Radio Times Ambridge Diary 22nd - 26th May 2022
Misery continues to be heaped on beleaguered Tracy. A sympathetic Jazzer wants better for her, but he too is anxious as he tries to find his feet in a new role. In the end, he ropes in some help - but will his scheme pay off?
Plans are also taking shape for the bank holiday picnic, but Fallon has her work cut out after Stella comes up with a community-minded idea. Not all the villagers, though, think of Ambridge as one happy neighbourhood, with mystery still surrounding the identity of the graffiti artist whose offensive daub has targeted one of the locals. Mind you, the victim isn't exactly in everybody's good books right now....

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update May 22nd - 26th May
How right have we been never to park in Ambridge. The high accident rate, plus the lurking threat of Alice with a brick, has put many of us off. Now there’s another reason to keep your wheels away from the village. A graffiti artist with a grudge and a bucket of paint is at work, and although some are sympathetic about the cause, the identity of the phantom dauber remains a mystery.
On a happier note, Jazzer appears to be finding his feet in his role as a kitchen salesman; presumably none of his potential customers have seen the domestic arrangements over at Greenacres.
Meanwhile, under the Carter roof, things take a turn for the bitter as Neil tires of Aldridge games.

Thanks Asking. Must say I'm looking forward to getting back to 'normal' with the return to six episodes.

WhoppingBigBackside · 22/05/2022 14:12

Thanks Asking. I'll probably forget to listen to the Friday episode when it happens

All I can say is "I tried!" -- and I'll try to remember to say it again next week. Wink

WhoppingBigBackside · 23/05/2022 19:30

Wonder if Stella is lined up for Alistair

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/05/2022 19:46

Yes, I said that a while ago, Whopping. At 60, he's a bit old for her though, I'd have thought. She must be 30-40 ish?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/05/2022 20:07

That makes them about right for TA: David and Ruth, Elizabeth and Nigel, Lily and Russ?

WhoppingBigBackside · 24/05/2022 09:00

She is pally with Ruth so might be older.
The actor is 45, but it's TA so that doesn't mean that the character is about the same age

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/05/2022 11:57

Belated thanks, Asking! I was just speculating about Stalistair (apols) over on the main thread. It does look very much as it that might be a possibility.

OP posts:
WhoppingBigBackside · 24/05/2022 12:07

Stalistair Grin
Seems more likely than Willella [Willa? Still?]

Madcats · 28/05/2022 09:53

I'd in the Team Stella & Will camp. Mia could do with having a successful role model to encourage to her to go to university and make a success of her life.

Maybe Will could make something of his life, too. He would have probably been really good in a re-wilding role, having had to manage the shoot woodlands/ground cover etc.. I wonder why the SW didn't think of that.

I'm please that Alistair's sister is coming back for a bit (double checks we're on Spoilers, though it was the main thread discussion that prompted me to google).

TottersBlankly · 28/05/2022 10:10

Thanks Asking!

Where does it say Fiona is coming back, Madcats? I know I mentioned her on the main thread - but that was only because I’d had the pleasure of meeting the actress in her new academic role. Have you been reading ahead on the TA site?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/05/2022 10:44

Fiona is not in the cast list next week or the one after. Julianne is, though.

In fact, here are the spoilers and cast for next week; I'll add the Mail's if I get them. After this week they seem to have gone back to putting up the cast alphabetical-by-surname, which saves me a small chore every time.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 29th May - 3rd June
Archers fans, take note: this is when the soap returns to its full complement of 6 episodes each week. So, once again, we can spend 15 minutes of our Friday evenings in Ambridge.
A cause for celebration, for sure. And we’re not alone, as Brian and Jennifer should also be raising a glass - only for them, it’s to mark 46 years of marriage. The trouble is, Brian still has Alice and Chris’s messy divorce on his mind and is working hard to protect his assets.
Elsewhere, Chelsea makes no secret of her arachnophobia. But is it the spider she doesn’t want to live with or its owner, Jazzer? Alice is keen for Ruairi to spend more time at home, but professional commitments have a hold on him. Just what is he up to?

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

I suppose Alice is keen to have Ruairi around so that she can torment him some more and not let up until he says wearily, "All right, I forgive you, you unremitting bore, even if you have no idea what you actually said. Now will you just shut the fuck up and leave me alone?"

Madcats · 28/05/2022 11:50

Tail between my legs time.

I landed on 2019's Ambridge Reporter's cast list for 1st week of June. It's a shame that she doesn't have a couple of parts/year.

Presumably something "noteworthy" (hopefully something pleasant) will happen on the first Friday episode. The write up doesn't sound promising.

WhoppingBigBackside · 28/05/2022 12:17

Thanks Asking
Julianne is Ruairi's lady friend, so I wonder what we will find out.

My forebodings were correct...

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 29th May - 3rd June
Brian, like some demon king, can make vast swathes of Ambridge disappear. Three Home Farm cottages, one spiritual home and a sizeable farmhouse appeared to have been wiped off the map during Brian’s encounter with Aaron, the forensic accountant. Those properties have been dragged back from the invisible world, thanks to Chris, and while Brian scowls, weddings and Jubilee jubilations steam ahead, with merriment filling the air, broken only by the occasional scream from Chelsea, who’s been working on her arachnophobia.
Meanwhile, Jim reacts oddly to some news, leaving Alistair trying to get to the bottom of the matter, while Roy worries that an honest admission may come back to bite him.

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

... we are going to be dragged kicking and screaming to a Jubilee party.

It's not that Brian caused a sizeable farmhouse to disappear; it never existed in the programme in the first place. Brian did not buy the Valley Farm farmhouse; and if he'd owned a spare house, why on earth would he have needed to rent a small semi? And furthermore, if he owned a sizeable farmhouse why not sell that instead of Home Farm farmhouse?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/05/2022 15:14

Thanks, Asking! I'd forgotten about Webster. I'm rather with Chelsea on the idea of sharing a home with a large spider.

How big is the Horrobin house? If Tracey, Gary, Bert, Chelsea and Brad were living there who shared with who?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/05/2022 16:50

ILoveShula · 30/05/2022 15:36

There were six Horrobin children living in that house with their parents Ivy and Bert, after Clive was born in November 1972 and until Susan moved out in February 1984. We know that Tracy and Susan shared a room (that came out when Susan was helping Tracy clear out things from the house before moving in) but the four boys must have been a bit cramped!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/05/2022 16:53

That's if the council houses on that road were all the same size, and they certainly look it in the illustrations:
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00w47v9/p00w1rxr
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00w47v9/p00w1s03

We know that 1, the Green had a room each for Tom, Johnny and Hannah, making three bedrooms, and there wasn't another room there.

ILoveShula · 30/05/2022 17:07

One of my schoolfriends was one of 6 and IIRC they had a three bedroom council house. There was quite a difference in age between the eldest and youngest, so it's possible that the eldest two were married when DFriend was born.

XP was one of four. Brought up in a 3 bedroom council house. Bunk beds and a single bed in one bedroom, smallest bedroom had a single bed.

It was common to share a bedroom when I was a child. I remember neighbours had a 2 bed and 3 kids. Largest bedroom was divided into two when the eldest was about 8 so that girl and boy didn't have to share

Horrobin house would have Bert, Gary, Brad, Chelsea and Tracey.

If 3 bedroom maybe Bert slept in the dining/front room, leaving 3 bedrooms, but someone would be sharing

IIRC, Tracey had a downstairs loo added.

Horrobin House is in Ambridge, so the number of bedrooms may vary.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/05/2022 17:38

We lived in a three bedroom council house when my brother and I were little. Decent amount of space for us, but next door there was a family with at least three children, might have been four, and three adults, and they all crammed in. The grandfather slept in what we used as a dining room. I assume upstairs all the boys were in one room and all the girls in another, with the third for the parents.

OP posts:
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/05/2022 17:43

We know that Neil turned the dining-room into a bedroom for Bert with an en suite bathroom (I assumed shower and lavatory) over Christmas one year in the spaceof abut a fortnight -- without any planning or Housing Association permission, but details, details. That would leave three upstairs bedrooms, one being Gary's and the other two divvied out between Tracy, Chelsea and Brad.

I am not sure it's legal to rent out a bedroom to two children over the age of twelve and of different sexes (it used not to be in my council area at the time, but if it still isn't someone here will know!), but maybe Brad identifies as female for accommodation purposes. Or maybe Tracy and Chelsea share the largest of the rooms.

ILoveShula · 30/05/2022 18:04

A girl of 17 and a boy of 16 would not be sharing a bedroom
