FILL THE OLD THREAD UP FIRST! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4902507-archers-thread-154-cider-with-fat-rosie-meadow-rise-to-candleford-or-the-darling-horrobins-of-september-get-your-rural-saga-fix-discuss-the-archers-here?page=10

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more scenes in the abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Lots of lively discussion about Brad's university aspirations and the Open Day on the last thread. Do you want him to end up at Felpersham or do you want him to spread his wings and go further afield? Where will Mia go?

Will this thread see the end of Rob, or do we have many weeks more before his long overdue demise?

What's going on at Grey Gables? Are they running into financial trouble? Will we hear from Roy, who I had forgotten was working there until he was mentioned the other day? Who are the mysterious 'Owners'? Will the locum GP turn out to be Adil's sister, as we have been surmising since she first spoke? Why's she been conjured up?

Talking of the GP, I'm hoping against hope we're not in for bad news about Jim's mole.

Praying that we're going to get a long and much-needed break from hearing P*p. Not praying that we hear Rob being christened. Who would be his sponsor, as someone commented on the last thread? Harrison? Surely that would be a conflict of interest. Can't see who else would do it locally.

I wonder how Ben is getting on now he's back on his nursing degree? Will we ever hear anything about Lily's course, or how Freddie's getting on at the abattoir?

So many questions! Over to you for some answers and boundless speculation.

Pip COULD run off to Chile or something, people in the Archers often do bugger off abroad.

She had the opportunity to go to Brazil (I think it was Brazil - South America, anyway) a long time ago and bottled out. I was gutted. She'll never go now. Rosie needs to grow up surrounded by dozens of close relatives. It's the Archer Way.

As long as they make the witless ghost business stop, I don’t mind what else they do, quite frankly…

God, same. I fast forwarded through it this morning. It's the advantage of listening on catch up!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/10/2023 08:02

PS Thanks for the tip about Gutenberg, Asking - I was thinking of a proper printed book in case my Mum hasn't read it. I think she might enjoy it.

I remember a ‘gritty’ Maxine Peake drama were someone was eaten by a pig. Hadn’t her son gone off to war?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/10/2023 14:50

How strange that we both misremembered.

Mandela effect?

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 10/10/2023 15:30

Sorry, what is an 'Academic Archers Conference?'

Is it academics who listen to TA discussing the latest SL? Or perhaps people who are studying TA at degree level?

I'm really intrigued. 🤔

SequentialAnalyst · 10/10/2023 15:39

@Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor I have never been to one, but AIUI:
Basically, it's a chance for overinfested people, like the ones on here, to get together and talk about TA. Some of them may be academics, most not. I would very much be up for going. Where is it, and when?

I did once go to a Buffy conference, which took place at U.of E Anglia if memory serves, over a weekend. Proper papers of course, and lots of illustrative footage of Spike (hooray!) and Angel (boo!)

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 10/10/2023 15:47

Thank you @SequentialAnalyst . I would quite fancy that. I have been listening for about 50 years & all my family think I'm bonkers (& a bit sad). I have discovered one colleague at work who follows TA so it's nice to exchange opinions/ideas.

I'm going to a meeting with some authors that I follow cos I'm that sad this weekend so it would be something I'd consider

SequentialAnalyst · 10/10/2023 15:57

SadConfused? It's not sad...Wink Do you want to insult the whole thread?!!??Grin

BTW, I'm a member of a couple of Literary Societies Smile

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 10/10/2023 16:01

Oh no I don't think listening to TA or indeed engaging with others who do is sad, but it's how my family feel about some of my interests.

I apologise if anyone took that as an insult, it certainly wasn't my intention 😢.

Next one is the last weekend in April, 1 or 2-day tickets, in London at the Friends Meeting House on Euston Road.

Ticketing link through the Academic Archers FB page.

SequentialAnalyst · 10/10/2023 16:20

@Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor I was winding you up! look at the emojis and punctuation in my post...

My Ex used to MOCK my Archers listening Angry. One of the reasons he is an Ex Grin

Bruisername · 10/10/2023 16:22

I would get tickets but I don’t have Facebook!

And this is one of the reasons I love living in Durham. 3 hours to Kings Cross. 🚄 (apparently that blue thing is meant to be a bullet train) (Wish I had a Tardis)
Off to investigate, thanks @EBearhug

I think there's an AA website, too.

I'm not home, nor with my laptop where I have stuff like thst bookmarked, so can't check for now.

Bruisername · 10/10/2023 18:50

Another 6.30 comedy I don’t get. It doesn’t seem the best subject for a comedy and the audience seem to be over reacting somehow. V interesting but I don’t understand why it’s comedy?

Bruisername · 10/10/2023 19:15

I’ve heard exactly the same thing except it was an invite to a funeral sent to the whole village!!!

talk about ushas point being proved!!! Helen was very reasonable. Pat was quite unpleasant and came across terribly.

poor lobster!!

this was a good episode

TottersBlanklyIntoBimboCore · 10/10/2023 19:17

So - further to my earlier speculation, it may be that both Usha and Alan are on their way out of Ambridge …

Bruisername · 10/10/2023 19:20

its very strange. I understood Pat isn’t religious. Why does she care if he’s getting baptised? I could understand if her issue was that Alan hadn’t mentioned he’s back but she seems to have an issue with Alan facilitating the baptism. She came across as a total weirdo with the whole ‘Peggy’s thinking she may not come to church on Sunday’ and ‘the whole village thinks the same as me’

Ambridge · 10/10/2023 19:24

Gosh 😵‍💫

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/10/2023 19:29

I got an attack of "Yes, but today is Tuesday". What are they going to do to keep up the melodrama for the rest of the week?

AnneWhittle · 10/10/2023 19:32

no I get why Pat would be so furious, it will have looked to her as if Alan and Usha are attempting to rehabilitate Rob, and give him a place in the community- she will have challenged it in religious terms as that's how Rob (and seemingly Alan) have framed it

Bruisername · 10/10/2023 19:39

But Helen was so reasonable - and Pat creating this crusade is just going to upset Helen even more. She sees Rob for what he is now and he will be rubbing his hands together with glee if Pat leads a mob marching on the vicarage with burning pitchforks. It’s so obvious the invite was sent to punish Alan and usha and she comes across as rabidly stupid not to see it - even after pointed out by helen

Patcherdog · 10/10/2023 19:51

I feel sorry for Usha getting all the stick. Not fair!
