Can anyone recommend more investigative/ documentary podcasts. Any subject matter really - I like a series with an intriguing subject matter.

Things I’ve enjoyed recently:

Fever (Radio 4 podcast about origin of Covid)
The Sound (series about ‘Havana Syndrome’ and its causes)
The Girlfriends (true-crime style about domestic violence and murder, but told in a very humane way)
Trojan Horse Affair (Islamic extremism / Islamophobia in Birmingham)

Any other suggestions?

Your Own Backyard is hands down the best thing I've listened to, closely followed by season 2 of In the Dark

The Trojan horse affair was really good but I found the final episode in Australia really weak which let the whole thing down.

The Missing Crypto Queen

Scamanda was very bingeable

It really is.

I'm currently listening to The Retrievals which is very good.

The Teachers Pet and Teachers Trial are intresting but pretty deep and there are a lot of them!

Thank you for the recommendation.
Is Teachers pet about peados? I hate stuff like that so I have to avoid it at all costs.
I like people who lie and are caught out- that’s my favourite!

Oh I loooove a narrative documentary!
Toxic the Britney Spears story
Believe in magic
Sympathy pains
Serial
S town
The retrievals
The girlfriends
The witch trials of jk Rowling
Autism first child
Nolan investigates Stonewall
Stealing superman
The coming storm
Will be wild
The dream
The great post office trial

Hormonehell1 · 02/09/2023 18:05

The retrievals was so good. Very shocking but addictive.

mummy2oneandtwo · 02/09/2023 23:39

The retrievals was so good, a truly shocking case and dive into how womens pain is perceived.

So was Scamanda, but In the Dark season 2 and Your own Backyard actually changed the course of the investigations which I find fascinating.

Who the Hell is Hamish is very good too.

Nice White Parents
you’re wrong about (earlier seasons)

AmeliaEarhart · 24/10/2023 16:34

The Cows Are Mad on BBC Sounds. It’s about the BSE outbreak in the 80s and 90s. I found it really interesting as I remember it from my childhood/early teens but - obviously - wasn’t paying much attention to the details at the time.

I have been binging it over the last couple of days! Really interesting - like you it was something I was aware of had little appreciation of the details.

I'm now on episode 3 of "Exposed: Cover up at Columbia University" with Laura Biel (Serial) and it's excellent.

Awful topic but she makes it so human and tells the story so well.

userxx · 25/10/2023 19:56

Blind plea was also excellent.

FluffyFlufferson · 03/03/2024 19:37

Wind of Change is by far the best I’ve listened to.

AtomicBlondeRose · 03/03/2024 19:41

The Lady Vanishes - starts as a fairly bog standard cold case investigation and has turned into a huge influence on the case, with podcast listeners providing crucial information.

lljkk · 03/03/2024 19:46

Tortoise News

PullUpTheDrawbridge · 03/03/2024 21:43

Ghost story. It's not really a ghost story tbh, more investigative journalism with a pleasing out come.
