Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd be euphoric about getting a job in an abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4888492-the-archers-spoilers-thread-8-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for the thread title suggestions. @HumanWetWipe came up with Cider with Fat Rosie and @BeardieWeirdie thought up Meadow Rise to Candleford. I wish I could have put in the Line of Duty mashups from the end of the last thread. Another time.

Heading for a ferry shortly, so nothing more from me for now. Over to you!

Wouldn’t that have come up in the trial?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2023 14:56

Why would someone with whom she was not going out nor living at the time having killed himself have been deemed relevant at the trial, though?

He wasn't her bidey-in when he did it.

Bruisername · 05/10/2023 14:58

I’m sure robs defence lawyer could have done something with it!

Bruisername · 05/10/2023 14:53

Wouldn’t that have come up in the trial?

I guess it's possible that it did, we didn't hear every minute of the trial broadcast. But since Miles and Rob being close is an invention of the past few weeks, we can assume Miles wouldn't know about it even if Rob and his lawyer had been shouting it all over the place.

Bruisername · 05/10/2023 15:14

I guess it’s best not to try and think of the past sl as being coherent with the current

Rob didn't have a defence lawyer at Helen's trial; he was a witness for the prosecution, which was being done by the crown.

Bruisername · 05/10/2023 15:28

Oh good point. I always forget he wasn’t prosecuted.

Yes, that way madness lies. Intense frustration, anyway.

Back home now. If I said they took very nearly an armful, how many of you would immediately recognise the reference, I wonder?

I did!

With all the talk of spooky stories, perhaps! The giant hand in the clearing is actually an arm drained of blood…

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2023 16:40

Or a dessicated (but enormous) hound.

(Points for that one too.)

Fink · 05/10/2023 17:02

I don't get it. Any enlightenment for those of us who didn't earn a star? (although I did also donate blood so got a point, and points mean prizes - even though in the case of blood donation I got a badge earlier this year, which means I'm at least 8 years away from my next prize, so points don't mean very many prizes - a less catchy catchphrase)

JanglyBeads · 05/10/2023 17:09

I'm equally 😕

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/10/2023 17:12

TV episode from 1961.

JanglyBeads · 05/10/2023 17:21

Ah OK! Hancock

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/10/2023 17:34

Oh, you young things. Yes, Hancock. I was either a babe in arms or unborn when it was first broadcast but it was often quoted when I was growing up. Jill would know. <desperate attempt to get back on topic>

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

I have a Sarf London accent but becoz I woz clever I went to a posh skool. Which is why I have a slighly posh overtone. And is how I ended up here - a nerd like Brad (only physics), before being a nerd was cool.

Brad doesn't have many friends, and they might be interested in different universities. In my day, we went off on our own - to interviews, not open days.

In Durham, the locals used to think any accent from Down South is posh! No matter how my friend and I tried to persuade our Durham friends otherwise, insisting that we talked common, they wouldn't have it!

Might I suggest it's time to move to the new thread? We normally move on some time after the 970th post.

Thread 155

But we are specially requested (you can see it in your link) to fill the old thread up first, and we are only on page 39, not 40....
