Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to share a camomile tea with Kate, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish for the excellent Bert Fry tribute title!

I don't think this thread will get us to Easter, but we should be well into Lent before we need a new title. I wonder if St Stephen's will have a new oh-so-interesting Lent initiative this year. When did we last hear from Alan?

They don't have gas pipes in villages

They do in some villages

I was laughing to myself in that I read through the whole fantasy, and it wasn't until I read "gas pipes" that I thought "well, that's not very likely, is it?"

Motoko · 09/03/2020 12:22

There's gas in our village, it just doesn't come up as far as us.

LizziesTwin · 09/03/2020 12:27

No gas or mains water/drains for us.

TheMadGardener · 09/03/2020 12:34

The village where I grew up, and the next village, didn't have mains gas when I was growing up but they do now.

TheMadGardener · 09/03/2020 12:35

I do hope Lynda isn't dedded but I have a bad feeling... Lilian may change the pub name back in a fit of guilt.

DoctorTwo · 09/03/2020 13:11

Mains gas in a small village?

Propane in the membrane Love a bit of that hippity hop rapping music.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/03/2020 13:34

Fine work, all! I may have to listen again. That's a cracking theory about Ed, as long as he survives.

We did the Hellmouth on a previous occasion didn’t we?

Otherwise ...

Herocomplex · 09/03/2020 14:18

Oh my god, just heard it!

LillianGish · 09/03/2020 14:45

Have listened again and it does sound more like explosion this time with alarms triggered in the background.

R4 · 09/03/2020 14:58

Lynda was 'apologising' to Freddie but distracted by the noise from the workman (note: man, not men). It was a metallic, clankety noise that Lynda said was a strange sound from someone supposedly taking up a floor. She told Freddie to 'wait there' while she investigated.
We then cut to Em and Tracy having a conversation outside. There was a ka-boom, gas-explosion sort of noise and lots of screaming, presumably from the GG guests who were milling around the reception waiting for their minibus.

LillianGish · 09/03/2020 15:00

Just had a thought - is it possible that Freddie could have been blown up thus throwing the inheritance of LL into disarray with CMR rubbing his hands together only for it to bypass Lily and go to some random Pargetter male relative.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/03/2020 15:03

I don't think the editorial team would do that to Elizabeth. Have him hospitalised, possibly, but not dead.

R4 · 09/03/2020 15:25

Just had a thought - is it possible that Freddie could have been blown up
I've had an even better thought - is it possible that Batasha was in there spending her anniversary/birthday voucher?
Grin

UnholyStramash · 09/03/2020 15:34

Methane gas explosion?

UnholyStramash · 09/03/2020 15:36

No @R4. That’s not possible because she won’t go to spend her voucher till the cake‘s finished. Them‘s the rules. That I just made up.

UnholyStramash · 09/03/2020 15:42

Because I don’t have a life I listened again - I think one of the squawks after the big bang was from Lynda. That suggests she’s not been deaded.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/03/2020 15:45

🔮 predicts:
Cathy - dedded
Lynda - severely injured, touch and go, eventually wheelchaired
Gav - injured, recovers
Freddy - injured + possibly hero
Ed - hero

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/03/2020 15:47

Oh, and Search and Rescue llamas brought in to locate Lynda in the rubble.

TherapistInATabard · 09/03/2020 15:56

As much as I love the idea (for dramatic porpoises only obviously) I'm not sure Gav would have got Ed in to do the work. For one thing he wouldn't 'do him a favour' and for another did he even know Ed had asked about work?

Search and Rescue llamas Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/03/2020 15:57

Ed will be one of the first at the scene

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/03/2020 15:58

(The 🔮 was having a little joke about the llamas)

SurpriseSparDay · 09/03/2020 16:01

If only we were at the end of this thread. I’m fancying:

BOOM! The aftermath. Archers thread #116

as a thread title ...

Nonnymum · 09/03/2020 16:05

What WAS that racket, though? Did the entire battery of kitchen equipment self-destruct and explode all over Grey Gables*
I couldn't work out what had happened either. It sounded like something collapsed. And as though anyone inside would be injured or killed. At least those on the ground floor. Freddie, Linda and Gavin must be at risk I would say

woodencoffeetable · 09/03/2020 16:15

What WAS that racket, though?

the archive shelf collapsing?
