Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think we should hear more about the Naughty Milkman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Roysnewshirt for the excellent title suggestion, which I tweaked a bit.

I wonder how much dialogue we're going to get in the coming weeks. They're back to normal recording, I believe, albeit socially distanced. Also, when will we get our Friday and Sunday episodes back? I know I'm not the only regular to miss TA a lot more on Friday than on Sunday. The Sunday episode is still an incomer, of course, having only been introduced some 20 years ago, of course. Grin

(My parents retired to a village and some features of Ambridge life are very familiar from their experience, the 'incomer' label being one.)

Aha! Thanks.

That title link reminds me how we have been cheated of the Tracy/Oliver relationship - anticipation of which was giving me life.

@MikeUniformMike

Speaking of interns, what happened to Alex Friend?
I think it shows how stressful university life is just now for us staff that I had no idea who Alex Friend was! Anyway, I've checked and they are fine. Finished their degree and working for a charity.
ILoveShula · 05/10/2020 11:08

Never mind Philip disappearing in a puff of smoke, it seems I have.

I had a thread in AIBU under a name change and it seems that the thread and my account has gone.

You know who I am.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 05/10/2020 11:17

Their degree?

Interesting legacy ...

I wonder which Ambridge resident might be most keen to alter their pronouns. One of the Button girls perhaps. Or the long disappeared tree surgeon Jamie. Someone peripheral, anyway.

ILoveShula · 05/10/2020 11:26

Isn't there a boy Button? The girls are Molly and Tilly, but I seem to think there was a Billy Button too.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2020 11:32

He was called Angus Shrimpton, MUM. He came on Boxing Day, a typical day for the pub in the way of custom, stayed for less than an hour, and uttered his diktats. Which imbecile Lilian took as gospel because he had redecorated Justin's club and been recommended by Justin, and Jolene used as a way to be unpleasant to Kenton as usual.

ILoveShula · 05/10/2020 11:35

Thanks Asking, I knew it started with an A.
I need a new username. Thought this one up in a hurry.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2020 11:39

The boy Button was indeed Billy; he was at nursery with Henry, which gives us his age.

We were told in August 2012 that Molly Button was 11 with a birthday later in the year, so that gives her age; there was a cousin called Stephen who was the same age as Ruairi.

Mr Button was named at one point as Terry, though a Russell Button was mentioned on air in 2016 and I thought that was Molly's father.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 05/10/2020 11:43

Billy Button is too young to take up a starring role ...

In other news - have you been away for long, ILoveShula?

ILoveShula · 05/10/2020 11:48

No, I started a thread in AIBU this morning about something that happened to me yesterday and used a new name. I forgot to mention the name change, and presumably due to what was in my posts, I was assumed to be a troll.

TherapistInATabard · 05/10/2020 12:30

Are you MUM?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2020 12:37

I hope that if you write at once to Mumsnet HQ they might accept what happened!

ILoveShula · 05/10/2020 12:54

I'll stay mum about who I am. Wink

I hadn't really thought that my thread would be dodgy.

UntamedWisteria · 05/10/2020 19:14

What is the relationship between Jill Archer and Peggy Archer?

Is it DIL/MIL?

How is she 90?

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 05/10/2020 19:25

They're sisters in law. Jill was married to Phil Archer; Peggy was married to his brother Jack Archer. Christine Barford is another Archer sibling. (There are various family trees loitering in the Internet - take your pick.)

Interesting episode. If we get a Detectorists / Archers mash-up I may actually die of happiness.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 05/10/2020 19:27

loitering on not in ...

UntamedWisteria · 05/10/2020 19:47

Thanks Persephone.

Not sure how I have managed to listen for so long without understanding that.

I always thought they were different generations...

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 19:59

Guess who's back.

I think that Jill is a bit younger but her children are younger than Peggy's.
Elizardbreath is about the same age as Adam, I think

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 19:59

I did as you suggested Asking

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 05/10/2020 20:11

Interestingly the BBC Archers' site calls Jill, Peggy's "friend" - which is a totally inadequate way of denoting their lifelong family relationship.

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/5J6kJ02x6KR2jxrTx2VPk7T/peggy-woolley

I suppose for each of them, the other's husband was the actual in-law, but they're definitely faaaaaamly.

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 20:26

It also lists Christine as a former SIL.
As Peggy was widowed, surely she is still a SIL.

I remember being Angry at reading 'Linda McCartney, Paul's ex-wife'.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2020 20:30

Peggy born 13/11/24
Jill born 3/10/30

Jennifer born 7/1/45, Lilian 8/7/47, Tony 16/2/51

Adam, Jennifer's first child, born 27/6/67
Elizabeth, Jill's last child, born 21/4/67

Welcome back, MUM!

ILoveShula · 05/10/2020 20:35

Thanks. Smile

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/10/2020 21:00

Now I am confused. Are you MUM or ILS? Or is that two different people?

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 21:10

Lots of people love Shula. Smile
I think that ILoveShula would probably mention that she can't stand Pip.
