Archers thread #115: Johnny's in the gym, Josh is in a jam, Rex is riled, Kate's with child - discuss The Archers here

Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to share a camomile tea with Kate, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish for the excellent Bert Fry tribute title!

I don't think this thread will get us to Easter, but we should be well into Lent before we need a new title. I wonder if St Stephen's will have a new oh-so-interesting Lent initiative this year. When did we last hear from Alan?

I never listen live... but tonight I did and aaaargh!!

(I shall now do an “it’s all my fault” routine a la Shula...)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/03/2020 19:23

Mains gas in a small village? I suppose there might be. Under the floor of the kitchen? Seems improbable, but then so does a soil-pipe under a kitchen that caters for a hospitality business.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2020 19:26

The floor will have fallen into the sinkhole/old forgotten mine shaft and the whole edifice will have crashed down on top of Lynda!

No point in having sent her there otherwise

R4 · 08/03/2020 19:30

So much for Phirsty's long weekend.
Gavin will be (at the least) unfit for work, thereby putting pressure on Philip.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/03/2020 19:31

Gave can be dispensed with. Lynda can't.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/03/2020 19:33

Gav, even. I am in great perturbation of mind.

SurpriseSparDay · 08/03/2020 19:39

I’m listening a second time to establish who was with Lynda. All they said was that Gavin was ‘overseeing’. And that there was a single workman on site.

Gavin might have been ‘overseeing’ from under his duvet at Philip & Kirsty’s house. Or he might have buggered off somewhere else entirely. IIRC he was resentful at being left in charge of the work, wasn’t he?

On the other hand - it could be him. Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/03/2020 19:40

Yes, would be a handy way to get rid of useless Gavin, but NOT LYNDA!

MysticBore™️ and the 🔮 predict:
This will be why they introduced Gavin in the first place, he's served his purpose now. Ed will end up working for Philip, thereby becoming solvent and reconciling with Emmur, now that he can get a mortgage (on Joy's house, as she will have also served her purpose).

They are unclear on the fate of Lynda.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/03/2020 19:47

Kathy could be a goner. I just read on Twitter that Hedli Niklaus recently said on Facebook that she wished Kathy would be written out properly.

Freddie will survive. After losing Nigel LL has surely suffered enough.

SurpriseSparDay · 08/03/2020 19:49

Ooh, Kathy too?!

TherapistInATabard · 08/03/2020 19:49

Oh my Christ!

TherapistInATabard · 08/03/2020 19:53

Lynda’s comment was interesting ‘he’s only supposed to be digging the floor up, why is he.......’. I wonder what those clanging noises were.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/03/2020 20:04

Pure speculation on my part about Kathy, but it would be an opportunity to send her on her way. If GG survives, Roy could take over as manager.

I wonder where Oliver was. Sad

I was expecting 'He's only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!' there, Therapist ...

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/03/2020 20:10

Tracy was outside; Lynda was sticking her nose into thestaff-room and then the kitchen; who was on reception?

TherapistInATabard · 08/03/2020 20:18

She called someone over to sit on reception for a minute didn’t she? Can’t remember the name. If Lynda is dedded Freddie will feel guilty. If Gav is dedded Philip and Kirsty will feel guilty. That’s going to get very boring very quickly #heartlesswitch

BeardieWeirdie · 08/03/2020 20:20

My husband has this particularly irritating habit of shouting “Nigellllllll!” whenever TA has a dramatic moment. I don’t think he takes it as seriously as we’re meant to.

theThreeofWeevils · 08/03/2020 20:49

It seems almost to much to hope for that Lynda does turn out to be Late,, but if she is, then hurrah: it's not before time. Anyone could have taken an axe to her at any moment.

But I have a horrible feeling that this is going to precipitate a reconciliation between Ed 'n' Emma, because of how narrowly she missed being blown up/falling down the hole/generally smithereened.

In which case, puking may well occur.

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/03/2020 21:09

And most importantly, what kind of cake did Tom bake for Natasha? Chocolate. He won't have iced it, and it's only chocolate or icing that cause people to lose control.

Mains gas in a small village? Very improbable, but that won't have stopped the SWs if it was decided that an explosion was required. And that was most definitely an explosion, not a crash of falling equipment or roof. I suppose the clanging sounds were meant to suggest that Gav was bashing his way through a pipe under the floor.

who was on reception? Ginny.

I think if Lynda is dedded I might actually stop listening.

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/03/2020 21:09

Damn! There's a family celebration tomorrow night, so I can't listen.

StationView · 08/03/2020 21:50

Was there Doom Music?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 08/03/2020 21:57

I didn't notice it, @StationView, which doesn't mean anything as my attention/comprehension is limited these days. I thought that for big disasters the Doom Music had been replaced by silence in the recent past, though, or am I just making that up?

Motoko · 08/03/2020 22:15

How small is Ambridge? There's gas in the village here, and the next one, which is much smaller than our village.

I predicted a gas explosion on the spoilers thread. It certainly sounded like one. I hope Lynda's not deaded though. As much as she exasperates me, I've grown rather fond of her.

Avocadohips · 08/03/2020 22:17

Crikey!
