Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like Alf to stay around, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @DoctorTwo for the thread title! I was strongly tempted by R4's suggestion of Wildlife on Four: Jonneh is wild at Lily, Phoebe rewilds by Occam, Joy is in the wilderness and David is bewildered by a marriage proposal. Grin

So we did make it past Joe's funeral at last. Are we heading for a Christmas octogenarian wedding now?

“So I’m on the look out for period furniture ..”

Nope. Editor/Director (Hmm) and SW were all on drugs when they shoved that in.

MissBarbary · 29/11/2019 14:45

You could strain the vegetables for Brookfield Christmas lunch for the entire extended family through the plot holes in last night's episode.

Taswama · 29/11/2019 14:57

A very belated BOOP (possibly the only one on this thread?!) for the very real fear in Helen’s voice when Henry went missing in the department store.

Motoko · 29/11/2019 15:26

Yes, she played that well, but he's 9 isn't he? I was getting buses on my own (with friends) and going to Croydon or the pictures when I was 9/10. It seems he's a lot younger than he is, not helped by him having the voice of a 3 year old until just recently.

I know Helen always worries that Rob's going to come and steal the children away, but surely Henry's old enough to know not to go off with him? How old is Jack meant to be now, 3, 4? He never speaks.

TeenPlusTwenties · 29/11/2019 15:47

I think Helen's worries are fair and real.

Even if Henry 'knows' not to go off with Rob, Rob could pick him up or manipulate him.
Plus Henry has been through a lot, it is not unlikely he could be emotionally younger than other children the same age.
My DD's are adopted. At that age DD1 was a real mixture. In some ways she was 'old' because of what she had been through, and in other ways she was 'young' because of insecurities and lack of stable roots.

MissBarbary · 29/11/2019 19:12

Henry was born on 2 January 2011 so coming up 10 but it's understandable that he will seem younger. Even setting aside custardgate I see Helen as a mother who would keep a 10 year old on a short lease.

MissBarbary · 29/11/2019 19:15

Jack was born 21 May 2016
Rosie Ruth 23 July 2018

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/11/2019 19:40

A reminder that, some time ago, MysticBore™️ and the 🔮 were of the opinion that Ollie and Tracey are destined for each other.

Tonight this became even more apparent.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/11/2019 19:41

See also Lee and Hellin.

And Lizard and CMR.

SurpriseSparDay · 29/11/2019 19:48

A reminder that as regards Trolly the 🔮 may not have been fastest off the blocks ...

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 29/11/2019 19:59

Rex and Phoebe richly deserved that Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/11/2019 20:04

The 🔮 is giving the side-eye to Surprise

I've thrown a black velvet cloth over it and popped it in a cupboard for now, just to be on the safe side.

BertrandRussell · 29/11/2019 20:10

Oh, ffs- what a hugely entertaining episode that was! The plates! Laugh? I thought I’d never start!

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 20:37

It was on but I didn't hear it.

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 20:38

We don't get many portmanteaux. Trex and Trolley are the only two I can think of.

MissBarbary · 29/11/2019 20:40

Was it only yesterday that we said "That was the worst episode since, well the last episode we decreed was the worst episode ever."

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/11/2019 20:43

Frilly

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 30/11/2019 07:50

Not sure if I dreamt it, but didn't someone (on here) once call Justin and Lilian, 'Julian'?

chemenger · 30/11/2019 08:48

Now they have really hit rock bottom. Never, since the dawn of the mashie niblick, have two people shared a bay in a golf driving range. It just does not happen. I am outraged by the lack of authenticity. Also they were clearly nowhere near a driving range because it was too quiet; where was the noise of other people hitting golf balls? Or swearing at mishit balls (that might just be me).
I have blanked the entire taverna scene from my mind as too awful to contemplate. However the business deal being offered by BL is entirely plausible (a word not often seen here) and really the only kind of deal that will see them get their plan put into action. What did they think BL would do?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 30/11/2019 11:38

Why, when he wants to discuss something he wants kept private, does Justin seem to have a habit of arranging to meet at the Bull?

I mean, seriously, who goes to the local pub for a private discussion of something they want people not to know about, and then talks about a confidential deal in a clear and audible voice?

If I had been in the Bull I would certainly have noticed Phoebe and Rex getting all excited and emotional, and listened in to see what they were so happy about.

HeronLanyon · 30/11/2019 11:46

askingquestions very good point, particularly as before recent name change he used to be Captain Hastings - assisting HPoirot (just listened to bbc Agatha Christie collection). You would have thought he would have picked up basic skills from the master!

MikeUniformMike · 30/11/2019 13:27

@BoreOfWhabylon, of course!

MissBarbary · 30/11/2019 13:32

However the business deal being offered by BL is entirely plausible (a word not often seen here) and really the only kind of deal that will see them get their plan put into action

Do they have any idea whatsoever of what they will be doing which is going to generate any profit for BL to take 75% of?

chemenger · 30/11/2019 13:56

I think they are going to raise low intensity grazing animals of a typically cage nature. Rewilded land uses controlled grazing to encourage the right mix of vegetation, I think. Then the meat produced is high welfare, premium priced.

chemenger · 01/12/2019 09:35

Not cage nature, vague nature. My phone chooses the word most likely to reverse my meaning in any situation.
