is back (repeats before you all get very excited!). Sundays, Radio 4 at 7.15pm (after The Archers) from tomorrow night, 17th May. First episode is Abu Dhabi. I can't wait even though I've heard them all several times!

Same here Grin

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 16/05/2020 11:05

I know! Grin Keep forgetting to mention it on the Archers thread - you've reminded me.

chomalungma · 17/05/2020 22:13

John Finnemore was live tweeting about it as well this evening Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/05/2020 09:09

Yes, saw that, @chomalungma! I enjoyed that enormously. Marvellous setting up of the four central characters and the setting for the series. I was amazed to read, following a Twitter link, that it nearly didn't get made at all as the R4 controller at the time took a lot of convincing. 12 years since it was first broadcast! Shock

chomalungma · 18/05/2020 10:28

It's quite interesting to think that this was made before Benedict Bumberbatch was a big household name.

I remember hearing this when it first came out back in 2008. I used to have to stop the car and listen as I was just giggling away.

chomalungma · 18/05/2020 10:29

I liked the way he continued to record the series. Apparently, requests for tickets for the final recording were stratospheric. I didn't realise that it nearly didn't get made at all Gasp0de. I love Stephanie Cole and Roger Alam's performances too.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/05/2020 11:19

Yes, it's a perfect cast. I applied for tickets for the final recording and was of course unsuccessful. I wish I'd thought of doing it for an earlier series.

chomalungma · 18/05/2020 11:37

Have people read his blog?

There's loads of artwork and discussions about how he wrote each show.

The character development is fantastic. How they bounce off each other, how Martin grows in confidence etc

Best comedy ever

Ooh wonderful. One of my biggest failures as a parent is that I can't get my children to listen to Cabin Pressure.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 18/05/2020 17:04

I love the episode where they acknowledge Sherlock with Martin's really clumsy version of 'once you have eliminated the possible...' - I think it is a Birling Day one. DS2, 11, who knows them by heart, says Paris.

"I know! But the thing is, we’ve taken away all the things that can possibly have happened, so I suppose the only thing that’s left, even though it seems really weird, must be the thing that did happen, in fact."

DS just got into it. Eventually. It took time but then it finally happened - so we binged it.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 18/05/2020 18:41

Some of you might be able to place my user name.

My poor child has been brought up by the rule you are always playing yellow car - he has asked to be put up for adoption so he can not play.

So far he has heard bit of bobs of CP and when we are traveling long distance in the car again (my parents are at the opposite end of the country to us so we plough up and down the A1 a couple of times a year) I will treat him to the full works.

I was living overseas when it first came out, but caught the odd episode on radio 4 extra and wanted to hear more, so for my birthday I requested the complete box set and the promise that my family would indulge me by listening to it on long car journeys. They complained, of course, but it didn't take long to get them hooked Smile

JudyCoolibar · 20/05/2020 13:39

I'd forgotten that so many of my favourite bits turn up in the very first episode - surprising rice; It's NOT cuddly, you have open wounds; Carolyn coming after Martin with knives; and particularly "I will count to one. One!" I now use that last one on my children, it works a treat.

Iwantacampervan · 02/07/2020 07:51

Series 2 will be on from Sunday - I've tried to listen live and follow John Finnemore on Twitter.

Best comedy ever. Our tables at our wedding were named after our favourites episodes.

I can’t listen to them in bed as they keep me awake laughing, even though I’ve heard them all a million times.

TakeMeToYourLiar · 02/07/2020 08:03

Just so good!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/07/2020 08:48

7.15pm, Radio 4, Sunday 5/7. I see we're going straight to Helsinki. I can't remember why, but Gdansk wasn't broadcast in order. IIRC, Helsinki is the glorious episode where Alison Steadman turns up as Carolyn's sister, with a loathsome son in tow.

And of course, that means that 12/7 will be Ipswich, which is one of my absolute favourites. Grin

I can remember when I finally convinced my DH to listen to it. He downloaded the first series and listened to it while we were on an Easyjet flight to Cyprus!!

He had sat across the aisle from me as I was sitting with DCs. Watching him as he listened and tried not to guffaw out loud was almost as good as listening to it myself!!!

TakeMeToYourLiar · 03/07/2020 09:52

@gaspode - they did Helsinki first in S2 because they thought they were more likely to get reviews for an episode with the big name of Alison Steadman

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/07/2020 10:47

Thanks, @TakeMeToYourLiar! I love JF's live tweets. I expect he'll cover that this week.
