Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think we should hear more about the Naughty Milkman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Roysnewshirt for the excellent title suggestion, which I tweaked a bit.

I wonder how much dialogue we're going to get in the coming weeks. They're back to normal recording, I believe, albeit socially distanced. Also, when will we get our Friday and Sunday episodes back? I know I'm not the only regular to miss TA a lot more on Friday than on Sunday. The Sunday episode is still an incomer, of course, having only been introduced some 20 years ago, of course. Grin

(My parents retired to a village and some features of Ambridge life are very familiar from their experience, the 'incomer' label being one.)

@Madcats

Presumably Lizzie will be in a relationship by the end of the year. Will it be with: a) Alistair? b) Vince? c) CMR?

They must all be in their 50's?

There has been no sign that the children are showing any interest in running Lower Loxley, so I wonder what is planned?

I am still annoyed that Lizzie was so rude about the maths tutor in lockdown.

Who is CMR Madcats please? I have completely missed this!

Agree with Darker that Phillip sounded as if he wanted to do a runner. I wonder if Alistair will work out that Gavin isn't really addicted to gambling. Although he was taken in by Ryan, he could have sponsored other people through Gamblers Anonymous. I did like the bit where he said he was proud of Daniel. Also enjoyed Alice and Kate and Alice and Emma.

952 posts! Title time, please.

CMR = Call Me Russ, @nettie434. Notable by his absence from the cast list for many months now.

Emma would be perfectly within her rights never to forget or forgive what Alice said on that message, especially if she heard the whole thing. I don't hold myself out to be a saintly type, but I've never said anything like that in my life to another human being, and I'd never forgive myself if I did.

I reckon Gavin will do a runner but first he will grass on Philip. Good thing too. Those poor young men are being abused.

Can anyone be bothered to outline what Alice said to Emma or is it upthread somewhere?

I feel so bad for Kirsty. She really deserves so luck in love. She seems such a good hearted person.

MollyButton · 16/10/2020 09:05

I think Philip is going to work on Kirsty and them "escaping to somewhere remote". Gavin is going to be unhappy with this, and will let Kirsty know what is really going on - maybe even introduce her to Blake etc. Just before running off with Alice. (Not sure if Alice will have an abortion first though).

Darker · 16/10/2020 09:30

Philip is now short of money so he’ll need to sell the property. I think the ‘moving to Wales’ story is a ruse to get the house on the market before doing a runner with the money. I think Gareth will cop on.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/10/2020 09:39

Not at all, PPE!

Any advance on PPE's idea?

Sigh ...

I swear I wrote "vainglorious to repeat ..." Anyway, daresay you got the gist.

cheezy I think someone did give a fairly detailed description of the call, but I can't find it, so it may have been on the previous thread. Essentially Alice calumned Emma's entire life - her social standing, husband, children, parents, home. It was brutal.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 16/10/2020 09:44

(Soz, crossed you, Gasp0!)

LillianGish · 16/10/2020 09:50

Maybe something with an archaeological flavour: Brookfield digs for treasure while Alice and Philip both try to bury the truth, come and dish the dirt here if you dig The Archers

Bailey0703 · 16/10/2020 09:54

As it's Anti-Slavery day on Sunday, what's the betting this storyline will reach its climax this week ?

R4 · 16/10/2020 10:17

Essentially Alice calumned Emma's entire life - her social standing, husband, children, parents, home. It was brutal.
What I particularly liked - in a wincing way - was Alice mentioning Emma's frantic race around the village desperately trying to find last-minute money for the house purchase. Everybody else has been too polite to say anything since; it has been put in a box marked Never To Be Mentioned but we know that they all have long memories even if they don't actually say anything to Emma's face. And Emma knows this, too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/10/2020 11:19

Well spotted, @Bailey0703, but it will be next week before we have another episode. Sad

Of course, Gasp0de! 🤭 I was wondering last night why Russ wasn't on the list.

Hoping we are moving to a Phillip and Gav denouement now. I feel sorry for Kirsty. She has invested so much in the relationship.

Both potential title threads are up to the high standard I expect here. You are very good at thread naming LilianGish. This is not to denigrate your other posts of course!

TherapistInATabard · 16/10/2020 12:24

Gavin needs to find the Stately Homes threads!

Can anyone be bothered to outline what Alice said to Emma or is it upthread somewhere?

On 15th September, Alice left the following message on Emma's phone:

"waasa ma'er Emmur? Too scared to pick up the PHONE? Can't say I'm surprised... How dare you? No, no, really ... how DARE you? Coming to MY HOUSE, telling Chris all those lies, like you're somehow better than us... I'm not the one who got up the duff by two different brothers (titter)... You think people don't remember when you were a teenager, how you'd hang about the bus stop in your crop-top and your shorty-shorts... Then there's the rest of your fam'ly, half of them are criminals, who d'you think anyone's going to believe? Me, or a walking, talking Jeremy Kyle episode? You might have given Susan grandchildren, but let's face it, what hope have George and Keira got? You know what? You should be grateful. At least with me, Ed knows he can look but not touch, and who can blame him? He must look at me and Chris, and all the fun we have, and then it's back home to you, with your carping, and the whining, and the 'poor me, poor me', no wonder he has to imagine someone else. Is he in bed with you now, Emma? Eh? is ... Is he? Is he asleep next to you? Well, don;t blame me if it's not you he's dreaming of."

Her tone was like a buzz-saw, with slurring and inappropriate emphasis on words.

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 16:06

Oof I forgot how brutal the message was! If Emma did hear the whole thing then she’ll never ever let it go. I don’t think I would either!

BoreOfWhabylon · 16/10/2020 16:11

@Bailey0703

As it's Anti-Slavery day on Sunday, what's the betting this storyline will reach its climax this week ?
Bingo! Well done Bailey
nettie434 · 16/10/2020 17:11

Thanks for the transcript, Asking. It really does look very brutal, as Mrsemcgregor says, when you read the whole thing. Alice was lucky Emma didn't hear the whole thing. If Gavin takes up *TherapistInATabard's suggestion of looking at the Stately Homes thread, then Alice or Emma could post on AIBU.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/10/2020 17:13

Incidentally, I have kept my transcript of that phonecall, with the "don;t" corrected, so if it is wanted there I can post it again on the new thread. That way we'll know what we are talking about.

TheSilveryPussycat · 16/10/2020 18:13

Asking, for 10 points Wink, at what point did the message stop when Em played it to Susan?
AIso, I have a vague idea that I heard Emma say something recently that referred to a latter part of the message (?)
I suppose it's good in a way that I am overinfested again...

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 16/10/2020 20:14

If Phillip does a runner and the house has to be sold, surely Emma will want to have another try at living there? They might even get a good price if Kirsty wants a quick sale

Taswama · 16/10/2020 20:26

I'm already feeling sorry for Kirsty and the pain that awaits her.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/10/2020 20:41

It seems a strange, inaptly nautical name for a pub in landlocked Borsetshire. There's an Eight Bells in Chipping Camden. Close to Borsetshire and equally landlocked.

MikeUniformMike · 16/10/2020 20:48

Isn't the reference to bells to do with the local church?
I thought that pub names often were linked to something local, like a main road having pubs named things like Coach & Horses.
