Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think we should hear more about the Naughty Milkman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Roysnewshirt for the excellent title suggestion, which I tweaked a bit.

I wonder how much dialogue we're going to get in the coming weeks. They're back to normal recording, I believe, albeit socially distanced. Also, when will we get our Friday and Sunday episodes back? I know I'm not the only regular to miss TA a lot more on Friday than on Sunday. The Sunday episode is still an incomer, of course, having only been introduced some 20 years ago, of course. Grin

(My parents retired to a village and some features of Ambridge life are very familiar from their experience, the 'incomer' label being one.)

@UntamedWisteria

Alistair's comments on lying to your loved ones were significant, I feel.
Yeah -- they had "author's sense of dramatic irony" stamped all over them.

wouldn’t wish Philip the slave master on anyone IRL, but Kirsty is so obtuse, she, kind of, deserves him

That is harsh. Predators and abusers are successful precisely because they are manipulative and convincing, especially to their nearest and dearest.

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2020 13:26

@Madcats, that's not terribly far from me. I think Asking is fairly local too.

this is so true and makes me fear for her - so far she has heard nothing to suggest that Philip and Gavin's story isn't true but once she starts to suspect (if she doesn't keep her suspicions to herself) Philip will step up the gaslighting. Hopefully she will recall enough from the Helen/Rob situation to recognise the signs.
MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2020 14:02

You don't recognise the signs, though.
You dismiss each one as it comes along as being stress/workload/needing space etc. and despite you thinking 'I don't like that' you don't want to rock the boat. Then one day the scales fall off your eyes and you watch your life come tumbling down like a house of cards.

RAC route planner reckons I am about 25 minutes from Maidenhead.

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2020 15:56

Oh, sorry Asking, someone fairly recently mentioned a farm shop near Marlow, and I thought it was you. Goole maps has me about that far from Middenhead too.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/10/2020 16:06

Little Marlow does have a farm shop; too expensive for me to use on the rare occasions I am driving on that road. What that shop does have is a rather fine fishmonger section (fishmonging section? Ought exist as a word but probably doesn't).

There is also a farm shop at Bolter End which sells Guernsey milk and cream -- they have a herd of Guernseys. I have been known to mount an expedition to Lacey's Farm for milk and home-made pies, plus their sausages and many-many local cheeses, some made with the farm's milk. On their website it says

"In recent years it has been an effort of brothers with Dan and Gideon on running the farm and twins, Ed and Will, increasingly taking charge."

I didn't really believe it when I was told that the brothers Ed and Will were running the place...

MoonJelly · 13/10/2020 16:12

Philip must be well aware that it is inevitable that, if he carries on with the slaves, Kirsty will find out at some point and that there is no way she will tolerate it. Last night it sounded as if he was trying to get out of that business, but it doesn't sound as if his building business is particularly viable if he starts paying proper wages.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 13/10/2020 16:12

Doesn't bear thinking about!

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 13/10/2020 16:14

(Oh MN ... Why couldn't my post have slipped in ahead of MoonJelly's? Doesn't make sense now ... )

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2020 17:54

So it was you Asking.

Ed and Will - their mother doesn't make the ice cream and yoghurts I hope. Grin

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/10/2020 18:36

Somebody must do.

I don't think she can be an Archers listener, though!

MikeUniformMike · 13/10/2020 18:53

Fishmongering.

UntamedWisteria · 13/10/2020 19:19

Surely they aren't planning for Elizabeth to get together with Vince Casey?

Yuk.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/10/2020 19:28

Oh, I do hope so!

He and CMR can come to fisticuffs Grin

cameocat · 13/10/2020 19:40

@UntamedWisteria I also wondered if they were going to set Lizzy up with Vince, they will enjoy the disgust that David had vs Lizzy's happiness but I will be furious if they are. It just feels wrong. I still miss Nigel.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/10/2020 19:44

I don;t think Elizabeth would be particularly happy as the third (or is it fourth?) Mrs Casey, on the whole. And would he be interested once he discovered that LL is not hers?

Motoko · 13/10/2020 20:04

Oh god, not Elizabeth and Vince!

UnholyStramash · 13/10/2020 20:28

Obvs innit.. Alistair’s going to hear about the horses, take along his vet’s bag and find the horses are human. Please, I’m not really expecting this to happen.

UnholyStramash · 13/10/2020 20:38

I can see Freddie taking a dim view of his mother getting with Vince Casey . Much as he has about any man since Nige.

Maybe Helen will find her head in whatever dark hole it’s lodged and SAVE KIRSTY. Would that be too twee? Possibly. In fact I’ve no great ideas about what’ll happen - but I listen so I’m not the last person to know what does happen next. Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/10/2020 20:41

Alice is going to go on a bender.

Taswama · 13/10/2020 21:06

Last nights episode was excruciating. I don't know a lot about addiction, but I do know the addict has to decide to quit for themselves.

Discovered today that a friend in real life is also an Archer's fan!

Roysnewshirt · 13/10/2020 21:32

Lovely chat between Alice and Kate. I think Alice could have even gone one step further and confided exactly how much she has been drinking. Kate can pull it out of the bag on occasion and might be just the support Alice needs.

My sister is VERY like Kate in lots of ways (obsessed with diets, decaf, detox and being carb-free) and it felt like she was literally in the room when Kate cracked open the disgusting-looking-but-oh-so-good-for-you smoothies! Boop for the SW tonight.

I think Vince has seen Lizzie on the dating app.

TheSilveryPussycat · 13/10/2020 22:07

I'm thinking Vince will decide to book Lower Loxley instead of Brookfield. Elizabeth was just doing a good sales job.
