FILL THE OLD THREAD UP FIRST! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4902507-archers-thread-154-cider-with-fat-rosie-meadow-rise-to-candleford-or-the-darling-horrobins-of-september-get-your-rural-saga-fix-discuss-the-archers-here?page=10

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more scenes in the abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Lots of lively discussion about Brad's university aspirations and the Open Day on the last thread. Do you want him to end up at Felpersham or do you want him to spread his wings and go further afield? Where will Mia go?

Will this thread see the end of Rob, or do we have many weeks more before his long overdue demise?

What's going on at Grey Gables? Are they running into financial trouble? Will we hear from Roy, who I had forgotten was working there until he was mentioned the other day? Who are the mysterious 'Owners'? Will the locum GP turn out to be Adil's sister, as we have been surmising since she first spoke? Why's she been conjured up?

Talking of the GP, I'm hoping against hope we're not in for bad news about Jim's mole.

Praying that we're going to get a long and much-needed break from hearing P*p. Not praying that we hear Rob being christened. Who would be his sponsor, as someone commented on the last thread? Harrison? Surely that would be a conflict of interest. Can't see who else would do it locally.

I wonder how Ben is getting on now he's back on his nursing degree? Will we ever hear anything about Lily's course, or how Freddie's getting on at the abattoir?

So many questions! Over to you for some answers and boundless speculation.

Oh lord. Do we think Pip may morph to a they at some point?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/10/2023 18:31

Or a ver.

I love that this is a common trait then! They are great dogs.

They are lovable little monkeys.

Bruisername · 19/10/2023 19:16

well that was resolved quickly. What was the word!!! Maybe I’m just blasé about bad language but I can’t think of anything that shocking. Henry seems very emotionless and robotic - unlike in earlier scenes. Definitely needs to talk to someone outside of the family to get it all out!! Maybe some more time with Alan.

Lee definitely on the way out.

i guess the sw have forgotten the age of the button sisters

My guess would be the c word. I can't think of anything else in the intersection between being offensive enough to shock and being common enough for a 12 year old to spontaneously think of it (although I suppose it has yet to be proved that Henry was acting alone, or even if it was him at all and he's not covering up for someone else)

And it is a word which is seen as very offensive by a certain section of the population. I know other people who throw it around like it's nothing (one set of my cousins, for example, who call their friends 'you cunt' in jest if they accidentally spill a drink or something), but it does seem like the sort of word to upset Helen.

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/10/2023 19:33

Well said, Lee!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/10/2023 19:35

Bye bye, Lee. But well done for your denunciation: almost up to Kirsty standards, that was.

TherapistInATabard · 19/10/2023 19:46

Keri Davies said on Twitter that the word was ‘as bad as you can imagine’, so almost certainly the c word, I reckons.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/10/2023 19:51

Zort a'beschk du peskan graben t'zort! That's bad!

RegimentalSturgeon · 19/10/2023 19:56

Frikadeller!

PuppyPerson · 19/10/2023 21:21

Wow Lee was really cross wasn't he!
As for Brad and his sex advice for George...!
I'm enjoying this week!

echt · 19/10/2023 21:41

Well, that was Helen told, and yes, a rift of epic proportions coming up. Leaving her crucially isolated at some appropriate moment for the surprisingly spritely for a dying man Rob to pitch up. Wink

I enjoyed the Brad and George scene, a change of pace for both actors. The socks though. Is it like Lee's trainers? NAMALT? Grin

EmmasBirthdayEarrings · 19/10/2023 21:55

Lee’s trainers
Lee’s deodorant
Henry’s gym bag
Henry’s trainers
Pip and Stella’s tuxedos
Now George’s socks

Weird preoccupation with boys’ clothing and their smells from this week’s writer…

fairycakesarefr33 · 19/10/2023 21:58

Don't forget Will's undies that were hastily whipped off the radiator @EmmasBirthdayEarrings 😂

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/10/2023 22:00

Mother of a teenage boy with a prom coming up?

Well well well. It is a criminal offence to sell an aerosol paint container to anyone under the age of 16.

https://www.lexisnexis.co.uk/legal/guidance/sale-of-aerosol-paint-to-persons-aged-under-16

"Offence of the sale of aerosol paint to persons aged under 16
"A person commits an offence if he sells an aerosol paint container to a person under the age of 16. An aerosol paint container means a device which:
"contains paint stored under pressure, and
"is designed to permit the release of the paint as a spray
"The objective of the offence is to reduce the incidence of criminal damage caused by acts of grafitti. See Criminal damage."

So where did Henry nick it from/who gave it to him?

RegimentalSturgeon · 19/10/2023 22:33

I still reckon he is carrying the can for A.N. Other. I don’t think he actually said anything tonight admitting in so many words to having done it.

AnneWhittle · 19/10/2023 23:01

And it will be the best ball EVAH!!

pleeeeeease don't let anyone say that or the whole thing will be destroyed by an asteroid

AnneWhittle · 19/10/2023 23:23

to play devil's advocate re the Lesbians, the unusual thing about the relationship surely is that they were already known to each other and to all the people they are now announcing their upgrade to. It's not like Pip met someone from Outside the Village and then casually started bringing her to events and could leave everyone to reach their own conclusions.

TherapistInATabard · 19/10/2023 23:28

George acting all macho lothario with the Guinea pigs squeaking in the background was bloody fantastic. Also liked his reference to Tilly Button as a ‘sophisticated older woman’ who downs pints. I’ve always loved the sound of the Button girls.

Helen needed to hear that from Lee but losing his temper and shouting will just have played into her hands.

OverArmour · 20/10/2023 03:31

fairycakesarefr33 · 19/10/2023 21:58

Don't forget Will's undies that were hastily whipped off the radiator @EmmasBirthdayEarrings 😂

And Adil’s empty drawers and wardrobe.

MerelyPlaying · 20/10/2023 06:43

@WitcheryDivine " ... If I were Stella I'd have cringed myself inside out by now" - brilliant!

I reckon Henry is (literally) carrying the can for someone else.

ArtG · 20/10/2023 07:12

Lee was very keen to grant Henry absolution so perhaps the can was his?

Brefugee · 20/10/2023 07:20

I wonder if Henry really did the spraying but George bought the can (i also wondered how he got the can)

My theory: George provided the paint. George now wants to get revenge on someone and i reckon that he may con/coerce Henry into more graffitti action.

I actually shouted "go Lee!" at the radio.
