FILL THE OLD THREAD UP FIRST! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4902507-archers-thread-154-cider-with-fat-rosie-meadow-rise-to-candleford-or-the-darling-horrobins-of-september-get-your-rural-saga-fix-discuss-the-archers-here?page=10

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more scenes in the abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Lots of lively discussion about Brad's university aspirations and the Open Day on the last thread. Do you want him to end up at Felpersham or do you want him to spread his wings and go further afield? Where will Mia go?

Will this thread see the end of Rob, or do we have many weeks more before his long overdue demise?

What's going on at Grey Gables? Are they running into financial trouble? Will we hear from Roy, who I had forgotten was working there until he was mentioned the other day? Who are the mysterious 'Owners'? Will the locum GP turn out to be Adil's sister, as we have been surmising since she first spoke? Why's she been conjured up?

Talking of the GP, I'm hoping against hope we're not in for bad news about Jim's mole.

Praying that we're going to get a long and much-needed break from hearing P*p. Not praying that we hear Rob being christened. Who would be his sponsor, as someone commented on the last thread? Harrison? Surely that would be a conflict of interest. Can't see who else would do it locally.

I wonder how Ben is getting on now he's back on his nursing degree? Will we ever hear anything about Lily's course, or how Freddie's getting on at the abattoir?

So many questions! Over to you for some answers and boundless speculation.

In an alternate universe, Lillian and Matt have run away together and opened a pub and called it The Tiger and Pusscat.

I wish we were there too. As for your previous point, the trouble there is you're applying logic and common sense to the situation. Nobody in Ambridge is capable of this, it would seem.

Yes, the fatal flaw in my logic is my logic Grin

It reminds of when I babysat my grandchildren a couple of years ago and couldn't find a radio to listen to the Archers. I asked where it was and the eldest just shouted "Alexa play radio 4!'. We've got an Alexa now but still have radios around.

As a complete aside. Their dog howls when the theme tune comes on - has anyone else ever experienced that? They've tried her with other theme tunes but it's only TA that makes her howl mournfully.

Ha - my FIL’s dog howls at the Archers theme tune! I think she does also howl at some other select classical tunes and themes, but yes, the Archers is one of them! Cocker spaniel.

I thought that about the size of the hotel, too. Also, I do think Ian comes across as a bully at the moment; volatile and not constructive just running around, shouting and yelling.

It feels like a long time ago, but that’s my recollection of Ian when he was a chef at GG too - bullish and aggressive. And no, it isn’t just the accent - I’m Northern Irish myself!

It does fit the mould of almost every chef I worked with during a few brief periods in hospitality. But I rather liked boring, mild-mannered, mostly-a-dad-with-occasional-pizza-vanning Ian.

The guinea pigs show no reaction whatsoever to TA. 😆

When we've had dogs in the past it was before things like radio phone apps, so the dogs (who were working farm dogs and didn't come inside the house) never heard it. Although now I'm wondering whether they gathered to sit in the yard under the window at 7pm on summer evenings.

Theirs is a Springer. Maybe it's a Spaniel thing.

I’d listen to that! (Ambridge Extra future possibility…?)

Bruisername · 19/10/2023 08:45

I was wondering if there are any lesbians listening who are finding it all a bit too much tbh. Pip seems to be trying to make it her personality and I’m surprised Stella isn’t more concerned.

on the GG sl I’m just going to have to listen it out because it is so ridiculous. Of course Oliver would speak to Adils boss.

FizzingAda · 19/10/2023 09:04

My cocker spaniel jumps up at the closing tune of TA because he knows we will be washing. Up and he will then get his evening treat. He ignores the opening tune though. Clever boy.
my late four Scotties used the race in from the garden and sit in front of the Tv when the music from that old vet programme with Rolf Harris (sorry!) came on.

EmmasBirthdayEarrings · 19/10/2023 09:06

I couldn’t believe Pip’s excitement at wearing matching Tuxedos. It’s like she has read a manual on how to be a stereotype. I am astonished Stella can be bothered with her.

He's a chef, and a very good and professional one. He's trying to get a proper kitchen designed. He's assembled a brigade, and is trying to make sure they are still there if and when GG re-opens. He's not even going to be their chef (well, not yet - I live in hopeWink)

It's not a bullying tone. It is the tone of a very exasperated man in the face of an exasperating situation.

Chefs styles vary - Gordon Ramsay and Monica Galetti are both very highy regarded. Admittedly, from what little we've heard over the years, as a chef, Ian's style tends to the Gordon Ramsay end of the spectrumGrin

Edited

The problem with that is that he's been in that job for months and has apparently only just noticed the kitchen design. Surely it's one of the first things he would have looked at when appointed?

Passepartoute · 19/10/2023 09:14

OverArmour · 19/10/2023 04:38

Wouldn’t Oliver, as a minority shareholder, have to contact the owners, and have them appoint a replacement for Adil? Or at least just ask them whether they’ve heard from him and what’s going on?

Of course! It's so frustrating that everyone seems to be taking it for granted that it all now falls to Oliver to sort out, without the majority owners apparently having any say at all. Does anyone remember what if anything we were told about the buyers at the time they bought their share of GG?

faffadoodledo · 19/10/2023 09:15

Yes @Passepartoute all that harrumphing would have been better done a month or two ago!

Bruisername · 19/10/2023 09:16

Nothing much apparently.

so Oliver and Lynda team up to get the hotel sorted in time for her glorious ball. A bit of blue tack and some sticky tape and it’s all go!

they then find adil and discover he’s had a full mental breakdown and through love and support of the village they nurse him back and he becomes one of the housekeepers at GG and has a happier and simpler life

iratepirate · 19/10/2023 09:27

Sounds about right @Bruisername

Ours just likes watching costume dramas with lots of horses in.

Yes @Bruisername , but I’d like Emma in there too, removing the chip from her shoulder and proving her worth.

Tuppence ha’penny, on a good day. And the chip is ingrown by now.

Ian has always been a bully and is also an emotional blackmailer. It’s why he and Helen hit it off.

Oh I don't know. Pip is suddenly bi, Ian can be too?

Bruisername · 19/10/2023 12:08

I think that would be a bit too much wouldn’t it?
