Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think we should hear more about the Naughty Milkman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Roysnewshirt for the excellent title suggestion, which I tweaked a bit.

I wonder how much dialogue we're going to get in the coming weeks. They're back to normal recording, I believe, albeit socially distanced. Also, when will we get our Friday and Sunday episodes back? I know I'm not the only regular to miss TA a lot more on Friday than on Sunday. The Sunday episode is still an incomer, of course, having only been introduced some 20 years ago, of course. Grin

(My parents retired to a village and some features of Ambridge life are very familiar from their experience, the 'incomer' label being one.)

FFS, Alice is surely bright enough to know the reasons why you don't drink in pregnancy, and that Lilian is hardly a reliable expert on the topic.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/10/2020 08:56

Alice isn't going to make her mdwife appointment, is she?

And how long before ghastly Lillian lets slip the baby news?

I can see Alce having to have a termination for medical reasons at this rate.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 01/10/2020 08:59

I've been wondering if she'll make it to the end of the week ...

C8H10N4O2 · 01/10/2020 09:08

Thinking about all the talk of Jill's 90th - I suppose that means we will have several episodes of the Dopeys and GoldenPips whining on about each other.

Perhaps Lillian could share the Gin

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/10/2020 09:08

Ooh! Do you think they'll kill her off? We haven't had a good deading for years.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/10/2020 09:10

I meant Alice, not Jill nAlthough that would work too.

C8H10N4O2 · 01/10/2020 09:15

Its definitely a long time since we had a good deading. Alice as a suicide risk?

They generally only kill the older characters as they die IRL or elect to leave (like Betty).

EBearhug · 01/10/2020 09:16

I'm waiting for Kate to start giving advice on good parenting. Grin

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 01/10/2020 09:23

Grin I was hoping something significant might be coming - but there are only 12 and a half minutes left of this week, so maybe not.

Don't actually want the poor woman dedded - running away with Gavin would be infinitely more entertaining. There's enough doom in the world right now. And I wouldn't like the TASWAMA implications ...

Quinque · 01/10/2020 09:29

Are the script writers setting the scene for a storyline about foetal alcohol syndrome? Ambridge is unusually low on special needs children(the cancer rate is also vanishingly small.) If so it's not exactly subtle.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 09:34

Yes, but she doesn't particularly want a baby and she desperately wants a drink.

LillianGish · 01/10/2020 09:45

Looks as if the SWs have decided to go down the drinking in pregnancy route - having Alice turn for advice to the one person who likes a drink as much as she does.

That's exactly how I heard it, Mike. Oh dear. Sad

Even though my friends had babies, I was sort of scared of babies, and for years thought I would not be a good mother. It was when I turned 30 that I became broody. And had 2 DC in the latter years of my 30s.

Does FAS affect foetuses when they are tiny?

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 12:15

The alcohol probably does.

MoonJelly · 01/10/2020 13:10

I fear something dire will turn up on the first scan, so we'll have all the drama around whether to have a termination for medical reasons, Alice feeling guilty, pressure for her to get pregnant again, etc etc.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 14:17

I don't think they've done one of those, have they.
They discussed it before when Vickoi was pregnant, and Elizabeth had a termination as did A Net.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 01/10/2020 14:19

What was Lilian hinting at?

"If only she knew?" Something about a milkman? The only milkman I can think of is Jazzer.

Oh God!, I love Lilian's dirty raunchy cackle! I've really missed that this last few months.

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 01/10/2020 14:22

What's Jazzer been up to now?

I like to think of him keeping all the bored housewives of Ambridge happy and satisfied Shock

Madcats · 01/10/2020 14:30

With half of the UK in lockdown, and plenty struggling with their mental health, I don't think the SWs would risk a FAS baby.

Or an abortion. No deading either.

At the risk of muscling into Bore's territory I think the gift of the "bridle bag" is a sign that Alice is going to go riding, fall off her horse and miscarry (leaving just a few people in the village knowing what has happened).

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 14:47

I think that there will be a problem with the scan then there will be councilling (it is MN) and not with the parish councillor. A drunk Alish will go riding and fall off, and she will miscarry. They'll try to make her go to rehab but she'll say no no no.
Kristiffur will forge ahead with his windchime sideline and their marriage will fall apart.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 14:50

Meanwhile, Curesdy consoles Kristiffur leaving Philip to shoo horses, and that one night stand results in baby Kursediffur.

Alice runs away with Gavin, dries up and gets a proper job at an aerospace factory in Wales.

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 14:52

dries out not dries up. I've been traumatised by the different ways I've heard Llanelli been said in the last week.

(It really isn't Clanethy/Claneli//Clanethly/Thlanethly...)

TheSilveryPussycat · 01/10/2020 15:18

How is it pronounced?

MikeUniformMike · 01/10/2020 15:31

Llanelli
