FILL THE OLD THREAD UP FIRST! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4902507-archers-thread-154-cider-with-fat-rosie-meadow-rise-to-candleford-or-the-darling-horrobins-of-september-get-your-rural-saga-fix-discuss-the-archers-here?page=10

Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more scenes in the abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: //www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Lots of lively discussion about Brad's university aspirations and the Open Day on the last thread. Do you want him to end up at Felpersham or do you want him to spread his wings and go further afield? Where will Mia go?

Will this thread see the end of Rob, or do we have many weeks more before his long overdue demise?

What's going on at Grey Gables? Are they running into financial trouble? Will we hear from Roy, who I had forgotten was working there until he was mentioned the other day? Who are the mysterious 'Owners'? Will the locum GP turn out to be Adil's sister, as we have been surmising since she first spoke? Why's she been conjured up?

Talking of the GP, I'm hoping against hope we're not in for bad news about Jim's mole.

Praying that we're going to get a long and much-needed break from hearing P*p. Not praying that we hear Rob being christened. Who would be his sponsor, as someone commented on the last thread? Harrison? Surely that would be a conflict of interest. Can't see who else would do it locally.

I wonder how Ben is getting on now he's back on his nursing degree? Will we ever hear anything about Lily's course, or how Freddie's getting on at the abattoir?

So many questions! Over to you for some answers and boundless speculation.

Hi, everyone. Thanks for another thread, Gaspode. @Fink asked me about thread-filling rates, so I can provide some data. Of course, it doesn't help having these overlapping threads!

Fink - your sense is correct: since the summer the post per day rate has been steadily increasing up to 73 posts per day on the last thread. See graph.

History show that with the exception of Nic's death, there is one storyline that pushes up comments to these threads...

Lovely graph @DadDadDad. I’m curious to know if we now have more posters (generating more posts) though I imagine that would be much more difficult to analyse. It feels as if there are more posters after a recent influx, but maybe the overall number remains the same as some people leave (and some just name change).

someone mentioned DARVO on the last thread- it stands for

Deny (that there was abuse)
Accuse (the victim)
Reverse
Victim and
Offender

which is what both Rob and Miles have done

So what happened in Q1’18 to get everyone so voluble, I wonder.

Ta, Gasp0de!

Bloody felpersham university. 😫😫😫can’t we have one sodding wc kid going to a top uni.

i like that jazzer is a good stepdad but I really hope the sl doesn’t end with him at felpersham

Why have they made Emma so gullible? It’s really irritating!! Has she always been like that? I honestly thought they said demonic hand not hound!

helicopter ride? Interesting choice. I went on one as a kid but after seeing their safety record I’m terrified of them now!!

Noooooo Brad go Birmingham, Warwick or somewhere.

AngryBirdsNoMore · 05/10/2023 19:54

Noooooo not Felpersham :(

Also, end of Jan application means he isn’t even applying for Oxford or Cambridge. I know they’re not the be all and end all by any means but again he’s limiting himself by not even applying.

Felpersham.

What did we say?

I have known people who are as gullible as Emma, but it's partly because they have an open mind, and little training in logical thought. But the point is, that story is based on an actual hanging of an Ambridge resident who wasn't a witch, (and her dog), however much her neighbours were convinced she was.

I'm fine with Brad choosing Felpersham, even though I think his fears would prove groundless at Durham (which is not a campus university, though I can see how Tracy and Jazzer might thinks so, as the Maths Dept is on the Science Site - and yes, it's confusing). He would meet other students as excellent as him at maths - some more, some less. Some of them would be very like him, and worrying about making friends as much as he was. And he would find out how good he really was.

I'd rather hear Brad's life on the radio as a Felpersham undergraduate, than not bump into him in town near the Cathedral or somewhere. I reckon he might be good enough to do an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. so that's OK. I can wait.

My utter joy, when I discovered most of my new friends hated games as much as I did Grin

The only thing is - I’m not sure they’d have bothered to give us the Durham visit if it was all going to be for nothing. This might be Chelsea and the last possible minute decision-making all over again; maybe it’s a Horrobin trait? Mia will talk him round. (If not her, someone completely unexpected.)

Report
faffadoodledo · 05/10/2023 20:30

C'mon Brad. Go to Duz. It'll be the making of you. Is Mia heading north too? Do we know?

Report
Bruisername · 05/10/2023 20:32

Yes - the witch breastfed a toad. Unfortunately I doubt this sl is going to take a feminist turn where it ends with the witch being pardoned

i would rather hear Brad in the holidays (which is a large chunk of the year!) than all year round as a felpersham university student. Part of university is being independent isn’t it?

at the very least I want his long term sl to be as a maths professor at felpersham uni
