Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think we should hear more about the Naughty Milkman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Roysnewshirt for the excellent title suggestion, which I tweaked a bit.

I wonder how much dialogue we're going to get in the coming weeks. They're back to normal recording, I believe, albeit socially distanced. Also, when will we get our Friday and Sunday episodes back? I know I'm not the only regular to miss TA a lot more on Friday than on Sunday. The Sunday episode is still an incomer, of course, having only been introduced some 20 years ago, of course. Grin

(My parents retired to a village and some features of Ambridge life are very familiar from their experience, the 'incomer' label being one.)

MUM, I am taking the liberty of suggesting all of those for that list. Today's may take a while to go up; I think yesterday's already have, because they were liked. (Oh, Chrysalis is there as "anon"; it'll get sorted.)

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 13:26

Thank you Ask. You can put Cursedy up too, if you like.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2020 13:36

Cursedy being Kirsty? She's in there as Cursety, but I don't see why both shouldn't be listed.

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 13:37

Kursedy even. Poor, poor Kirsy. She's excelled herself this time.

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 13:38

Kirsty even. I hope she ends up with someone nice, only with her luck...

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2020 13:44

She is there to be a Frightful Example to Young Women of how they are Deceived By Men, I feel. It's been her lot in TA from her first appearance onwards: Tom, then Sam, then Tom, then Pawel, then Tom, then Iftikar, then Tom, then Tom again, now Philip. The only decent one in the whole boiling was Patrick, and he wasn't particularly interested. Oh, and Gareth who came to the fĂŞte with her after the flood may have been a nice enough bloke, but I think he was only there as protective colouration and he was never mentioned again after that one day as far as I remember.

Madcats · 04/10/2020 14:13

"Cheese and mocktails" - it would have to be hard cheese, without mould, too.

I have come to the conclusion that some of the SWs have very miserable lives.

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 17:19

Oh yes, Gareth. Didn't he fall by the wayside when the Kirsty&Tom baby was a possibility?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2020 17:24

Gareth was mentioned in a single episode, as being with her at the fĂŞte, and then never again. He didn't speak. I think they must have not stayed together when (for no earthly reason I could see apart from Plot) she decided to come back to live in Ambridge and rent a room from Roy.

Augustbreeze · 04/10/2020 17:32

Patrick??

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2020 17:44

Yes; she made a pass, he ducked. Or as I said, "The only decent one in the whole boiling was Patrick, and he wasn't particularly interested."

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/10/2020 17:53

IIRC, Patrick is the one from Borsetshire Ornithology Trust or some other environmental organisation. Doesn't he play the organ or piano or similar? Is he gay or did we just surmise that he might be because of his total lack of interest in Kirsty?

Who's Rotaboy?

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 18:09

Roy of the Rotas

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/10/2020 18:16

Hmpfff!

It was moi who came up with Chilli con carnal on this very board and it has been MISATTRIBUTED!

Hmpfff!

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 18:17

It's a good un Bore. Yer did yerself proud there.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2020 18:33

It was so good that two people came up with it at the same time: great minds thinking alike.

1Eggor2 was the continuity announcer who said it immediately after the episode in which it was Susan's carnal offering, though, so he may have got there first. Just.

He was mentioned as playing the organ at St Stephen's a few times. His excuse for not wanting to go out with Kirsty (which he made very gracefully while they were in a bird-hide, I think) was that he'd had a messy break-up not long before and didn't want to be with a girl for a bit. Then he vanished.

Belated thanks for the insights into the scriptwriters' meeting, Chemenger. Large, expensive takeaway coffee for the intern too Brew

MikeUniformMike · 04/10/2020 21:20

Speaking of interns, what happened to Alex Friend?

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 05/10/2020 09:19

...

Remind us, MUM ...

EBearhug · 05/10/2020 09:23

He was the designer of the B @ Ambridge, wasn't he?

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 09:40

It was over a year ago, the previous intern, Alex, had left the new intern a note and had signed it A. Friend.

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 09:41

I have forgotten the name of the consultant who came up with the B@Ampridge.

MikeUniformMike · 05/10/2020 09:42

Ambridge even.
