorpe Veterinary Surgery. The grooming shops have more inventive names. -doodles and -poos are de rigeur here.

BerylBillings · 12/07/2024 16:28

Preferable to Gigglechopz Dog Wash (in Seattle) 🤔

LikeTalkingToLassie · 12/07/2024 16:47

What would Chelsea Horrobin call her hair salon, if she had one? Please don't say Curl Up and Dye because that makes me cringe.

Jimmyspiano · 12/07/2024 19:15

Choccyp1g · 09/07/2024 00:54

What I'd like is for Alice to work out that George was driving, but for her to accept responsibility for the accident, and plead guilty anyway, and not tell anyone what really happened.

The plot ramifications could last years, and save us from more boring boat rocking mmm-ing.

I love this idea. It would be awesome if Alice pleaded guilty and then told only George and Emma that she knows exactly what George did. She promises not to tell anyone, but holds it over them both for years. Can you imagine Emma struggling to reconcile her view of Alice as an entitled little rich girl who does not deserve all of her good fortune and the fact that Alice kept her precious son out of prison.

LikeTalkingToLassie · 12/07/2024 19:21

I want justice for Alice. Alice will have a hold over the Grundys regardless. The one punished would be Marthyr.
Denistare is so dull. Bored of Pip and Stella. Why no woof-woofs doof-doofs?
