I suspect this is one of those exaggerated crises and the new arrivals causing chaos are something like goats that keep escaping.

Gonners · 10/11/2024 18:13

Maybe Khalil has got his chickens and Hilda has slaughtered them?

Bruisername · 10/11/2024 18:41

Or Azras husband is leaving her

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/11/2024 02:23

Something big is happening....

It's Satanists.
They're gathering as Henwee (the Spawn of Satan, for those of us who remember), starts to come into his powers.
Hence the advent of the goat, with it's evil letterbox-pupil eyes. It's name will be Baphomet.

Much as I would enjoy the scenario dangled so temptingly above, I feel a sense of immense weariness at the words 'the collective nightmare continues'. Can we please just go back to change-counting?

Calling Asking: When did rewilding start?

Was it 7 years ago? I seem to remember that it all kicked off during the first lockdown so there ought to be a fair sized inheritance tax bill to pay?

I seem to remember that Peggy gave them £1/2m and some land, so that will be going to put a big spanner in the works for the rewilding trust?

I do hope they remember Peggy's 100th birthday. I can't believe that the Laurels would let it pass without a party and local dignitaries present.

Sorry; I've been away.

Christmas 2019 or thenabouts, having been awarded the prize in September 2019, so it was just before Covid.

The trust she set up to administer her charity gave them I think it was 60% of £500,000 as son as they had 60% of the land they needed. Whether they ever ended up with 100% of what they'd projected in their proposal I have no idea.

I too hope Peggy's birthday on 13th is signalised, in spite of June's death.

Kirsty mentioned the 5-year lease coming up for renewal.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/11/2024 20:59

At the time the agreement between Borchester Land and Rewilding Ambridge was signed, there was no lease and there was no rent to be paid. The synopses were clear about it being a share-farming agreement with BL providing the land, RA providing the labour, and BL getting 75% of the profits. No timeline was mentioned, either.

Lowfield for Friday 29th November, 2019
They’ve been offered 270 acres and will be able to meet Peggy’s Christmas deadline. Justin was impressed by their presentation and the groundwork that the group had put in. However, he insists that no announcement be made until the contract has been drawn up and signed. Rex and Phoebe agree willingly. The toast is “Re-Wilding Ambridge.” Glasses clink. He then adds the final part of the deal. It will of course need to be subject to terms of agreement. The atmosphere cools perceptibly. Phoebe asks for clarification. Well, continues Justin, the nature of the deal has changed. It’s not just a straight forward land rental but has become a Share Farming Agreement, a joint venture. Phoebe asks again for clarification. Justin explains that as BL will be putting in the largest stake, this must be reflected. As they won’t be taking an annual rent they will of course require a share in any future profit. “75% seems reasonable, wouldn’t you say?”.

BBC Summary:
Later, Justin meets Rex and Phoebe at The Bull to reveal the board’s decision: they've decided to loan them two hundred and seventy acres. Justin explains, however, that the agreement is subject to terms. It will be a share farming arrangement. Instead of charging rent, BL want seventy five percent of any profit generated.

Now, mysteriously, there was a five-year lease and the rent has been reduced.

Bruisername · 11/11/2024 21:44

How on earth does the rewilding make a profit?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/11/2024 22:34

It doesn't. A lot of people remarked on this five years ago!

Bruisername · 11/11/2024 22:35

Well the dw clearly have absolutely zero knowledge of economic affairs so perhaps it’s best they don’t touch the nmw and nic increase

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/11/2024 23:03

What's your DW got to do with TA?

Bruisername · 12/11/2024 07:57

Isn’t it awful when autocorrect knows all the mn acronyms!! Meant sw

WhoppingBigBackside · 12/11/2024 09:04

Don't worry, I knew what you meant. Just being light-hearted.

Samphire44 · 13/11/2024 09:32

I'm a bit worried about all these new arrivals -
Faith, Chuck, Ellie and Joel, a third of the cast list, do people think it will be David and Ruth taking stock? Anyone know of any American relatives?

The week before I am wondering if Fallon has been offered to set up her cafe at the Bull. That might explain the instant regret and overpromising.

Bruisername · 13/11/2024 09:41

Introducing a whole new family like that with those names (apologies to anyone with those names) would be quite jarring

perhaps they have bought the lodge?

I don’t think we need new characters - just better writing of the existing

Samphire44 · 13/11/2024 09:44

They are all quite well known actors as well. I am inclined to think they are only in Ambridge for a short visit to drop some sort of bombshell.

Withdrawn at poster's request.

TottersBlankly · 13/11/2024 10:57

Yes … If they’re famous actors they won’t be there long term.

But they must surely only be interacting with the families in the cast that week - so Brookfield or Grange Farm Grundys? Maybe Kate alone? Jim, Jakob, Jazzer doesn’t suggest a particular house.

Gonners · 13/11/2024 13:30

Faith, Chuck, Ellie and Joel are (not "and) obviously beaver names.

TottersBlankly · 13/11/2024 13:31

Beavers with voices?

TottersBlankly · 13/11/2024 13:31

Beavers with voices?

Tut! They'll be voicing the beavers' thoughts ... though if Paddington Bear can speak, why not beavers?

I think Chuck definitely sounds like a good name for a beaver 🦫

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/11/2024 03:07

Chuck actor is American.
Beaver-wrangler perhaps?

TottersBlankly · 14/11/2024 08:02

What is Oliver’s current thought about selling Grange Farm? (IIRC it was his previous mention of the possibility that prompted the senior Grundys to investigate almshouses?) He isn’t in that week’s cast himself, but is there a chance the oddly named family might be prospective house buyers looking over Grange Farm house?

Anyway - if they’re not beavers they must surely be people whose visit to Ambridge causes a profound change of mind or conclusion of decision making for a resident in that week’s cast.
