Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to have your fortune told by Bartleby, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thread thrown together in great haste in advance of tonight's episode. Who's in the Am? Is it George's fault? Is this the end for Alice? Over to you!

I hope not. It would be nice for once to see people being happy without children, rather than it always being the case that they “settle down and realise a baby is what will make them truly happy and complete”.

I agree with you, but the SW may not.
Or maybe she was already pregnant but miscarried because of the shock and Harrison takes the law into his own hands in revenge.

DeanElderberry · 06/05/2024 20:02

a dashcam or a person? In my experience you only really see who is in the front of a car in the dark if you're passing them quite slowly and can look in after you've passed the headlamps.

If they’d swerved sideways to get back on their side of the road the headlights wouldn’t be blocking the view.

nifty he said.

Thanks! So I don't definitely remember little.

Well this is the most exciting archers SL for a while and I have no one else to discuss it with so thank you all!

sw may even be forgiven for the rob nonsense and the unbelievable henry

I think it was 'nifty little' so I wasn't picturing a big Volvo or anything like that.

Shocked that he moved her, you can't do that, it's not on

Indeed!

Eastie77Returns · 06/05/2024 20:17

Just remembered that in the episode earlier this week when George treated Emma and Will to dinner, he was boasting about his new phone and Will said something like “I wouldn’t know what to do with a phone like that, I haven’t even worked out how to pick up messages on my one” Hmmm.

Hate to sound morbid but secondary drowning is a thing so there’s no guarantee yet that Fallon, Joy and Mick are actually ok.

Why didn’t A&D go for dinner at the posh hotel? Plus Joy mentioned Denise bought an expensive bottle of wine for the ‘friend’ she was spending the evening with so it’s baffling that they chose to go to a restaurant at all, I assumed they’d be heading straight for their room!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 06/05/2024 20:21

Plot device required Alastair and Denise to be there so their affair becomes public.

For the moment plot device didn't specifically require Fallon, Joy and Mick to be the victims.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/05/2024 20:22

Good shout! If George remembers that and he can get to Will’s phone in time, he could easily delete it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/05/2024 20:23

I heard that too . As if Will was in his 80s not a young man. I can see the relevance now you point it out.

DeanElderberry · 06/05/2024 20:24

Will Joy (assuming she isn't crippled for life) blame herself because she sold Alice all that vodka?

MereDintofPandiculation · 06/05/2024 20:26

TheUsualChaos · 06/05/2024 19:51

So Joy was in front passenger seat. So possibly even more likely she would have clocked the driver. I think the person driving would be too focused on reacting to notice details. She might have seen George at the last second.

It’s night time. You can’t see anything beyond the headlights. - ah, sorry @BrightYellowDaffodil, that kills that.

George is a revolting misogynistic scrote interested only in his own welfare. So why do I want him to come out OK from this? Is it because I want him to be the agent in his own downfall?

Yes. Without question.

Merrymerrymerry · 06/05/2024 20:29

So… to summarise the predictions:
Joy in a coma which leads to outing of her secret past
Alice faces the blame, loses custody
Fallon suffers PTSD and Harrison seeks revenge
Will has to lie for George?
The truth will out — so in the end George will face the music/be forced to — but by then it might be too late for Alice?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/05/2024 20:37

Sounds about right. I'm very worried that this is going to have a terrible effect on Brian, my favourite character by a country mile.

Yes but this is The Archer's, we don't need to worry about logical details like headlight glare 😉

Sussurations · 06/05/2024 20:40

Re Mick driving Joy & Fallon, Joy specifically told someone (it might even have been Fallon) that Mick didn’t like the kind of music the band played but had promised to drop her off and pick her up.

Although George is to blame, there are worse things that could happen to Alice than taking the blame for this. It is one hell of a wake up call.

Godesstobe · 06/05/2024 20:42

My final prediction: George will be seriously injured while engaged in tree surgery and as he lies dying in his orange Ultimate Arboriculture fleece he will confess all.

muddyford · 06/05/2024 20:43

You could nearly hear Denise salivating over Alistair in his wet clothes...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/05/2024 20:44

I wonder what Denise's cover story was.

I agree that someone of Will’s age would know how to read/listen to messages on his phone. I’d imagine he has a fairly basic smartphone. But…plot device.

I wonder if George left a WhatsApp voice note rather than voicemail. There is an option “Delete for Everyone” on WhatsApp and that will remove the message from Will’s chat box as long as the message hasn’t been delivered yet (single grey tick). So if Wills phone was switched off or the connection in the cottage isn’t great George may be in luck…

Fink · 06/05/2024 20:48

BeaRF75 · 06/05/2024 19:46

Brian survived (for now) - thank God! But George is a little sh*t moving Alice back into the driving seat. And dim to boot, because anyone with any sense would just have phoned her dad when they found her, not attempt to drive her home.
So does Will dob in George after listening to the voicemail?
None of this explains why Ruairi is coming home tho......

🤔What's Ruairi got to do with it? He hasn't been mentioned as coming home, has he? Except jokingly when Brian and Miranda were talking about whether they were going to be swamped by any more of the children. I don't think Brian is actually expecting him.

Merrymerrymerry · 06/05/2024 20:48

Yes a voice note would be more age appropriate!
